I dont think the SWU starters are scams because you can get the exclusive cards through weekly OP packs. Also, fantastic product to get people into the game, or even just to have as a "board game" version of a tcg. I do hope the JTL decks offer more value though since they will span multiple sets and are supposed to be more competitive. Would love to see a legendary card show up in some of these moving forward. Hoping to get a card like Triple dark raid come in the boba deck which would be great value. Amazing that they also come with a booster pack and again, this should continue going forward. Perfect entry to the game, especially for kids.

Though I agree with you mostly on your points, the price increase in this set is crazy especially given that they’ve separated them out so you’ll still need to buy both and at over £50 for a one vs one board game experience, it’s a bit of a gamble and high cost if peope don’t like it. For £20 more, you can have over 150 more cards, a lot more leaders and pretty much guaranteed R and L cards.
Starter decks shouldn’t be more than £20-£30 to a playable set in my opinion as that’s an easier pill to swallow to test

@oldboysnewtoys oh, I'm only paying $26.95 CAD each. Boxes are $119.95 CAD each here. So feels like a value for me personally where I shop.
Additionally, they did say in an interview that these decks can compete at a local compared to past starters. So I expect them to have a power level of a 6/10 compared to a 3/10
Yeah I think the crazy UK prices do not help at all over here at all. And the stores definitely seem to be trying to maximise gains direct from players. Glad you’re enjoying it. Keep playing, as it’s a great game
I bought mine at local shop for 25 euros, and I played with them and I had fun, did not feel that I have wasted my money on it, they were cool. I am overall very happy with FFG handling the game so far 😊
That’s good to hear and some pretty nice, low prices. It’s started to feel like we’re being ripped off in the UK
I've been on the fence on buying the Mando starter as that's probably the only thing Star Wars I still love and was thinking if it can be a tabletop version of the game (I can't get into another TCG, that's just not happening). This has somehow lead me to your video. Valid points or at least sounds like it but I have to say it's unfair comparing a TCG to a board game (Unmatched). A TCG wants you to keep spending on the same product over and over while a board game wants to sell you its contents ones and in the case of Unmatched probably wants to keep you hooked with interesting expansions so you keep expanding what you already own and love. Differetnt actic. Of course Unmatched is gonna be the better value. A TCG won't keep its proficts if it just gives you the good stuff, while Unmatched is literally designed to straight up give you the good stuff and on a good price.
With that said guys, please buy and play Unmatched, it's awesome and it needs to be kept alive!
Hi there. Thanks for watching and commenting. I get what you’re saying about the different between TCG’s and board game but the direct costs compared are pretty crazy side by side. Especially with set 4 30% increase.
Adding Unmatched at the end was more of a whim as it’s become my go to game and something I’m more than happy to invest in after the cost I spent on SWU.
Regarding the Mando starter set, it’s possibly the worst balanced of the current 3 but the mando leader is worth buying as he’s solid. You’ll have a bit of fun with it but you’ll soon find yourself needing to send again
Like you say, Unmatched on the other hand is super. Just wait until we get Star Wars unmatched 😏
@@oldboysnewtoys Well, that's exactly why I said I can't get into another TCG (the price difference between them and board games). I'm not into SWU and I've been avoiding it no matter how appealing it looks. I'm already playing DragonBall card game Fusion World, still collect because of nostalgia Yu-Gi-Oh and have a few constructed Magic Commander decks and will 100% be sinking under with the Gundam Card Game...I can't get into another TCG I CAN'T! I don't make that much money. xD
My idea was to have the Mando and Gideon set as a boardgame to play with my GF and sometime with friends here and there. Like I have collected around 8 constructed Commander decks for Magic and whip them out as a board game to play with friends (who don't play TCG's). It's just fun in a closed format. So I had absolutely no plan to spend on SWU after that starter (although let's be honest, if I end up having fun and liking the cards I WILL get tricked into collecting more eventually). Thank you for the heads up I will be passing on it for now...again. 3d time I decide against buying it...perhaps that's a sign I shouldn't.
There were times where I would've said StarWars Unmatched can't happen, especially because of Shatter Point but with the TMNT Unmatched set comming from crowd funding and the Witcher sets I've been shown dreams CAN come true. So let's hope we get that. Imagine the cool Mando mini and the awesome cards they will come up with! That's a game worth investing in! :D

Did you ever play SW Epic Duels game as this is effectively the genesis of Unmatched?
The set 4 decks also contain a booster. Also they should be more competitive compared to the previous startersets
"Should be", but with a lack so vast play testing (Which they clearly have never done since they admitted as much) and with the opponent knowing all the cards and how to play it and against it (as it's a vastly available deck), my 30 plus years of playing CCG's tell me it won't be competitive at all and you won't see anyone playing it in an event. The booster is good but this still only add about £3.50 in value so hardly justified the 50% increase in cost to me. Just my thoughts and happy to be proved wrong. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@oldboysnewtoysI dont understand why you keep saying they are not playtesting. They confessed making a mistake with set 1 Boba, but saying “they are not playtesting at all” is a bit of a jump
@@toom_moot Well, when you considered I met on the game designers at the Uk Expo in June last year who told me they were working on Set 7 at the time, it's pretty clear the play testing has been light or minimal at best. These companies work years in advance and do not have the teams or staff to play test enough which is why we always see power creep and totally unbalanced gaming going forward. It's impossible to play test effectively and still keep your product hidden. Look at the crazy amount of time Set 1 took to be printed and released again, this should help to understand the time in advance they work
Universus is a great game, would be interested in seeing a video about what you like about it.
Don’t worry, they’ll be coming. I’ve unboxed both the Vox Machina and Mighty Nein boxes and they’re both coming out this week. And once I’ve played this more, I’ll be sure to put the camera on.

Zatu…. My love/hate for that site. CC are amazing so that’s a good spot. Yeah I’d missed the pack when I recorded it so it’s not as bad as I thought but it’s still a bit of a jump from the first 3 sets

nice video mate! what a coincidence u mentioned unmatched! i really jumped the ship from swu.. i have my decks still and plenty good cards saved but not playing any more and i got into unmatched like a month ago and evenn playing solo im having so much more fun! and i think theres more value cause theres no bulk! i have a huge box full of swu bulk and bunch of lejendaries i wont even use but unmatched even solo mode im having tons of fun! so next swu set im thinkinfg instead of 130€ for a booster + pre release kit.. i could get all unmatched literally almost!

@oldboysnewtoys dude! i started with the adventures set! and its cool! but now i switch to solo adversary mode.. but with home ruling.. it may sound weird cause u play against another character with sone simple rules! there is another solo mode thats a bit more complex cause it takes into account the automas hand size with some tokens or cubes.. but i find that the simple mode is very fun! cause u can trow your best atack card and u flip the other one and its feint! just by chance! i mean playing against moth man i won most times playing this way i lose most times but have fun and get to know the decks! but all that is because im almost only solo player! i have no friends haha if im lucky i convince my GF to play one day! but still! im having lots of fun!
Mate, I have all the same issues. Neither my wife or 5 children will play anything with me. They’re not interested so solo it’s mostly for me. I have adventures but I’m yet to get it out as trying to learn the base game first. Since you message, I’ve found a couple of solo sheets on BBG and they look pretty cool. I also found a Steam Unmatched so I’ll wait for that to have an offer weekend to buy it

@oldboysnewtoys yesss!! i totally get you! exsactly theres plenty fan made info out there for unmatched solo modes! for years! i was tempted few years back but didnt buy and when i saw adventures on the shelf on christmas and read solo mode i was surprised csuse i didnt even knew about it! so i got it! and i played like 30 tines agaibs mothman and you can make it more dificult with more minions etc but i just wanted to play fast games to learn.. but currentlt i enjoy much much more playing solo just 2 characters in a board i control one and a basic automa.is the enemy! i dont do the thing were if they flip a defense csrd the enemy moved back or something i just use the rule that he always moves whats best for him to atack or defend! but i dont know what cards Will come out so i still dont know! if theres a random thing i use a yes or no token.. if it says he has to draw a card i heal a point of his hp instead.. essy things like that! if he has to discard i deal one damage instead; if a "yellow or event" card comes out if its good he plays t if not u flip another one.. the cards he does uses get discardwd the ones that are fliped but not used csuse dont make sense (like he is atacking and its a defend card) those get shuffled back in his deck each turn... its very simple rules but since u dont know what cards will come from him its similar to 1 vs 1! and i lose almost always! wich is better! cause makes u want play another one! im playing the samurai one currently and very fun and the samurai chick kicks my ass with the samurai dude and his guards! im glad i got to talk to you about this solo modes! dude i even made a custom fan made deck online! but im so new to the game it still needs work! i need tine to print it and try it but thats also very fun about unmatched! its "odin and ravens" deck and already want to make one for punisher and kraven the Hunter! (the fan made page lets u make the decks very easy with templates!) cheers dude! ill be looking fwd for your videos! and have fun playing solo unmatched!
Yes seems to be a vast amount of stuff for solo now you’ve opened the can of worms for me. I’m away with work and can’t get to my unmatched stuff until Saturday afternoon but once I’m home……👍
Apples and Oranges. I play Unmatched also it's a great game and great value. TCGs are just a different economy. Best bang for your buck is board games of LCG.

Sounds to me like your issue is with UK pricing more than anything else. Here in the States prices for SWU seem pretty reasonable, especially when compared with MTG.
That does seem to be a recurring theme on the prices in this rip off Country. However, it still feels that Set 4 starter sets are a vast increase on 1-3 as are Universus. Personally, I’d make them a really easy and cheap entry point to get more people in. MTG has become really daft in price but then we all know Hasbro need the cash 😂
I think they starter sets start out fine but as the game goes on it gets easily becomes a scam. I feel like my honeymoon with Star Wars Unlimited is starting to come to an end. I had a lot of fun playing at the Las Vegas PQs, but lately I’m having a lot more fun playing board games and Deckbuilder games. I’ve also been enjoying LotR Journeys through middle Earth.
My days of owning every single card in SWU is coming to an end. I think now I will be happy snagging commons and uncommon from my friends opening booster boxes, and then purchasing the singles online.
That’s exactly where I am with it too. Most of my L’s have now been sold and I’ve more than recovered what I’ve spent on it. I really like the game but FFG handling of it has really put me off. I’ve done the same and gone back to gaming and roleplaying. LotR journeys is great but same your cash and don’t start down the rabbit hole that’s the FFG LCG even if it’s amazing
Yeah the starter sets have got progressively worse and more expensive with each set
In my local card shop starter is $35 and they are shelf warmers. Now there is 20% off on them so might pick up Mando/Gideon one as I already have Luke/Vader and lot of cards from Twilight of the Republic set.
Perfect time to buy them. They're great value at a huge discount but there's not much in set 2 to write home about at full RRP. I hope you enjoy them

@oldboysnewtoys I remember opening a pack of Inquisition and getting a hand signed Venetian Marshall by Paul Bonner.... That was the wildest thing. It was actually signed with a gold pen

I wanted to play universes, but just couldn't get into it.
I can see why a lot of people can't get into it. There's a LOT of moving parts and using cards to cast cards and defense took a bit to get used to. I also really like the open themes and we have TMNT coming later too.
@oldboysnewtoys love the themes of the game. The game just feels overly complicated.
@@KennyDpdx universus is a terrible game, i use to play it years ago back when soul calibur was first added when jasco owned it. The game has gone through too many companies and the singles market is bad, very few ppl play the game in the us and the community's toxicity is one of the main reasons i quit.
It sure is overly complicated to play and deck build but it having fun playing it casually and that’s all I want from games now
I have exactly the same experience of SWU in my local town, actually and MtG. Heck, I think it’s just a CCG in general. People spend so much money to build decks that they assume should always win and then lose their shit when it doesn’t go their way.
I was amazed just how long it’s been around but I’m enjoying the new theme (for now) and I’m happy to play casually like I did with so many other games. SWU is the first game I needed to ‘complete’ and ‘compete’ and I won’t be in a hurry to do that again. I love the game but I won’t give FFG anymore of my money towards it. I will do a video on my reasons why once the others allow me too 😏
