    It's not just you, her voice does this to most if not all of us. I was driving this morning and Metal Kingdom popped up on shuffle and suddenly I was holding back from sobbing. What the fuck?

    ⚡ / 💙 Glad this was reposted.
    I loved all the info about the word 'hoshi".
    Definitely one of my favorites from your BABYMETAL series.
    I would be remiss if I didn't mention the wing connection with Suzuka.
    The wings in the BABYMETAL logo are generally considered to represent her, replacing the lightning bolt "S" elements on the original version of the logo.
    The second and final Karen Girl's opening theme song for the 'Zettai Karen Children' anime was 'My Wings'. ruclips.net/video/HhJB8x2f7tE/видео.html

    I'm so glad you got this back up, it was most definitely worth watching again ... and don't worry, you are not the only person effected that way by Su's voice.
    For what it's worth, probably nothing but I feel like saying it anyway, 'Amore' is my own favourite Su-metal solo for whatever reason.

    I still remember the last night of 2020, when NHK broadcast ENDLESS RAIN, all the comments became OMG OMG OMG... After that I have been looking forward to someone react to it.

    • @AndrewHartley
      @AndrewHartley  3 года назад +1

      I actually did a reaction to it, but it was immediately blocked by NHK who are, it seems, even more vigilant about this stuff than music companies like Amuse.

    Another wonderful video, thank you. As always, your breakdown of the song and the words taught me things I didn't realize or have knowledge of.
    Just so you know, Zimmer's channel likely got removed because he/she was reported to Amuse by some disgruntled fans that were annoyed at the fact that he was issuing copyright strikes on reactors that used his videos. Basically shot himself/herself in the foot on that one.
    In the future, if you want some videos to use on your channel, I made a Babymetal Reactor Resource channel that has quite a bit of live performances (not compilations) that I applied a transparent logo to. All of them would never be able to be posted but the logo, so far, has allowed reactors to use them without any blocks. You are welcome to use anything you'd like for your videos, and I don't need any credit. It's just my way of trying to give back to the community, and hopefully allow people to enjoy some of the best, imo, performances of Babymetal's songs.

    On the wings, just remark that it is not new from this song. They have always associated Su with the wings, Babymetal logo's skull and heart are Yui and Moa (also on their Sakura Gakuin badges), but the wings are Su's; probably inspired in _My Wings_ from Karen Girls as both designs are really, really, really similar. We also see the wings in a lot of Kamishibais, think of that one when her wings are burning before Akatsuki at Legend 1997 for example. But that, wings is Su's trademark.
    And yeah I think the song speaks of Love. Not the love between persons, but the "big love". Yes christians use the big love in their philosophy, but it is a concept that surpass them, it is humanity owned. It is also very in-lore. Su is the metal messiah and is saving the world, so that's a reason why she might be using love. An echo to the cool imagery of christian mythology in a japanese way. Actually I'm just reading the lyrics and I realized that they don't write 愛, it is Amore in romaji. An emphasis that it is the other love, maybe even western.
    In the end, I think the meaning of the song is this: Su is up there orbiting the blue star flapping her wings as the metal messiah and saving all of us shooting the Love to the earth. _Ai yo chikyuu o sukue!_ Tokyo Dome's performance, being the only song performed fully on the upper floor at Red Night, might be a metaphor to that.
    Dude this song is so good.

      In addition, it is a pity what happened with the Kohaku video, it must be a pain in the ass to deal with the copyright stuff. Some of us would be happy to watch it if you upload it elsewhere, a google drive or something.
      Watching Moa singing to Brian May riffs or Su hand to hand to LiSA made me very emotional too, it is the image of success of our girls, and how this lovely and humble girls keep achieving dreams it is something really beautiful.

    A "select audience" - nice way of putting it. That's one of those rather ambiguous adjectives like "special" or even "unique". I like that "unique" can be ambiguous.
    I always took the wings to be a reference to the Su winged element in the BM logo and ultimately back to Karen Girls', "My Wings".
    Also the girl in the painting at 34:46 looks a lot like Maggie Gyllenhaal.

  • @16ken61
    @16ken61 3 года назад +2

    I am very happy to feel your strong love for BM.
    By the way, we Japanese also use the spoken style and the literary style properly, but I feel that the lyrics of this song have a slightly stronger aspect of literary style expression. Therefore, it sounds a little more mature and dignified than the lyrics of other BM songs up to 2016. Of course, it goes without saying that it fits perfectly with the melody of this song. And above all, Su's voice! (In addition, choreography and facial expressions). Everyone will be knocked out.
    Professor Hartley, my English listening ability is low, but it seems that I can understand your lecture (although not completely) because it is a story of my favorite BM. We are looking forward to your wonderful lectures.

    So Su-metal, once crucified on stage so she could be our metal messia, has now officialy announced to mankind that she is here to spread her wings and deliver universal love even to the remotest corner of the planet. Once she has succeeded, greed and hate and all the evils coming from these two will be gone.
    Now I know perfectly well that Babymetal is basically some kind of theatre. However, I want to believe that this message gets real in some form. With the world coming apart at the seams in so many ways, we need Su-metal to tell us "It's going to be okay, all right?" (Another song, I know) That's why we love her and get misty eyes at the sound of her voice.
    If any of the above sounded sarcastic: That wasn't my intention.
    As always, professor, thank you for sharing your analytic abilities - or rather their results - with us. I am sure everybody in here apreciates your work. I am very sure that I do.

    You are totally right; what you do is _not_ reaction videos. It is far better and more valuable.
    I found out about reactions a few years back. And it was a nice thing.
    But when I looked up the latest this weekend I realised just how vacuous they can be. I'll not go into that at depth; it's self-evident.
    But how to make people see this? Or make what you do instead viable commercially? Tricky.
    Completely 100% seriously, have you ever taken the idea of doing these to mainstream broadcasters?

    • @AndrewHartley
      @AndrewHartley  3 года назад

      Thanks, that's very generous of you! Realistically though, I suspect my kind of approach will only ever appeal to a small number of people while the lighter reactions can please anyone who likes to say other people endorse their taste! Especially when they go in (or pretend convincingly to go in) skeptical but get converted on camera! It's nice to see people moved by the things that move us. But for me, a little of that goes a long way. I'll keep my smaller but more invested audience :)

      @@AndrewHartleyI certainly hear you. And in the end it's usually mass-apeal that wins out; you are right. But it wasn't so many years ago that shows about amateur cooking, or poeople "just doing stuff in southern counties" or random invention ideas, or even mainstream science concepts seemnled like pretty odd things to put on air.
      I regularly watch a show about an ex-politician following train journeys from a 1930s guide book. It's pretty good, actualy.
