I'm from France, and have a solid western classical musical background, but I just discovered Bulgarian musical genre. And I must admit it, its kind of a revelation. From my perspective, It sounds like it shares some features of Renaissance music from the 16th century, like Monteverdi, but with the addition of some oriental patterns, that would be totally forbidden in classical western music, and have not been introduced before the 19th century. So in a word, it sounds to me like extraterrestrial music from a different timeline :) I'm so glad to stumble upon this!
Thank you for your perspective on this. I don't have a classical background but I understand what you're saying, I felt those things you are able to describe. I only discovered this music an hour ago and I'm utterly stunned by it.
there is just so many things that keep on making my jaw drop at every listen like: 0:11 the subtle but powerful arrival of the baseline of chello blending so effortlessly with the melody of the singers 0:19 the whimsical melody adding to the background adding such ethereal and fantastic feel to it all 0:34 the sudden switch of the tempo and intensity of volume before it all starts coming back with the almost a-capella harmony 0:46 the second section of the choir setting up the pace with the note jumps at the ends of each line! 1:00 her. i see her in every video from this concert giving it her absolute all and i just cannot get over how beautiful her voice is 1:27 the lengthiness by with the intensity starts increasing rising up literal goosebumps to my skin! 1:36 again. her. 1:55 the millisecond pause before the industrial of the main melody comes back!!! 2:08 the power of the full chorus!
Yes, I agree with all your points. Gancho Gavazov is truly talented. I also love the opposition of the classical instruments to the Bulgarian throat singing. It creates overall an energy that gives me goosebumps if done right.
I was staring at the screen, tears rolling down my cheeks in stunned awe at what I was hearing. This is one of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. Devastatingly beautiful
Wonderful performance. The "Bulgaria" hall, built in 1937, where most of such folklore concerts are held, has long been too small to accommodate those who wish to attend them, especially foreigners who came specifically to Bulgaria to hear live some of the best folklore performers and choirs. Therefore, at a general level, a decision was made to build a new one with a much larger capacity. I hope that this will happen soon and that the first concert in it will be of the best Bulgarian artists from all musical genres, and they are by no means few....
The song often tears me up. Reminds me of entering my village in Bulgaria after having been away for a long time. To smell the fields and the wind of the motherland, that's what this piece feels like
"I have no idea to this day what those two ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it." - The Shawshank Redemption
Yes, good quote. The lyrics bring a whole new world you need to know for years and years and have experienced in some way in order to get them most of the time. The original was about Italian ladies but it's the same for any culture.
@@huskytail Some music sound really beautiful but it could be a bunch of nonsense. If a piece of music you don't understand can bring joy for the rest of your life, then maybe it is better to be ignorant in this case?
My fav movie.Actually texts/words in bulgarian folklore are very simple but in the same time they have deep meaning and even translated they can't bring the same meaning that they contain.
This is very old song. They are singing about one young husband that was just arrived from a long long trip and is waiting for his wife to go out of the house and wait for him, but she did not and instead his mother went out and said “she couldn’t come and see you because she (give a birth meanwhile) and is sleeping with the baby” :)
It could be hymns about losses in war. It is kind of tragic and also brilliantly put compositions that shoot straight through your heart..Even the soul. I'm near tears during these listening jams.
" Last night Stoyan returned from long roads far away. He was on the gates knocking and shouting ''Hey, come out pretty Dobro!'' (his wifes name, from Dobra, Dobrina - female name that cames from the bulgarian word ''good'') ''Came out to open the gates, so i can free the buffalos from the cariage, to free them and then to unload the cariage''. Pretty Dobra didnt came out, but Stoyans mother spoke to him: Dobra put the baby to sleep, she soundly (sweetly) fall asleep next to it... Its a song from Thracian folklore district, Bulgaria, where Im from, my father name is also Stoyan and he is profetional truck driver so I love this song. My mother name is Katya, but still... :)
D'ailleurs à une époque un groupe vendait ses CD ainsi "Le Mystère des voix bulgares". Origine presque mythique sinon de la civilisation de l'ancienne Thrace.

A fantastic example of beautiful Bulgarian folk music. I'm a Bulgarian living in the United States and I'm glad I found this channel.

Bellissime Voci Bulgare... ! Amazing🎶

Beautiful Bulgarians in fine voice!
Astounding
I don't understand the lyrics, but it's a sublime haunting flurry of other worldly harmonics and souls riding on voices.

Ценни сте повече от златото момичета
Безценни!

Essas vozes precisam do acompanhamento apenas de 2 instrumentos. O excesso de instrumentos prejudica as vozes.

Sfumature orientali nel canti complimenti.
used to hear this in my sunday church oh well zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
some of it sounds muslim. are they basically of Greek origin? cute as can be.
Bulgarian origin. They represent all of the Bulgarian ethnic arias in Bulgaria
The molodies are not based on arabic scales, Muslim music means nothing because there are many very different musical traditions. Greek origin? I don't think so. Greek music is very different.
Yeah i see sounds very muslim
@@marcopisu4704 muslim music means nothing ??? Well you don't know many things
It looks a lot !!!! go listen arabs scales
@@christinemaure4216 i play Arab scales they don't sound like that. There are many muslim countries with complitely diferent music.
I wouldn't buy the album, but the women (all ages) sure are good looking.
