Great video guys! I have recently done a rally school in Australia. I had done some drift and track days previously and it's definately correct to say rally is a different beast. Such a rush and so different from a track, 80km/h on dirt surrounded by trees feels much, much faster than 200km/h + on tarmac!! What a rush..... Shit, now I wanna rally.....
@Mikelaren101 We didn't bring the raptor this time. We had a Dodge Ram 3500 Dually because we had much more gear and people than would fit in the raptor.
@k2them not really, they are just stock exhausts mostly. A louder car there won't really help much, and it's hard to mic the exhausts on the rally stage because of all the gravel and dirt ruining the sound.
@Blogullupului we had 3 mounted cameras fail on us during this shoot. One didn't like the cold weather, another on the pedals just recorded darkness, and one flew off the car and got run over. We're a bit disappointed with the shots as well, but when cameras fail like that there's not much you can do.
Another great episode. Matt rule of thumb is look where you want the car to go 3 turns ahead and you will get there with the best line naturally. That's what it looks nlike the instructor was telling you
@GRBphotos if you saw their budgets ($1,000,000 per episode) compared to ours (wont be exact but it's in the low-four digits, not 9 digits), and you do the math, you realize that the kind of entertainment we provide versus the amount of money we have to spend is pretty impressive compared to a government-owned television show.
@nbwinn lol, going to the UK is most certainly out of the budget, so if you want to see that kind of stuff you're going to have to talk to Chris Harris.
@gainusha8g I only went into first twice, ran most of the race in second, whereas bucky went into third on two occasions and first on three occasions, so yea he shifted much more than me.
For Matt and the rest of the crew who made this incredible channel I'm subscribing. I've waited a long time for this type of content and you guys are delivering it. Matt you mate, ROCK!. Parentte, Harris, Deangelis, JF, and the rest also bring their own to it. It could be better without Alex Roy, which I'm not a fan....but for the rest of you guys Good Luck and hope you can keep the channel alive. DRIVE FTW!
I'm surprised at how quiet the cars are. I kept waiting for the (fitting) music to drop out and the throaty roar of the Subaru to whisk me away. They must have some heavy noise restrictions to be able to operate out there.
So taking into consideration Matt's weight disadvantage, he won, or at the very least tied. They weigh car and driver, not just car. Other dude should have had ballast equalling weight difference which is probably at least 150 pounds! That makes a huge difference.
Which one of these drive shows is supposed to be most closely tied to Jalopnik? I remember them teasing their show more than a week ago as "coming next week," yet I don't think that has happened. Am I just misunderstanding something?
my dad brought us kids a cheap $300 car and we just drove it around a paddock for a while :P was good cheap fun.. and yeah learnt manual without killing hits daily driver all in all practice :)
LEARNING rally driving...if you have a balanced car as I do... you can practice this even on fast street driving...for total sideways we need an offroad or deep snow.and then there is the danger of flipping over while sliding sideways into a rock... I did slides on solo races held on parking lots and the smaller cars did better than the Corvette..much better
Honestly, Matt's run looked cleaner. Maybe he wasn't going as hard as Bucky. It seemed like Bucky was really pushing it. Nevertheless, great run on both parts.
@TheSmokingTire Well I suppose they got famous due to their talent in other areas and it's amazing how quick they convert to rally cross etc, just a shame it is so money orientated. But thats what makes it a challenge. Was thinking of writing to Drive actually, I know Alex (big Polizei fan), you should do some formula ford coverage here in the UK, if its in the budget, you'd love it! Did my first International last November at Silverstone plenty of Americans from Skip Barber, you could have a go
Lol, Matt..... Not bad for someone who is not a pro. its funny how he looks pro with the gear and everything. and bucky looks like he is going skateboarding.
TUNED is by a long shot my favorite segment of the FastLaneDaily franchise.

@dakoffran the Team O'Neil school is in New Hampshire, but they only use FWD cars. If you want AWD you have to go to Dirtfish.
@k2them not really, they are just stock exhausts mostly. A louder car there won't really help much, and it's hard to mic the exhausts on the rally stage because of all the gravel and dirt ruining the sound.
Great stuff Matt, like others said, this is hands down my most favorite segment on the Drive channel.
Thanks Matt, another awesome thing to add to my list of things to do before I die.

@bhegg i bogged really bad at the handbrake turn. If I had executed it properly, it would have been only a tenth or two's difference.
tuned is so rad, its my favorite drive segment by far just good o'l car guy humor and content
@flapecake we were driving 2007 model year cars, and they had some 2008 and 2009 hatchback STI's there as well.
Awesome.. well produced, great subject matter, intelligent interviews and quality content.
@mpgomatic he's actually got a full ride from Subaru. He's running Travis's old car.
@barrinout I could have always just not posted the video if I was embarrassed by it. I think getting within 1% of Bucky was a pretty good show though.
That was great. More heads up races sir.
Another great episode. Matt rule of thumb is look where you want the car to go 3 turns ahead and you will get there with the best line naturally. That's what it looks nlike the instructor was telling you
I did the 3 day event at Dirtfish this past summer this is so cool to see!
@mpgomatic looking that way, yeah.
great vid! Would have been cool to see you both race through the old mill!
This was good, some great shots of the cars in there. I would I have liked to see more of the instruction and the techniques they teach though.

I used to live in Snoqualmie town proper. On Newton Street. I would walk down in the summer and go swimming in the falls. SO cold!
By far best episode of Drive yet so glad i sub'ed
I literally liked this video as soon as it started to get it out of the way
Very respectable from Matt, would like to see them race again when he's had the same number of hours behind as rally car as Bucky!
@nbwinn if you want to get into racing, it REALLY helps to be famous first.
@gainusha8g I only went into first twice, ran most of the race in second, whereas bucky went into third on two occasions and first on three occasions, so yea he shifted much more than me.

@sarenasdaddy good spot, it is.
Great video...if you haven't checked out dirtfish, needs to be on your bucket list!
AMAZING segment. I love you guys!!
Cool stuff, Matt. DirtFish is an awesome spot. Who's Bucky driving for in GRC?
@TheSmokingTire Very cool ... three car team this year? Higgins, Mirra and Lasek?
@mrdragancelan I totally agree, Matt's car control and hand position on the wheel was alot smoother but I guess the clock dosn't lie!!
Winston is sick...he was my instructor for some of the time. He was one of my favorite teachers.
@n1ght28 They're Group N cars, the regulations keep them pretty close to stock with very light powertrain modifications.
I get to go there in March so excited!!!
Matt too much on the brake buddy. Great show I won't be getting cable TV if FLD and DRIVE TV continues at this pace. Locked in.
Another great vidéo, Matt, thanks !
awesome, need more of these videos
The margin was actually closer than expected! That's only about 1% slower than the skater dude. Good job, Matt.
Looks like a lotta fun!! Not sure if they were driving the same car but did Bucky's car seem to have a bit more power??
I'm surprised at how quiet the cars are. I kept waiting for the (fitting) music to drop out and the throaty roar of the Subaru to whisk me away. They must have some heavy noise restrictions to be able to operate out there.
I used you live in Seattle. Now I have motivation to move back!
The only reason I'm not going to complain about the eerie dramatic music this time is the Twin Peaks relation.
Looks awesome...I will go there!!
Good stuff, Matt.
Cmon Matt! Strong showing but I want to see a win next time!
Great episode
Great video Matt!
Anyone know what the first song is, or is it an original piece?
Subaru! They haven't replaced a clutch yet! Bulletproof drivetrain in the sti.
@gillanjag we drove the same car.
keep it up matt, you got some support
Great video!
So taking into consideration Matt's weight disadvantage, he won, or at the very least tied. They weigh car and driver, not just car. Other dude should have had ballast equalling weight difference which is probably at least 150 pounds! That makes a huge difference.
LONGER VIDEOS! I NEED MORE!
When I think rally anything I think of Subaru first.
That was so... soothing.
VERY GOOD AGAIN MATT!!!
great episode.

i like the music at the end,any info on it?
my dad brought us kids a cheap $300 car and we just drove it around a paddock for a while :P
was good cheap fun.. and yeah learnt manual without killing hits daily driver
all in all practice :)
this was so awesome, i can't even believe how good drive has been (except for shakedown because i don't really care about racing)
What model Impreza were they racing? Because that looks more '98 than '08, although I'd guess it's an '04 or '05.

i love tuned
why was matt holding both hands on the wheel more often? i never saw him shift
"I'll leave that up to him what he wants to lose." LOL that was awesome.
I was actually thinking about doing the same thing. thanks a lot!!
@flapecake Thats the 'Hawk eye', 05'-07' model.
Honestly, Matt's run looked cleaner. Maybe he wasn't going as hard as Bucky. It seemed like Bucky was really pushing it. Nevertheless, great run on both parts.
name of song at the end sounds really cool
@kanundrum what about blind corners?
You got subaru n12 and n14 nice
Does he use handbrake to drift?
cool stuff !
I see you've fixed the beard.
Awesome!
@TheSmokingTire Well I suppose they got famous due to their talent in other areas and it's amazing how quick they convert to rally cross etc, just a shame it is so money orientated. See the exhaust on these cars? Man they have them choked down!
good job guys nice vid
Lol, Matt..... Not bad for someone who is not a pro.
its funny how he looks pro with the gear and everything. and bucky looks like he is going skateboarding.
I looooooooooooove Subaru!!
whats the song in the credits?
Is this where pastrana and menzies did their video of the Dart team?
Id say so since subaru works with dirtfish to train drivers sometimes. At least pastrana id bet.
WTF?!?! I live 30 minutes from Snoqualmie and never heard of this place!!!
I LOVE YOU MATT
It's OK Matt, my feet are cold and wet too!
so close Matt!
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know I was done speaking but you go ahead.
whats that song at the end?
Forest Duplessis - now there's a name you'd only find in the Pacific NW.
If i was matt, i would take my raptor out for a spin on that course, see how it compares to the rally car :P
What wheels are on those Subarus?
OZ. Supperlaggers RS
Is that subie gal@ 9:02 ?
BUCK YEAH!
matt wearing the costco hiking socks..just like me up here in canada all winter.
WTF matt, your in Cali.
+TheZigZagg He was in Washington State in that episode though... Close to Canada
+M Astley close to Canada relatively. like almost 200 miles south.
Can you help a guy like me who is not yet comfortable driving a stick shift?
