The old one is definitely better because it's more grounded and true to life than the 2020 version; they made the creepy old man into some sort of supernatural tech evil spirit lmao
yeah I think it took it a little too far and subtlety would probably work better for this kinda thing, but the ending is really creepy thats really well done
I think the man is the same as the old version, but since I believe the new one is a continued version of the old one, as since the man supposedly knows you, he has the ability to create supernatural inventions, like Hacking into people's Webcam, and becoming one with that person to kill them. And he can do so much more than that. But that's my theory

I feel like the reason the 2011 version one was creepier was because A) we didn't know as much as we do know about the internet so the idea of "standard creepy horror stalker finds you online" had a slight realness to it. And B) agency. For the first one you innocently clicked a button and YOU WERE FUCKED. For the 2020 one you have to look for a famous webiste, pay 3 dollars, and stay for a 3 minute call after 2 warning calls in the way of seeing 2 people straight up get murdered lmao
` "standard creepy horror stalker finds you online" had a slight realness to it. ` lol just give them some credit where it due, it was more than 'slightly' it was ahead of it time, one of those game that break the 4th wall and successfully expands the play area into real life, by including you into the game. And the fact that it was on the most popular social media site, Facebook, made it great, because nobody would expect to see this kind of horror on Facebook games. which is why it was shortly removed.

I remember in 2011 when my mom was sent this. She had small a digital marketing office and one of their developers tried to creep her out, but it didn't really work cause my mom logged her private facebook, which she only used to shitpost and had her location set up as "Rivendell, Middle-Earth" That video section is definitely creepy as fuck if you have personal pictures with your family. But it's a different story when dude is hunching over cat videos, rage comics and pics of Marge Sympson with my mom's face poorly photoshopped on her. I hope he had fun in Rivendell though!

0:53 Something you didn't notice is that, if you look very closely, you can see the man holding a razor blade as he walks out of the car. In the logo, there's a razor symbol inside of the lollipop which becomes more noticeable at the end when it changes to orange, saying that you're next while using your full name.

Fun Fact the guy that played the antagonist in this game also appeared on 1000 Ways To Die 3 times. First Time: Season 1, Episode 8: The Good The Bad And The Dead. Segment: #47 Re-Coiled What Happened: He played a paranoid survivalist named Jake who stopped to take a leak and set his gun down. A snake comes by and wraps itself around the butt of the gun. When Jake was done he picked it up and the snake squeezed the trigger which caused him to get shot in the heart, killing him. Second Time: Season 2, Episode 4: Bringing In The Dead. Segment: #177 Jack 'n Croaked What Happened: He played a man named Jedidiah who was the assistant for the famous whiskey distiller, Jack Daniels (He's named Jasper in this segment). Anyways, After testing batch after batch, Jack got drunk and tried accessing his safe to get his recipe but after forgetting the combination, he kicked it until his toe bashed open, a few weeks later got sepsis and died but not before getting the taste of his best batch of whiskey. Jed was his caretaker in his final days. Third Time: Season 4, Episode 1: The One About Dumb People Dying Segment: #274: Squirreled Away What Happened: He played a taxidermist named Norman who ate the animals that he stuffed. One day he killed a squirrel and ate it (on the rare side). Little did he know that the squirrel he ate was infected with rabies and as a result he got rabies himself and died from the virus.
Oh man this gave me some flashbacks. When I saw this I was studying about how to read data from facebook and integrate it into a flash game. I figured this game was a flash website and it inserted the info on a premade graphics inside flash to make it look real. Pretty interesting stuff back in the day.
Way back on 2011 my facebook account is just full of "non me" photos. I have photos of dogs, mountain everest and anime. And during the cutscene it made me laugh lol.
Let me guess, you had a profile picture of something like a tree, so it ends up making it look like this guy drove 500 miles just to kill one specific tree or dog?
I did try this for fun, but it only made me go into a numb, depression meltdown. All of the photos the application showed were from PC video games & selfies I took alone. I didn't have any friends at that point in time & was stuck at home because I'm too afraid to drive. Nothing has changed for me socially to this day. I'm still alone all day, everyday. It didn't scare me. It said "Nobody loves you & you're going to die alone."
I have a magnificient business idea: 1. Make a haunted-house like experience, where you are stalked by an internet being. 2. Tell people it's some sort of a social media data awarness thing 3. Charge 3 dollars for entry 4. Wait until some rich guy comes in 5. Steal all his money, rob his house, kidnapp his dog, board on the first plane to Panama, erase the game and never give a sign of life again 6. Profit

Meanwhile the never version feels like a weird ARG that doesn't quite emphasize the original message as well while using somewhat cheap jumpscare tricks to gain a reaction, not to mention the money you need to pay too.
