FINALLY I have been able to get the Dragon Scale or veining effect in my resin. I first saw this on a video by Suzanna Dancks who owns Le Rez Expressions and I'll link her channel here:
/ @lerezexpressions
It took me awhile to work it out and what I have learned is the techniqued works best for me using a resin with a shorter pot life (the working time you have once you mix the resin before it begins to set or cure). The shorter working time helps trap the heavier pigment powders as they fall thru the lighter transparent colours creating the scale effect. The other thing I found is you need only about 1/2 as much of the opaque pigment powders in resin to the first main transparent colour or the gold, in particular, will take over.
While I could get the effect using my ArtiSue pigment powders, that particular brand is no longer available so in todays video Im using Le Rez Expressions Pigment powders. That way if anyone wants to give this a go you will have a reference to a brand that's available and works. Alcohol inks, epoxy pigment pastes and epoxy pigment tints all seem to work. With the epoxy pastes I used I only use the bare minimum on my stir stick to ensure they are transparent. The metallic pastes will def end up opaque if you use too much.

LOL I dont think so Suzanna but OMG thanks for the comment and encouragement MWAH
Thanks❤ Did you ever see the Pouring your heart out channel? How carefully she applies TIME and TEMPERATURE for each layer? That shows how to reach an excellent result❤
Hi Marina. There are many ways to achieve the dragon scale technique. When I try a technique I try to find my own way that works for my hot humid conditions....which is fun! I followed Le REz Expressions for the inspiration to start with
Which video are you referring to? I've tried a number of times her technique and I cant seem to get it down, I'd love to learn more about it.
@@AllyshaSampson Are you asking about the Le Rez video? If so the one I watched was this one ruclips.net/video/ELjnpe7rKXA/видео.html.I still needed to play with it to get it to work for me as you will need to do as well. I have given some tips above in my description box as well
@@AnnetteInOz I was actually referring to the other comment. However, I just wanted to say a massive thank you. Because of your video - tips and tricks, I was able to genuinely some what achieve this technique. Mucho love!
@@AllyshaSampson OOOHHH LOL....its just all replies come to me haha. I dont watch JUlies channel much as Im in a hot humid area and resin acts differently for me so I have no idea re that answer anyway . Thanks hun x
love these ..Thanks
I really like them all, great video and I'm inspired to do some myself ❤
aw thank you x
I've just subscribed to your channel. I like how these turned out. As soon as I'm able I'll try these new and different pours. For now I'll enjoy watching everyone else's. Maybe I'll learn enough and try to not forget everything. Lol
Aw thankyou for subbing and the comment. I hope you do try 😜
@@AnnetteInOz I sure will.
Beautiful, stunning colours! 😊
Aw thanks so much Jane x
Wow, Annette, they are gorgeous, especially the two dark ones. It seems practice makes perfect with resin, so you are inspiring me to have a go, but not just yet as hubby is champing on the bit for his tucker - I have been watching too many of your videos instead of making lunch. Back to your work, though, thanks for putting your videos to air and showing us how to do it.
Thanks Julie....lol its easy to get distracted by art for me too. I find with our wet tropical weather we have to adjust our environment and sometimes things that work easily for others down South need some tweeking for us here to work!!
