The French made the Fouga CM.170 Magister, which I think is one of the most beautiful planes ever, so I have to disagree that they didn't make any cool planes!

I think you're very optimistic ... The Mirage F1 has been withdrawn from French Air Force in 2015 considered as obsolete. Having worked o lot with Mirage F1 and F-16 , the Falcon is far superior. Better Weapon system and maneuvrability, motorisation, etc .. The parity is reached with Mirage 2000. The Rafale is far superior to the F-16, mainly due to its weapons system.

We retired ours last year as they were replaced by Eurofighters .. but even tought they had flew along F-18s for a long time pilots still loved them... tought they nicknamed the F-1s "grandmas"

Actually France is one of 3 countries self reliant in military aircraft industry and capable of building a fighter jet from A to Z.
