      @OneEyedKingg 2 месяца назад +3

It’s literally a scalping system. McFarlane knows what he is doing. He is banking on collectors desires for limited and premium versions of figures just for a boost in sales. It’s really lame how many versions of the same figure are out there with exclusive accessories. I stopped collecting McFarlane figures over a year ago. I’ve had too many of his figures break on me literally out of the packaging. One instance my skyline dark knights arm literally fell off due to brittle plastic. There’s fare better companies out there with real premium figures like mafex, hot toys, mondo toys that id rather pay top dollar for.

To be fair, this isn't a thing that Mcfarlane started. Mattel was doing this type of stuff with their DCUC line. Sometimes, they wouldn't tell anyone about a variation of a fig. I do agree, "Just let us buy the fig".

    2. we likely wont even get in them in stores as most stores are still full of Black Adam and Flash movie figures
3.having repaints as Platinum's is fine but ENTIRE characters like Question or even the Blackfire platinum is mad just have them as 2 packs or normal releases or bring them out as Gold labels

Back in the 80s and 90s a "chase" figure was something you found in an actual toy store, now that everything is either online or pre ordered the days of the "chase" are over. Anything short packed is gonna get scalped for 3 times the price and if it's a new character, seriously their losing money cause people would buy it but it's not available.

Todd is convinced the fans love the chase but it's the one part of the hobby the fans hate the most and it ties into scalpers/resellers being assholes!
The red stickers is litterally Todd McFarlane doubling down on what his fans have been bitching about since day one and it honestly feels like he's doing it on purpose as a retaliation to the complaints because if there's one thing about Todd McFarlane that's painfully obvious is that he can't handle criticism in the slightest and turns into a pouting child when confronted!

You're 100% correct there's no need to have to fill up your car with gas and run around to all these different stores and chase things down. If you're going to do that you might as well pay to double cost that they charging on this third party sites such as eBay or whatever cuz by the time you find it the time you put into it and the gas is going to equal up to that anyway

Good discussion on this. I think moreso than the rhetorical, less fan hostile answer Mcfarlane would give, the real answer behind the curtain for why chases are happening is solely to appeal to retailers. In the end they do not care who buys the figure as long as it sells and scarcity is a good way to create fomo and sell figures.
I won't hunt for these because that only contributes to making it more viable for mcfarlane to do this.

Best way to find hard to find figures is tou have to go to the Hood Walmart or the one in the Hick Sticks. When people are looking for the basics to live paycheck to paycheck TOYS are not a priority so they stick around longer. Go to a higher income area where people have more free income to spend on toys and the collector stuff will be gone by people who have the disposable income or roy scalpers who are too scared to visit the Hood or Sticks.

I live in the countryside or sticks and only 1 walmart and no targets within a 1 hour radius and they don't even carry mcfarlane or marvel legends and that goes for most rural walmarts not sure about the hood ones and how they are stocked and set up but the sticks theory ain't happening and ain't no figures....that's why all these exclusive suck and all the millions of people who dont live in the city and don't have the option to drive to 5 seperate targets and walmarts are stuck paying double, triple the price on ebay sometimes more

Todd is taking our money, but mainly the scalpers taking advantage. Just like who the heck buys the jokerized figures. If sales were so low they would not still be making them. Todd is a marketing genius. I think the only way to combat the scalpers is reissues of the most popular figures.

The one in the hick part of town has all the figures and for a long time as well as all the Batman the new adventures. The other one had all the new releases except the Question which was the only figure I wanted but then they had 2 Batman Beyonds just sitting there. I love poping intk a Taeget and finding a new figure but I dont like the idea of chasing them down all over town.

Stores are in a bad situation where it's hard to find good figures and this makes it worse. They should be trying to get people in stores and other places so they can get it and they make more money, most McFarlane figures cost $25 to $30 plus dollars so this isn't helping. If a figure is worth it then fine but most of these aren't and it's tiring to hunt these things down.

  • @bondagedangel

Question is a unique chase because people have been wanting a Question figure for a while. Kinda like 'Classic Wonder Woman' which I have never been able to find and was my last straw in collecting mcfarlane. Along with the price hike. It's better off paying top dollar or $20 extra for an import.

The Platinum figures should only be Color Chases, and they should be weird random alternate colors, or a specific version of the character like the John Stewart GL that had the mistake logo he had in that firat appearance. They should not be full alternative versions of the character lile Clock King, or Armored Az-Bats and also not alternative characters like Blackfire.
Full Blown Chase Characters like Question, Sportsmaster, or the Manhunter is bullshit.

Todd is basically over valuing his mid product and trying to make it more special than what it actually is, that's all this is really. Some of these characters would sell just fine if they were just in a regular wave but no he has to pretend that people don't want those characters and makes them special releases and exclusives to justify making them.

I love these figs but I'm about done with Todd with this shit cuz he's seems 2 b only making the 1s every1 wants or new 1s like the question, new collectors r getting more screwed than ever cuz they can't jump n2 a field like this when it's a battle field just tying 2 get toys. This chase shi only seems 2 b good 4 those with more money than time and r all about I have it and u don't mentality. Ive collected my whole life and when I c something I have going 4 a lot on eBay I do feel a bit like that's cool but more so I think about the new collectors that have 2 spend 100 bucks on a 20 dollar figure. Every1 who wants 1 SHOULD b able 2 get 1 and wow it would make Todd even more money so I don't really get this new toy world I miss the 80s when you stores where a thing and they made sure u had what u wanted. Yes there were rare 1s then 2 but this became the whole damn trade. All Mcfarlane did was double down on a bad decision. I just want to BUY the Question. NOT hope he'll show up if I order something else. That's beyond dumb. Same goes for ALL characters. Each character should count as it's own figure and should be buyable on it's own. Screw chase anything! Hunting figures sucks! I want to go online and buy them outright.

Ok, I watched the video and I am a collector 2. But I am not like you , you are a pro. 😂 I'm a small collector from Germany I don't collect everything and I don't want to have every figure. I'm a picky person so I pick my figures on base of something I know and I like. For example most of the Page Punchers Figures I find awesome but some of the original Mcfarlane release I find stupid. Anyway, becose of you people that buy everything that comes from the McFarlane factory they know they can play this monopoly with all of us and they know that some of these figures will be chased down and the prises will go up on resell. Everything is about the money so, if you look there are so many stupid figures and they still cost a lot becosenyou ppl bought them all at the beginning and they now now (McFarlane team) everything they make will be sold out. These new half statues half figures that recently came out are such a mock up and I read the comments like 'omg this is what we need' , ' yes, make some more' and I'm like what!? I would never put those ugly figure in my house for people to see . We got to the point that everything he throws out on the market will be sold.
Nice video by the way I really love the questions and explaining it's hard for me to track those differences.

Long time, McFarlane Collector I get it you wish it was easy enough that you could get everything you want online correct however, some of us enjoy the hunt. I would prefer everything go to the store and never go online because when they put pre-orders up they’re gone within 15 minutes And then resell it is more fun to go to the stores and find them and that’s the purpose and that’s why they do partnerships with Walmart and target because Walmart and target want you to come to their store so they’ve got to deal with that makes sense that’s capitalism it that it wouldn’t be fun if it’s not as fun then I guess there’s different things to collect, but the fact that Todd knows that his product is far superior than any of the others. Of course he’s gonna do whatever he can to capitalize. His products are better than yardsof those other ones you pay like $80 $90 and they’re made out of really crappy nondurable plastic. You can usually throw a McFarlane figure up against the wall every now and then you’ll have those defects but that’s just bad luck.
