Glad you enjoyed your trip to Louisiana, Shaun. It's a whole other world in that state. Louisana spills over into the culture of East Texas to a degree. It's a bit funny that you were battling the heat, as our first big cold front is due this afternoon. If you had been in Louisiana tomorrow on the 25th, you would have needed your coat! The high temperature here in Central Texas is 80 degrees Fahrenheit right now, but it will fall to 40 tonight by midnight.
Very enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Just a bit of trivia for you: the only place in the US that has American crocodiles in the wild is South Florida and it is the only place in the world where you can find both alligators and crocodiles living in the same environment. I thought you might like to know that because you are a nature lover. Stay safe.
Was it just me or did Shaun’s eyes light up when he said that he might see turtles on the swamp tour? I think he may have been remembering turtle soup at The Court of Two Sisters.
I love watching his channel but I would love to see him hiking up in the mountains and see a small bear. 😂😂😂 most of the time I bear will run from people unless it is a mama bear with Cubs or it's very hungry and very big. Lol we had this bear up at Mill Mountain that apparently got curious or hungry. I live in Roanoke, Virginia; & this small black bear came downtown and it was around 4 or so in the afternoon right before everyone got off from work.. the poor little fella ran across the road and was so petrified he ran up a tree near the police station & the bus station. The police were telling people to get away because they feared the bear might come down and start chasing someone. Of course people were still trying to stand close by and get a good look at the bear because it was cute. The police finally had animal control and they shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun and the poor thing spell about 50 - 75 ft. from the tree. Thank God the bear was unharmed! Animal control in the veterinarian's took him in and gave him an examination to make sure that he was healthy and that everything was fine. Nothing was injured or broken. The bear obviously got curious or hungry. They said the bear well & tagged him just in case he should reappear. they kept in for about 10 days to make sure that he was okay from the fall and then they took him back up to Mill Mountain and let him go. I would love for Shaun to see something like that!!
How fun that looked. BTW, that head is an awesome memento to remind you of your trip to New Orleans. That animal wasn't killed for its head; it was killed for its meat. People were nourished. Nothing wrong with buying the head.
Surprised people outside of my state don't really eat it. It's got the best aspects of chicken and fish flavors. I just don't care for the alligator jerky. Seems more fishy than fried or grilled.
There's nothing wrong with that gator head. I'm vegetarian but I wear leather and shearling. I figure the skins are only a small percentage of profits and the thing that really drives the slaughter is meat. I can't change that. Besides, I don't want to be THAT vegetarian and run around trying to convert everybody. If I were to go full vegan, I'd have to wear plastic shoes and the glue holding them together would probably be from animals anyway.
Texas and Louisiana have a special relationship, very much like siblings. We've never, ever had a hurricane that Louisiana has not come to be helping Angels. I pray we've supported them as much as they've have us.
@Aracelis Morales Garcia de Ramos - Just for having a lizard on your ear? It's not cruel to do that if you're gentle with them and turn them loose outdoors after.
Shaun did it right. The airboats are more about the boat than the swamp, they are disruptive as hell and scare more wildlife away than one could imagine. Shaun's guide in this video is also one of the best.
I LOVED your appreciation of the Bayou! We tend to take for granted things in our own area....I've been in lots of swamps,....but, was never so happy as I was seeing the Puffins and Seals in Scotland!
I was born and raised in South Louisiana, Iive in Livingston Parish right outside of Baton Rouge. I am so glad you enjoyed your time in our beautiful state!
The little green lizard at beginning is a Carolina Green Anole. They can change color from bright green to brown to grayish. When you was in North Carolina you might have seen one if you had looked for one. They range from Texas to Maryland from the Mississippi river to the Atlantic ocean. Very common.
There is an immense sense of pride knowing that I come from Louisiana but at the same time, I have an immense sense of sadness knowing how much my state is eroding away from a land/nature standpoint... I am very happy you got a chance to experience it, Shaun...
Seminole Wind by John Anderson is the tale of modernization in Florida . Sad song . My Great Grandmaw was full blooded Seminloe . She used to gather clothes , cookware , and such up here in South Carolina and visit her folks every few years and help them out with her gatherings . She passed in 1985 when I was in US Navy A School training in Virginia after boot camp . My family didn't tell me of her passing until I had finished schooling . Came home from graduation to find my Geprandmaw Nannie buried . Blow Blow Seminole Wind , Blow like you're never gonna blow again .....
You are in my city! Welcome to Slidell, LA and you were in the Honey Island Swamp. I’m so happy you loved it and everything your tour guide said about Hurricane Katrina was absolutely true. I wish you safe travels.
Water moccasins. I lived in the swamps for a few years. Found myself swimming with an alligator on one side & a water moccasin on the other. Wow. We ate the water moccasin! I am very comfortable in Cajun country. Mosquitoes love me. I worked fishing in the swamps for awhile. Very eye awakening to ones soul.
There was probably more than one water moccasins. They nothing nice have had them chase me. I would of freaked swimming by alligator. Been by them but never in water with them, i would of died
Man I've been living in new orleans my whole life. You can tell by that mans passion and voice he has a deeper connection to the bayou than most people. I am so glad you took that tour. Next time you come make a day to go fishing. This is some of the best fishing you can do.
Shaun, I hope you and your wife had a chance to go on a ghost tour while you were there. I know y’all have them in Scotland (I went on two), but the one in New Orleans is especially creepy and good. Some really great history there.
The thing is i live actually down street from honey island swamp.ive been a fan for awhile so when this series came out i was so happy to see your videos on our cuture. I really appreciate your veiws on our culture and your honest intrest in Louisiana(besides just getting wasted like many people do ).Its crazy to think you were just 5 min away a couple weeks ago lol.
🐊🐊🐊😍 I love-love-loved this vlog!!! I am so glad you got to not only eat alligator but see them in their natural habitat. I live in NE Texas by the Louisiana border, and we have a feral hog problem on our property. Not only do we have to be vigilant for deer on our highways, but we also have to watch out for those hogs. I love that you caught more than just these large animals on camera because that is where the charm is in all of the creatures and plants and sounds. 🦎 Oh, and we pronounce “bayou” like “buy-you”.😉
Absolutely loved this vlog!!! I was born and raised in bayou country an hour south of New Orleans. It's my favorite city. I now live on the other side of the USA, and your vlog brings back so many wonderful memories. Thank you! I'm glad y'all were able to take a swamp tour, as well as visit and eat the fabulous food in New Orleans. I also enjoy your vlogs about Scotland, especially because we discovered my Momma's ancestors were from Scotland and Ireland, via Oklahoma. It explains a lot, because I was raised in Cajun country. The differences in cultures, and accents, gave me love of different cultures, languages, and accents. I'm learning and looking forward to more vlogs. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Shaun, for this fabulous video. I live in Los Angeles and, sadly, don’t foresee ever visiting New Orleans and its surrounding environs. Your excitement and enthusiasm are contagious.
I've been on several of these tours, and I always love how knowledgeable the tour guides are. You can tell they love what they do and are so passionate about the swamps and wetlands here in Louisiana :).
I was in New Orleans last October and visited Honey Island also! I didn’t get a gator skull but I did get some honey in the gift shop. It was amazing and tasted like honeysuckle. If you’re looking for an awesome diner, daisy dukes on chartres just east off canal. Hope you’re having a great vacation :)
Have you eaten any alligator yet. Tasty stuff. If you spot one of the Cajun Charlie's restaurant chain, I highly recommend it. It's buffet style, very tasty and you will get a huge bunch of choices to try, including alligator and they make some sweet potato fries that are to die for.
Shaun, So very glad that you had the opportunity to visit this unique part of the United States. I live in in the Chicago area but love New Orleans. There are so many beautiful and unique places in the U.S. I hope you get the chance to experience many more of them. The diversity in culture and geography here is amazing. I recently had the opportunity to drive from Chicago to Salt Lake City Utah and saw a good portion of the country most people fly over. They don't know what they're missing. Happy travels.
Chicago's awesome. I always saw it as the Midwest's NOLA, with its jazz culture. It's honestly the only part of the Midwest I'm not bored by lol. My ex was from NW Ohio, and it's so desolate. Prefer their temps over Louisiana's though.
(1) That tiny green lizard you saw on the boardwalk is called an Anole or Anolis Lizard, common in the gulf coastal area. (2) In case they didn't tell you, you need to search RUclips for "Honey Island Monster". You were in his territory there.
This was an amazing video Shaun. I'm an American living way up north near Canada and to me this part of the US might as well be on another continent. Our part of the US here in Washington state would remind you of your home in Scotland much more anything down there in Louisiana. Just goes to show the amazing diversity that exist here in the US and why so many of us vacation here in our own country. 😊😊😊😊 If you want to be blown away by another area of extreme natural beauty you should visit the moonscapes of Utah and Arizona. You could literally believe that you had be teleported to the far side of the moon. Eons of wind and water erosion has carved out rock formations and canyons that look otherworldly. 😊😊😊😊 Cannot wait to see what you do next Shaun. Love this type of content. 👍👍👍👍👍
Drove through Louisiana a couple of times as a kid with my family visiting relatives in Mississippi. I really need to visit sometime. Loved the video. Thanks for sharing Shaun.
I know I only saw a small portion of your tour, but I can tell from watching that Luka is an exceptional guide and story teller. I'm so happy you got to have this experience.
I found my Scottish ancestry! Clan Forbes. I am working out exactly who it was in that clan. I guess my ancestor was captured by the British and sent to the colonies. When he got here, the immigration dude could not understand his brogue and wrote his name down as "Forbush" That name I already knew. So a great discovery! Yay!
Best I can figure my Waddell and Gowan ancestors came to PA and migrated down the Appalachian Mountains here to Upstate S.C. / Western N.C. . I have Splawn ancestors from Ireland . Seems Splawn is a derivative of Spillane , like the author Mickey Spillane .
The swamp reminds of Gator McCluskey. The shack he lived in access by a plank walk just over the hungry alligator filled swamp.Yep, My favorite Burt Renolds character.
I live in New Orleans and took a swamp tour with my family a few years ago and loved it! The tour guide got distracted and ran us into some branches at full speed which could have been so dangerous but no one was hurt so we laughed about it for ages. Good memories. Loved the vid!
That was interesting. I've been in the Okefenokee Swamp here in Georgia, and done an airboat tour in the Florida Everglades, but never a swamp boat tour in Louisiana. I'm gonna have to now! Thanks for showing us around.
Abby Smith : I live in coastal North Carolina and we have many gators here, plus feral pigs, and many poisonous snakes (ick!)! My husband has killed copperheads, rattlesnakes, water moccasins. I worked with a Registered Nurse whose husband had a close relative when they were boys. They went swimming on a small but deep body of water and that relative jumped in first..........straight into a water moccasin’s large nest. When they saw that he had not come right back up like he always did, they waited just another minute. In that time, he had been bitten so many times that he was disfigured and bloated.
Yeah management of the swamps is keen . We humans can easily use up all its resources without thinking much but not only did you purchasing that head give some scraps left over from the harvest some meaning but it also goes directly into management of the local species . People usually don’t understand how much support for conservation comes from farmers , fishers and hunters ; in population control as well as financially . Just know that not only did that head give you a souvenir but it also helps the local conservation efforts . Also quick story apparently my great aunt won the state record for one year from an alligator she caught in hunting season ( with the aid of several others but the ticket was registered to her or whatever I’ve never been gator hunting ) , I’ve been to her house and the head is huge , I mean it’s as big as a decently large microwave .
Shaun, I love coming along on your travels through the states you've visited. It's amazing seeing everything through your (fresh) eyes. We tend to take so much for granted so thank-you for reminding us of the fabulous treasures in our own backyards. Love to you and Teka ❤😘🤗
Random that I found your channel. I’m from North Carolina. I think it’s awesome you get to travel to different places while in america as it is such a big country. I’ll definitely be subscribing so I can watch your trip to NC!
Important thing for your health when you visit our nation's southern states:When you get to the location you'll mostly be in it's important for you to visit the nearest bee keeper in that area within a couple miles.Purchase honey and some other products from that keeper as it will help you with immunities from that area. The best honey MUST be directly from the bees around you and not shipped in to that place.Sorry I'm playing catch up with your vids Shaun but they're all good.
I'm already picturing the great display shelf that alligator head will make! You could drape the shelf with fake Spanish moss, keep a hurricane handle and a hook to hang the new hat from! LOL Alligator is similar texture and flavour to eating chicken. I'm up near Toronto and we have a chain that used to serve deep fried alligator pieces (kinda like boneless wings) and they were so good! My Dad was from Forth and he's the reason I'm such a wildlife junkie! I grew up watching all kinds of intelligent, educational programming like science shows and animal shows etc etc. Netflix has a great series you'd love called Our Planet. Heather xo
The ecosystem all over the U.S. is fragile. As a matter of fact, you could say that about Scotland too. Most ,but not all, know it is hunters and fishermen/ fisherwomen who help with keeping our forests and waters safe and sound for generations to come. Sound management is the only way .
Way cool!!! For some reason I couldn’t get Water Boy out of my head while I watched the video lol! The chickens are coming home to roost Bobby Boucher! 🐊 🐍 🐿
I think it was actually filmed in the swamps of Florida, but supposed to be (or represent) the swamps of Louisiana (and the fictional Mud Dogs of South Central Louisiana State University). At least that’s what MAMA SAYS! 🐊
Since I decided not to visit New Orleans ever, this vlog is very interesting. I’ve learned a few things about the swamps there. It really never interested me before but this is interesting. Thank you, Shaun and Teka.
Shaun, that's a tour you can't get in Europe. While on the subject, isn't it amazing when you think about it, that without leaving the USA, you can also see the Arctic (northern Alaska) and the tropics (Hawaii)? I'm so glad you decided to do this.
It’s pretty awesome here. Rain forest in the Pacific Northwest, high desert in the Rockies, Appalachian mountains, all the different costal places. You can travel to so many kinds of places within the US.
My aunt is from Baton Rouge Louisiana and she told me that once or twice I can't remember, this 5 foot alligator just walked right into her home and freaked her out 😂
@@laurie7689 yes they are. In SC we have open season on boars and you don't need a hunting license to hunt them because they are extremely destructive. They destroy farm lands and will eat other animals and will starve out other wildlife. Each sow can have up to a 100 piglets and each one of those piglets will have up to a hundred. I've seen a pack of boars eat a coyote and deer. They will turn on each other and eat members of their own pack. The tusk are deadly but they carry toxic bacteria on their too.
Thank you for sharing your vacation with us! I love the excitement and enthusiasm you bring to every video. You and your wife are wonderful! Best wishes and much love! ❤️
Southeast Louisiana girl here. If you ever make it back to the New Orleans area, I highly recommend checking out the Insta Gator Ranch right across the lake from the city. You get to pet baby gators. It's pretty sweet. Also, north of the lake in Covington, we have some absolutely amazing restaurants such as Del Porto, and Oxtlot 9. Sharing some local suggestions :).
Thanks for sharing your trip. Learned lots of things just listening to Luca. He was a great guide. So wish I could be a Patreon member. I was laid off from my job and rely on my husband for total support. I have lots of medical bills with no insurance so I'm afraid I don't have any extra money to spend. But I do love all your videos and the things you share. Thank you again. Enjoy that new camera!
Luka was really great! Honestly, do not feel obliged. I’m just grateful to have you here commenting. It’s amazing to have everyone in this community. Hope you have a great week 😊
Sounds like someone bought a Cajun music CD while they were in NOLA lol Well done, sir. I very much enjoyed the video. You should've gone to Willie Mae's in the Ninth Ward for chicken and waffles while you were there. I hear it's outstanding. Anthony Bourdain, Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, etc., etc., have been there for the outstanding fare. I need to ask my cousin Charley if he's been there yet. Take care and have a great day.
I'm so jealous... When I had the opportunity to visit Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, it was pure serene joy. I'm so glad you got the chance to see this part of our beautiful country.
Great fun Shaun! Thanks for another adventure! I live on the other side of the USA. Glad you took us someplace I've never been to! You're lucky you didn't get eaten by mosquitos! Those feral hogs are scary! We don't have them here in Utah. But we have bigger predators. Thanks again! Can't wait until next Sunday!
Got really excited when I saw that you'd gotten out into nature! Loved the slow-mo alligator heads shots. Love the Everglades and bayous! Even the bugs are cool. Thanks for the ride-along. You awesome. Looking fwd to next one!
Hi Shaun! 2 things that annoy a New Orleanian are 1) Asking if they know Voodoo 2) Asking them to say New Orleans and expecting “N’awlins”. THANK YOU for saying it properly!! Come back and visit anytime!!

Imagine being one of the first Europeans to visit the Bayou 300 years ago. It must have seemed like another planet.
I was thinking that. Must have been crazy
By the time they got there I’m sure they had already seen a lot. I imagine it was harder on them because there were also the native tribes.
The Cajuns (Arcadians) traveled down from Canada when the English took over.
@@HemlockRidge That's part of my family's heritage.

I'm glad you got a taste of Louisiana alligator without they're getting a taste of the rare and elusive red bearded Scotsman.
That's a cute comment, and true, lol

When I was a child, I knew kids who would let those lizards bite on to their ears and hang them there like an earring. 😁
That was my youngest son, his party trick! Lol
We did the Anole lizard earrings in Texas, too.

I was one of those kids lol
That is one of the most uniquely American & Cajun experiences you can have. Completely unique experience.
You should, if you ever go back, go on one of the glass bottom bayou boat tours!
I’m surprised they can see through the water to be honest
Or try riding on an airboat.
Shaun did it right. The airboats are more about the boat than the swamp, they are disruptive as hell and scare more wildlife away than one could imagine. Shaun's guide in this video is also one of the best.

When he got here, the immigration dude could not understand his brogue and wrote his name down as "Forbush" That name I already knew. So a great discovery! Yay!
That IS super Scottish!
Thanks for the bayou tour! Glad to see those folks doing better. They endured the rage of nature.
Bronze Italitized thanks, I’m glad to see the farming is having a positive impact on the wild gators
Thank you for joining in Candice 😊 NC videos coming soon 😊
7:49 that last minute mid air catch tho
Born and raised in the bayou never forgot where I came from I miss the sounds of the bayou now I live in japan crazy where life takes you
Important thing for your health when you visit our nation's southern states:When you get to the location you'll mostly be in it's important for you to visit the nearest bee keeper in that area within a couple miles.Purchase honey and some other products from that keeper as it will help you with immunities from that area.
Heather xo
Came across a video of yours awhile ago and moved on...found you again today and this time subscribed! Look forward to more!
Good to have you here. Thanks for doubling back 😀
Hey Shaun you put together some really nice footage. great job.
cheers from a New Orleanian
Great video. It's amazing the alligator head survived the trip back to Scotland intact.
Shaun’s production value and editing skills are top-notch. Nice job!
The ecosystem all over the U.S. is fragile. As a matter of fact, you could say that about Scotland too. Most ,but not all, know it is hunters and fishermen/ fisherwomen who help with keeping our forests and waters safe and sound for generations to come. Sound management is the only way .
The ecosystem is perfectly fine in Louisiana you liberal junky
You are a very kind and real person. I enjoyed the video. It’s so fun to see what you will say and show us next. Keep on rocking in the free world!
Way cool!!! For some reason I couldn’t get Water Boy out of my head while I watched the video lol! The chickens are coming home to roost Bobby Boucher! 🐊 🐍 🐿
Carrie Streeter haha I love that film. Was it set in Louisiana?
I think it was actually filmed in the swamps of Florida, but supposed to be (or represent) the swamps of Louisiana (and the fictional Mud Dogs of South Central Louisiana State University). At least that’s what MAMA SAYS! 🐊
@@shaunvlog You can do it!
That girl's the devil I say!!! great movie!!
Should have put on same Cajun/zydeco music on this boat ride.
I looked all over for some copyright free but couldn’t find any :/ shame as I love Zydeco
Since I decided not to visit New Orleans ever, this vlog is very interesting. I’ve learned a few things about the swamps there. It really never interested me before but this is interesting. Thank you, Shaun and Teka.
Awesome video. I grew up and still live in Pearl River. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here and showed what makes this place great. Thank you.
New Orleans is on my bucket list. Fantastic video!
I've enjoyed this New Orleans series. I've been there many times, but it has been years now since my last visit. It's time to go back.
New Orleans swamp's are great piece of wilderness to preserve. We loved the video and the wild pig performance !!
Thanks for showing us part of our country that I've not seen. But an alligator head. Lord, have all the Mercy. Travel well.
This was very enjoyable to watch.
Thank you
My aunt is from Baton Rouge Louisiana and she told me that once or twice I can't remember, this 5 foot alligator just walked right into her home and freaked her out 😂
The alligator head is very cool! I am so glad you had such a good time! I hope you come back one day and come further west! ❤️❤️❤️
You have to go to the Grand Canyon! It's amazing and if you enjoy nature you would love it!
The drive along the coast from Newport beach to San Francisco was my best trip. Big Sur was my favorite
My husband took a trip to NO and brought back scratchers made from alligator claws. They're grisly things.
As a Louisiana resident I hope you enjoyed your trip. Gotta come up to Baton Rouge for a game at tiger stadium next year. 102,000 fans.
Love your videos and seeing your adventures! I had my first visit to Scotland this year and it was amazing!
You got some really great shots of those Gators eating those treats.
Nice swamp tour. 😂😂😂. Thanks for sharing Shaun.
SHAUN ..... GLAD you came to MY
LOUISIANA .... Y’all commo’n BACK and wear your Kilts ....
They are vicious and we hunt them all year long because one hog can have up to 100 piglets but they are predators
yup
Feral hogs are omnivores, aggressive, and powerful enough to damage fields & equipment
@Sandman Huffmaster Under certain conditions, parts of them make decent BBQ Pulled Hog Sammiches
@@rwbimbie5854 agree! Have to be under 60lbs to make for good eating
They are so damn good too.
Thank you for sharing your vacation with us! I love the excitement and enthusiasm you bring to every video. You and your wife are wonderful! Best wishes and much love! ❤️
I did this same tour last year with a different guide. This is the best and all the guides or passionate and hilarious!
Glad you had a good time! You weren't far from my house, mate!
Your videos are always so beautifully shot & the music perfectly fits. You are a true artist Shaun. Thank you & can't wait for more. Xoxox
Sounds like someone bought a Cajun music CD while they were in NOLA lol
Well done, sir.
Jaimie Johnson thanks Jaime, I really enjoyed visiting 😊
Wonderful way to end your trip! Come back soon!
I live about an hour away from there. Did you get to see the Honey Island Swamp Monster?! He's our Big Foot! Proud of him.
Shaun, I thoroughly enjoy your channel. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
thank you for being here :)
Shaun Sure thing
Glad y’all had a good time!
Really great video Shaun. Loved going down the river with you. That was fun!
The swamp is very beautiful in its own way. Here in Florida we have similar swaps.
Totally agree they are very cool
I live near to swampland but have never explored it. Cheers to you.
This trip to the swamps was amazing,Shaun. Thank you.
Fantastic shots of those Gators!
Cheers Justin 😊
Felt like I was right there with you on the boat ride thru the swamp...GREAT vid, Shaun😁😉!
Glad you recovered from your previous escapade!
I so glad you pronounce the name right. New Orleans
