A rotating turret, the engine compartment separated from the crew and placed on the rear... The first tank to have these features, and more than 100 years after, it's still basically the same configuration for nearly all the existing mbt's, except the israeli Merkava. Amazing !

it isn't when you think about how there were a lot more FTs made and that they are a much more simple design than the Tiger, as well as a Tiger being hugely expensive to take care of and run
No it makes sense. FTs were built to be cheap and mass produced. In fact if you were going to make a WWI film, it was not be terribly hard to just build a few FT tanks for it on a movie budget. The Tigers on the other hand, are symbolic of German over-engineering. The only real knock against the FT is that it was not designed with maintenance in mind.
To be totally correct this is a pre WW2 “upgraded” version. Armed with a Mac31. Not strictly original FT-17. It also has the updated all steel idler wheels and the bit more heavily armoured drivers vizor.
The Renault FT from WW1 was fitted with 2 armament tipes: a Hotchkiss 8mm Lebel machine gun with 800 shots, or a Puteau 37mm canon with 225 shells. The MAC 31 also called "Reibel machine gun", is based on the MAC 24-29 automatic rifle, cal 7.5mm x 54, but adapted to vehicle and fitted with 100 shot drum magazines
Even for such a small tank it's fairly chewed up that road surface! I think it's cute it Even sounds like an old banger I remember when younger lol alot of my Dad's Peugeots sounded chappy as heck like this lol
But remember this is running on flat, solid ground and not in the mud; it likely would've ran a little worse in combat, but for being a 100 year old tank it manœuvres quite well nevertheless!

@@oogifsesm298 No, it was instrumental in ending the last German attack, the subsequent breakthroughs and return to a war of movement in 1918. well it was pretty different from it, the mark V was a heavy tank compared to the light tank that was the Renault FT, what made the Renault FT so popular among the french army is that it was easy to produce so you could deploy more of them through the whole front. So to take out light defenses the Renault FT would be better but against heavy defenses the Mark V would probably be better.

Weight doesn't matter too much. Most heavy, modern wheeled vehicles weigh more than the FT. The metal tracks digging into the concrete is what's doing the damage - partially why many modern tanks have rubber track pads instead of being all steel.

It would work as a fast mover (shock and awe tactics tank) for special forces, armed with 75mm at least and with a more powerful engine imo
It would do better with wheels instead of tracks I think, and fitting an effective gun would be difficult. Interesting idea nonetheless.
