LAST EVER!! CrossCountry HST in Passenger Operation | 18th September 2023

Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action! Another rememberable night occurred on the 18th September 2023 as CrossCountry has retired all its High Speed Train/Intercity 125 sets from passenger operation; but not before I took my chances at taking one last ride on one of them and what better than the set I boarded had power cars 43007 & 43008 in classic Intercity liveries from the 1980’s.
On this day, the train first did the southbound journey from Leeds to Plymouth, leaving the former at the crack of dawn and arrived at the latter in the middle of the afternoon. After that, it began the northbound journey home where I caught it at Sheffield. Arrived slightly late but came nevertheless (better than not coming at all) and boarded for the rest of the journey to Leeds via Doncaster. The only downside is that travelling in the dark, there was not much to look out of the window to see so apologies about the reflection of the carriage seats and myself because of the lighting. Anyways, the journey went smoothly to Doncaster then on the ECML to Wakefield and finally Leeds which arrived into the latter around twenty to twelve. The driver did well with the announcements as we arrived at each station and about the journey being the last for the HST.
After we arrived back into Leeds, rail enthusiasts packed up the platform at the front of the train to get their photos and we were even allowed to have a look around the cab much like how it was with the farewell tour train LNER did back in 2019. When time came, the driver gave one last blast of horn beeping before the set left Leeds for the final time. Two private rail tours that will use the HST are currently scheduled to take place on 26th from Leeds to Swanage and from Plymouth to Blackpool on 29th September. Once those are done, they will go off lease and finish operation. Hope you all enjoy this!
