Released on the 4th of January this new mod for Rome 2 takes place during the Successor Wars and I have to say is fast becoming one of my favourite campaign mods currently available for the game!
In today's video I go through everything you need to know about The Successor Wars mod from compatibility with Para Bellum, the playable factions, the changes to mechanics & of course how the battles feel as well. By the end I guarantee you'll want to check this out for yourself!

More mods for Rome II, Attila and Empire would be great.
Very happy about this one. Diadochi wars is definately...a time for Total War. I was wondering why CA never made a dlc about that period. The prospect was entirely there- powerful hellenistic states wanted to dominate over each other. Good modding news you brought as always Termi!!
The Era of the Diadochi is so under-rated, its a crime CA never went to this period. Explains so much of the time period and how crucial this is. Fun fact: There's a novel series called Queen of the Seas, which takes a 21st century Cruise Ship which time travels back to the era of the Diadochi...and things go wild. You'll see nations like the Romans and other Italians forming a republic, Carthage trying to build a new navy and getting scared of the powerful influence of the Macedonian Empires, and power players of this period. I read this novel series, and then I found this mod on the steam workshop and it was so goodddd.
I'm going to make my video as well!
Good book find Medjay. I am looking it up now. I love fantasy time travel books.
I just saw the book covers on Google. I read the first book in the series. I love Eric Flint. He really knows how to write alternate history.
@@Smenkhaare Thank you, you will not be disappointed
@@Smenkhaare Just note, the series is a little confusing. So check it up on Wikipedia as it is not Eric anymore sadly he passed away
But you should be able to read it in order
let me know what you think!
@ Oh My GOD...Eric is gone. Too bad. He was such a good man and a great talent. He wrote about everyone in history. His early work with Bellisarius is good as well. Check it out if you have not already done so. His Assati Shards series are to die for.
Thanks again for the spotlight Terminator! R2 modding is far from dead 😤
I played this mod with the para bellum patch. I played first as Rome to have the Italian wars. And tbh it's great to start out like this and conquer Italy, and make client states out off those Illyrian tribes. I played slow (so they could build up too) and it was great on hard. Then I played as the Seleucids and it was so much fun. If they flesh the campaign a bit more out, and make Baktria playable it will be perfect.
Also please do a campaign men so other youtubers start one too.
And I have good news. There is soon a new submod for Para Bellum that is about the furst Punic war on ROTR map. It will be incredible !
Edit: youtuber Sword of Rome has a campaign with succesor wars campaign
Good to see more mods with the Diadochoi
Bruh lol
@@dannyalex5866 why "bruh". The point of mods is not to compete against each other
BIG fan of your Demetrios Poliorketes mod btw Gyrosmeister, cannot overstate how good of a job you did with that one
@@Gyrosmeister im not a grand campaign player as you already know...
Me neither I rather play the dlc campaigns or the Mithradatic wars ot Macedonian wars campaign. This year Para Bellum brings out the first punic war campaign too. I'm looking forward too that.@@dannyalex5866
I played it and the seleucid expansion East is so fun
Happy to hear man!
The Last of the Mohicans music playing in the background turned my engine over as much as the gameplay footage.
Well done.
I finished today with Demetrios Poliorketes mod and now I started a new campaign as the Antigonids. I really like the fact that I have to start with the siege of Salamis, Demetrius greatest victory. Overall the mod looks very good, amazing work from the moders
Oh man.... time to install Rome 2 again. Roma Invicta! ⚔
Yes sir!
Wow thank you! Great to see a mod that’ll take more of my time
Enjoy!
Played as almost all the successors its a great mod.
So, we are back to civil wars, secessions, attacks from weak enemies who must be mad. Time for some more mods!
I really like it, nice change of pace. Looking forward to the submods
Lol i tried so hard to replicate the Diadochi wars in DEI ‘s Alexander campaign. Now that I can play it for real, it’s great!
Great spotlight! I'll give it a try as soon as possible
This looks awesome!!!! Totally downloading it
Loving these last videos you are putting up. I used to watch you from time to time, but now I don't miss an upload! I just wonder how you were able to put the last of the mohicans track without getting demonetized 😂 keep it up man!
One of my favorite periods, and one of the least covered in...anything. 306 is an interesting place to start, it is already during the first partof the last Diadokhoi phase (the main players are all still around but the Fourth War has already started), but the Antigonids and Antipatrids aren't yet entangled.
This is essentially 20 years after Alexander has died. The First and Second Wars of the Diadokhoi were among people that are mostly now dead, with the big names having taken their places. Seleukos managed to take Babylon, while Antipatros' son Kassandros has taken Greece because he controlled Alexander's mother and son, Antigonos' son has tried to take Greece and was almost successful but then got kicked out essentially. The Epirotes are on the rise and young Pyrrhus of Epirus absolutely hates the Antipatrids and so joins the war effort against them at 13 in some small way (we don't really know how yet) but it gets Demetrios to agree to marry one of his family to one of the Epirotes which will come back to bite everyone, Antigonos is the big man on campus, but has trouble on almost every front. Ptolemy, Seleukos, and a number of the smaller states and Greek alliances have already smacked the Antigonids around a bit and stopped two invasions of Egypt, Seleukos has made some minor alliances with the Saka up in Bactria and Sogdiana so he is starting to field mixed cavalry forces.
So by this point, there has already been 20 years of continually war, and some of the densest political, marital stuff with alliances and backstabbing and massive battles, and it isn't even halfway over.
Though it doesn't look like Rome is historically what they were really, because Italy is so freaking bare. How did CA make so few settlements in Italy?! Rome at the time were still fighting almost like hoplites, with a recently reformed structure to the manipular system, but they should still be spearmen, and they were heavily reliant on their allied (already conquered) Italian socii at this point to field armies, Latins mostly. Without Capua and Neopolis, you unfortunately can't have how the Samnite Wars actually worked, nor the Roman conquest of the northern parts of Magna Graecia. I hope they can figure out how to add more in, in time.
Start a campaign with this mod
Similar to New World mod where you can use Atlantis based in North Africa Morocco all the Italian states samite's & others good mod
Thank you for still covering all the Rome 2 mods, thank you!
Oh man now I can't decide between this or 1100 AD. The diadochi wars are such an interesting period of history.
Why you and Andy are always so excited? These are just video games.
Time to make Macedonia greater as it was ever before
This soundtrack is from a Hollywood blockbuster.
I can't see ContentID being chill about this.
Those who decided to put it as a background sound in this Mod have no idea just how bad they screwed up content creators willing to speak about it on RUclips.
Successor Wars still has change the unit default Rome 2 unit icons.
Are you gonne do a campaign please? Preferably with the Para Bellum mod..
Let's try this Mod 😎
Fine you convinced me to try this mod. It's nice to have some fresh mods in R2 which tends to be "monopolised" by a certain big overhaul mod...
Have you tried the Age of Arthur mod for Thrones of Britannia?
Yeas i needed this mod thank you for telling me about this mod
I’m glad you covered this mod, I didn’t know it came out , but I’ve always wanted a wars of diadochi and although I don’t give parabellem as much love as it deserve, I’m happy the mod works alongside para bellum as it’s really good mod, yet of all the Greek factions, I had to play as Rome the only thing I dislike is the Brutii emblem from Rome 1 as the emblem of Brutii (Bruttians) which isn’t right.
edit: im using the parabellum mods that was in steam workshop page for compatibility patch for successor kingdoms as I prefer those unit cards over the vanilla unit cards
Basically vanilla minus eastern factions
Good video Termi
Thanks Scip ❤️❤️
A proper compatch with Para Bellum mod is on tbe way the said on PB Discord which is quite a huge improvement for this mod imo
No Persians ? I guess I'll wait till they're added
Hey! I was looking for this a few months ago when I started my Greek history playthrough.
Hey nice video! I wonder guys if there is a good mod abo7t Caesar vs Pompey mod, is would be awesome to have a mod where you first have to conquer the galia and then u ahve the civil war, if there is a mod like this, please let me know!
craziest 10 minute yap of my life
This channel in a nutshell
That is great news! To you sayed it is not DEI compatible right?
I tend to prefer that to any other mod (not that they are not good, just personal preference)
Not compatible as far as I’m aware
@ unfortunate, I’ll give it a go non the less👍
Well shit. There goes my weekend
This would be so interesting if it were implemented in DEI
imagine if they could implement this campaign in DEI
Very cool and subtle mod, I just don't like the default unit icons that destroys it for me. If they change those it'd be much better.
i’ll try it out when it’s playable with DEI
I recently read a book about this era but looks like this mod doesn't have Eumenes. He was the most interesting character. A barbarian to Makedonians(because he was Greek) commanding the silver shields, a big army and lots of elephants.
I'm guessing the start date is before eumenes became independent
To clarify, even though this mod is called 'Successor Wars', the actual event it's set during is known as the Diadochi Wars, or Wars of the Diadochi.
The word Diadochi is an ancient Greek word that means "successors".
Does the dlcs maps have any overhaul like demetrios?
I've been spoiled by DEI mechanics. I can't play Rome 2 without them :(.
It's compatible with Para Bellum but is it Compatible with DEI?
Have you heard of a new game called Strategos? It seems like it will be what rome2 battles should have been. I can’t play total war no matter how hard I try with mods because the battles cannot be fixed.
We need medieval mod for rom 2...😢
Sadly no matter how much u mod the game, the battles look and feel like shit and the ai is running on a binary braincell.
so many cool mods, but it's a shame I just don't like the gameplay or Rome 2
Keeping the horrible looking Rome 2 unit cards is a shame. Hopefully they get replaced in future updates
No unit card skins ? bah... lazy no thanks.
Its compatible with Para Bellum now so yes updated unit cards :)
