    A rotating turret, the engine compartment separated from the crew and placed on the rear... The first tank to have these features, and more than 100 years after, it's still basically the same configuration for nearly all the existing mbt's, except the israeli Merkava. Amazing !

    Every field of vehicles seems to have this phenomenon. For planes, it’s the AN-2. For tanks, the Renault FT. For submarines, it’s the Stirling engine. For ships, it’s the USS Constitution. For trains, it’s the Union Pacific “Big Boy.” For cars, it’s the Model T.
    There is always one specific make of machinery that is freaking IMMORTAL, and for absolutely no reason other than “Does it run? It’s fine then.”

    • @soldierofwessex7616
      @soldierofwessex7616 Месяц назад +1

      i would agree with most of those, eccept constitution, yes she is still around and moving, but her machinery is non existant,
      saying that her machinery has survived would be a lie because she never had any in the first place, a better example would be ships likebritish ironclad HMS warrior or russian monitor strellets which both actually poccess an engine and can both go to sea

    • @tommyw.9424
      @tommyw.9424 5 лет назад +133

      it isn't when you think about how there were a lot more FTs made and that they are a much more simple design than the Tiger, as well as a Tiger being hugely expensive to take care of and run

      ah the french everyone underestimates them

    • @Edax_Royeaux
      @Edax_Royeaux 4 года назад +13

      No it makes sense. FTs were built to be cheap and mass produced. In fact if you were going to make a WWI film, it was not be terribly hard to just build a few FT tanks for it on a movie budget. The Tigers on the other hand, are symbolic of German over-engineering. The only real knock against the FT is that it was not designed with maintenance in mind.

    To be totally correct this is a pre WW2 “upgraded” version. Armed with a Mac31. Not strictly original FT-17. It also has the updated all steel idler wheels and the bit more heavily armoured drivers vizor.

    • @leneanderthalien
      @leneanderthalien 4 года назад +13

      The Renault FT from WW1 was fitted with 2 armament tipes: a Hotchkiss 8mm Lebel machine gun with 800 shots, or a Puteau 37mm canon with 225 shells.The MAC 31 also called "Reibel machine gun", is based on the MAC 24-29 automatic rifle, cal 7.5mm x 54, but adapted to vehicle and fitted with 100 shot drum magazines

      well it was pretty different from it, the mark V was a heavy tank compared to the light tank that was the Renault FT, what made the Renault FT so popular among the french army is that it was easy to produce so you could deploy more of them through the whole front.
      So to take out light defenses the Renault FT would be better but against heavy defenses the Mark V would probably be better.

      Weight doesn't matter too much. Most heavy, modern wheeled vehicles weigh more than the FT. The metal tracks digging into the concrete is what's doing the damage - partially why many modern tanks have rubber track pads instead of being all steel.

Where painting is concerned keeping it to a minimum cuts down on materials and their environmental impact as well a future redesign and expense. Lol, "original." Bro, every FT is an original, lmao. They used them up until the 80s but they weren't still making them, lmao. 🤦 That's like saying you have an original AK-47. ALL AK-47s are original because they stopped making them in the fifties. Unless you have a different model or some reproduction, it's an original.
