You don't need much Mathematics for the basics, but as a researcher/ epidemiologist you have to deal with numbers. For calculations, you can use a calculator and software, but you should know how it is done or what test to be applied. Rest is fine and manageable, you don't need to be a hardcore mathematician for being an epidemiologist or researcher.
