  • A quick video on how I wired up 10 corsair QL120 fans in my Lian Li O11 XL using the lighting node core and commander pro. Parts listed in the description below
    Checkout my video on how to wire it up without a commander pro: • HOW TO wire 10+ corsai...

    In this video I powered 2 of the fans up using the Corsair AIO cpu cooler. You can also use the cooler for 2 RGB slots for those fans. So if you have a setup with 8 fans total, you can get away with only using 1 lighting node core (LNC). 6 fans will go to the LNC for RGB and 2 fans will go to the AIO cpu cooler. Then 6 fans will go to the commander pro for power and the other 2 will go to the AIO cpu cooler for power.
    Once you go past 8 fans is when you will need to start adding more hardware such as the second LNC.
    Then when you go past 12 fans things will get a bit more tricky. You can only power 12 fans (with fan splitters on each port) on a commander pro (CP). So you will need to start powering any additional fans with the MB fan headers or a second CP. Then RGB wise, you will need a 3rd LNC. this can get pluged into a new CP or into the motherboard if you have any open USB headers. If you need more USB headers you can get a USB header hub for fairly cheap.

    • @DaveDoneIT
      @DaveDoneIT  3 года назад +8

      @@shaf010._ not necessarily - might make things easier but you could:
      Power all the fans via the MB fan headers. Using splitters as needed depending on how many fan headers your board has. Or just get a pwm fan hub repeater. Lots of them can do 6-8 fans on 1 motherboard header for way cheaper than the commander pro. They will just require a sata power connection like the CoPro.
      Then rgb wise instead of plugging into the CoPro usb headers, plug into the MB directly (and get usb 2.0 splitters if you need more 2.0 ports).

    I installed my 9 LL120 fans today and I’m so happy I stumbled upon this video. Man.. this is seriously the only video tutorial about 9+ Corsair fans installation worth watching, the way all connections are done is clever and for a 9 set of fans you just need x2 3-fans kits with the lightning node pro and then buy the 3 fans left separately to save money, every other video on RUclips they buy 3 kits and that’s a waste. Also I like the fact that you used fan splitters, using this method I can still take advantage of Commander Pro’s smart fan control. Corsair should hire you, really..

I could not for the life of me figure out why (first rgb build ever) and I watched about half a dozen other videos which neglected to mention this very minor but important aspect. Checkout my video on how to wire it up without a commander pro: ruclips.net/video/ECDyNCZFEo0/видео.html&t
    The commander pro (CoPro) isn't necessary. See below on how to bypass using the CoPro.
    The gist:
    FOR POWER: Instead of plugging each fan into ports 1-6 on the CoPro you could plug the fans into the motherboard fan headers directly (it will just depend on how many fan headers your MB has. Then you could add the same fan splitters to each header as needed. I would still stick with only 2 fans per header). You could also get something like this: - This will plug into one fan header on the MB and control upto 8 fans *ALL 8 fans will go the same speed with this setup*.
    The big difference here is: the commander pro will allow you to change the speed of the fans in the iCUE software. If you use the MB headers, you will do speed control in BIOS. Both are easy.
    FOR RGB CONTROL: Instead of plugging the lighting node core (LNC) into the CoPro. You can plug it directly into the MB. Most MBs seem to have 2 usb2.0 headers. If you dont have enough usb 2.0 headers you can get something like this: to get additional usb2.0 headers).
    No difference here in terms of performance. The LNC will show up in iCUE and work just like it does on the CoPro.
    The CoPro benifits are that it kind of makes things easier to wire and has some extra features you may want. Fan control without going into BIOS. You can add LED strips to it down the road. You can add temperature probes to it and place them around the case. But its not necessary to get the CoPro. Just make sure you will have enough usb 2.0 headers (or get a splitter) and make sure you will have enough fan headers on your motherboard (and add fan splitters as needed).
    If you are using 6 fans or less, I would skip the CoPro for sure. Wire up the 6 fans to the LNC (or rgb hub depending on what comes with your fans). Plug that into the MB for rgb control. Then for power, use the MB fan headers. Once you pass 6 fans - that means 2 LNCs/rgb hubs and more fan splitters - then it up to you and likely the current CoPro price if you want to get the CoPro or the USB2.0 splitter and extra fan splitters.

    This was exactly what I needed! I am building a 9 fan build in that exact same case next week. I already have all the same parts you used excepting a different model Corsair AIO. Everything has been waiting in my workshop for the case to be delivered. For the last week I have been very nervous about doing this super RGB build since I have never done one before and I had not yet found a good guide to help. After watching (and liking, subscribing to your channel and bookmarking the video) I feel confident that I can get this done.

    This shows how genius Lian Li is with their fan system that uses one set of cables for 1 set of fans. Instead of 6 cables for a set of three fans you just slide the fans onto each other, and connect the power module to one of them. They might be effin expensive but thats expected for something that still innovative. I look forward to other companies making changes to their designs and making similar or better fan systems.

    This video is fantastic you did great job ..I do have one question if you can please help me. The AIO Platinum cooler has (2) LL120 Fans and I would like to run those with (6) QL120 case fans. Is it all compatible ? Thank you kind sir.

    • @DaveDoneIT
      @DaveDoneIT  3 года назад +1

      Yeah it will all go together the same. I would probably put the 2 LL fans on the AIO rgb/power connectors vs the node/commander.
      This way those 2 fans as separated on icue from the rest.
      If you plug QL and LL into the node core. The nodes assume all fans are the same so QL - which have 2 sides of rgb (front and back). The LL only has front. So if you try patterns it gets kinda messed up with the LLs because it thinks it has 2 sides.
      If you are going for a static color it doesn't matter how you hook it up, as you will just set each led color anyway.
