      I feel like a big part of who gets second is going to be who wants to go all out for the deadlift event. Like Mitch has to be a favorite to win the whole show so he may not want to pull a max deadlift to kick things off.

    • @commentwarrior
      @commentwarrior 2 месяца назад +3

      @@joel5956I think Mitch has to limit damage as much as possible on every event Thor is unbeatable in order to catch him on the ohp (which might as well be not as bad by Thor as people may expect). So I suppose Mitch will have to give it all not only on the deadlift but at every event.

      No way Tom gets 1000lbs. He’s strong at deadlifts for reps in a suit but this is deadlift for max without a suit. I think he’ll top out in the low 430’s at best and in the high 420’s at worst.

    Talking about how important it is for Tom to win SMOE after winning WSM...it doesn't take anything away from his WSM win "unless" Thor wins...because Thor didn't compete in WSM for personal reasons. That being said, Liz mentioned how hard WSM is to win and mentioned Thor "only" won it once. There's should be an asterisk or side note with that comment...because Thor almost certainly would've won back to back and even threepeated if he chose to compete in 19 and 20. And IMHO, Brians SMOE show is going to take over as strongmans coveted show to win. The athletes respect him the most and he goes above and beyond to make the show athlete friendly. In Tennis, they have the 4 Grand Slam Events(Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, Aussie Open). Strongman seems to be going the same way.

    The thing with Thor is that he is way too experienced when it comes to competition and deadlifts, he knows his three numbers and won´t changue them just because someone suddendly puts "505 Kg" as a way to push him.
    - He gonna open at around 420KG
    - He gonna push over 1k pounds and quite possibly win in his second attempt
    - If he is challengued, say someone puts another 1k deadlift, then he gonna go for the third attempt and break Jerry´srecord, or if he feels fresh to do it.
    Also, bare in mind he might break Jerrý s record on his second attempt, he might do that.

      Agreed. He isn't silly. He also has Ceb picking his attempts in what is basically a powerlifting meet (for just this event). That's something a lot of other competitors have no experience with. Although I'm a Tom fan. I think Mitch is the most rounded and with these large amounts of events diversity and consistency is worth more than winning a single event. Mitch Hooper is probably the most diverse and consistent which works for him. Also he seems to have slightly better endurance than most and that will work in your favor with 16 events. Tom should be very happy to make the podium

    I think SMOE is going to take the spot for the top competition over WSM at least until Thor retires again. Thor is possibly #1 in strength in the world, give or take Tom or Mitch. Brians comp in my eyes is the comp to win if you want to be recognized as the best. Tom very well could be top 5 in the deadlift at SMOE and he could win the whole thing if he comes in top form.

  • @markevans4088

    Thanks. With Thor's OH 'weakness', I think a top athlete like Mitch, Tom or Evan who are consistent have a chance of beating him over the whole competition. And, with 16 great athletes all the top four will be pushed, even in their 'banker' events. It's a long two days!

    • @antoniocenteno1483
      @antoniocenteno1483 2 месяца назад +1

      semantics, but in the strongman case comes from the fact straps add no gain to your strenght they just take away the grip factor so you can deadlift at your top level, is a pure body strenght challengue, wereas in powerlifting deadlift is a body strenght and grip challengue.
      Plus, this records do not cross each other, so everybody happy. Win win.
