Fraser.. at about 4:38 you thought she said "I'm always here to, uh *shrugs shoulder*" nope. she said "I'm always here too, aren't I ?" she has a very specific UK regional accent, that you didn't quite understand :P
I don't mind the Girl's Club thing. I don't especially love it, but I think it's smart that they're marketing to the "girly girl" demographic, too. Quite frankly, if I hadn't told someone like my friend (who is a stereotypical girly girl) that the 3DS has plenty of cute games, she never would have bought her (pearl pink) 3DS, because she always thought video games were more of a guy thing, and thought I was a tomboy for playing them. So the marketing strategy... not a great idea, but not horrible, either. Also, to everyone saying "How offensive! It's not like ALL girls like fashion and cute things and pink!" I would like to ask you, do all GUYS like explosions and army trucks and guns? Because there are plenty of commercials marketed at male gamers that highlight those things specifically as "dude stuff".
When she makes that weird noise that sounds like "I'm always here too, to uh.." She actually says, "I'm always here too, aren't ah?" Which means I. Helps having UK viewers to help the slang. 😁
@farfromsubtle her name is jorgie porter, she's a soap opera star for the north west so she has a broad accent... She said earlier something like 'I'm always here, aren't i?' Where you thought she was making some random noise haha
I predicted that Nintendo would start marketing specifically to women back when they unveiled Rosalina for Smash Bros. 4. It made sense, seeing as after the Gamecube's "failure" they started marketing to families and the elderly to expand their demographics. WiiU underperforming, the marketing demographics expand. It's simple. However, I gave Nintendo a lot more credit than this! I assumed it would be a positive thing that helps bridge the almost-completely-closed-but-still-not-entirely-finished gender gap for video games and help remove the stigma towards video games surrounding sexism that still exists within the culture. I predicted it would simply be...I dunno, more strong, female characters in first party titles. Not "OMG LUIGI IS SO CUTE!!! PINK 3DS!"
Rosalina has nothing to do with marketing to girls.... It's a fitting and interesting character for an all-star fighting game. And nintendo isn't responsible for who is in, Sakurai is. This is just odd though
MistahJuicyBoy Well, it was just a theory that Nintendo would be moving in that direction in terms of marketing. However, I'm going out on a limb and guessing that Nintendo higher-ups have a pretty big say in who makes it in the game and who doesn't, and could probably request a greater percentage of female fighters if they wanted. Sakurai, as a developer, has a pretty big say, but as this is one of the most important titles in the WiiU's entire launch, which is also an underperforming console by Nintendo's standards. I'm guessing he has some pressure from Nintendo's higher ups to make sure it goes smoothly. My main theory is that the roster so far seems to be based on advertising. Nearly every veteran unveiling has corresponded with a game coming soon in their series. And crossover games are usually made specifically for promotion. Rosalina is NOT a fitting or interesting character in any regard. She was a glorified mission select screen in Mario Galaxy. Her character design is a boring pallete swap of Princess Peach and her moveset seems to be simply taken from the abandoned concepts for Smash Bros. Brawl with the scrapped Plusle and Minun combo fighter. She's from an over-represented franchise in the series (Mario characters make up a 4th of the characters in the entire series) and it's been theorized by others she's only in it to promote a future Mario Galaxy 3. There's nothing fresh or original about her. She's been in Mario Kart and had ONE action role as an unlockable character in 3D World after the game was already beaten. There's no reason for her to be in this game when so many other characters are more deserving and slots so limited (Sakurai has claimed that 4 will have the same fighter amount as Brawl, so past fighters WILL be dropped) My theory (and it is just a theory) is that Nintendo is grooming her to be a more active and action-packed female hero to market to a female audience, which was responsible for her inclusion in 3D world and this game. It's also why, I'm guessing, they included Wii Fit trainer and the leaked-but-currently-unannounced Palutena.
Nope, Sakurai said himself that the only characters that will get in, are ones he has a vision for. She's amazingly fitting for smash, really unique, I don't see where you're coming from. Wii fit trainer wasn't something people wanted, it's what Sakurai thought would be fun, surprising, and interesting. We don't want 10 new fox clones mucking about. - I can tell you're bsing, because plusle minun was never even designed. The only evidence we have for that, is a placeholder text in the game; there is no way you know its can guess its movesets. - It is not based on advertising, it's just what he chooses to reveal because it's fitting. All of the characters have been designed. He can put them out how he pleases (might as well put them out with their game to hype both, what's wrong with that?) - What characters should be in? Will they be unique? Will Sakurai implement them correctly? How do you know they aren't in already? The game isn't out. - He never said character count will be the same as smash, he said there will be less new fighters, and some will drop. He doesn't want it to have as many new characters as smash. It was mistranslated, - Sakurai has complete control over what goes into the game. Nintendo execs don't know about how to make games (other than Miyamoto for obvious reasons), it's their game studios that do. The Mario, Zelda, etc studios aren't working on this. You have Sora, and Namco Bandai. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_development_teams. Name where you see other teams that are working on the project. - People have always denounced smash for having next to no female fighters. Look at street fighter, look at mortal kombat, etc.
4:20 - She said "I know that might sound like a lot of responsibility, but don't worry 'cause you'll have plenty of help from loads of new friends along the way. And don't forget I'm always here too, aren't I?" Oh, dirty minded Fraser... :P
lol, Fraiser, American Girl isn't new. When I was a little girl I subscribed to their magazine and I'm 26 now. They've been around for at least a couple of decades.
If I was still in high school i'd never let myself be seen with a 3ds anymore. my school was full of people that would from this point on rip the ever loving shit out of me for now owning a "Girl's console"
Special bulletin from the UK: "We have no idea who that woman is." All jokes aside, I'm glad that marketing directly to women may now become part of the norm.
You could say the same thing about Nintendo advertising that features male gamers playing games. Their advertising has never really depicted how gamers really play.
This isn't for the hardcore, like us. It's for casuals - and do you know why Call of Duty and FIFA have such casual reputations? Because men everywhere pick them up, hardcore gamers or no. Same for the girls and a lot of these games.
Stereotypical advertising or not I can't deny it...the Soap Actress' "room" and her second outfit are awfully cute. But the constant barrage of 'you're a girl you must like cute' is really grating. Also on the note of American Girl I'm surprised to hear it's gotten to the popularity level of, say, Build-a-Bear. I remember it being fairly popular in the 90s back when I was a kid but back then it was because of the line of Historic dolls that each had their own backstory and even small book series (Addy, Molly, Felicity, Josefina etc). There was always the option of getting your own custom doll but the previously mentioned were the cash cows for the longest time. I heard they've been slowly dropping those girls though, which is personally sad to hear. From what I see they've been replacing them with more modern 'quirky' girls. For a girl who was a fan of the brand, I just hope they still have that non-patronizing 'girls are strong and can do some awesome shit' message to them :1
They're getting rid of the books?? But since I was super broke as a kid that was the only thing I really got into because it was all I could afford. :( And I learned stuff about history too!
BrightBlueInk I don't know about the books but doll wise I know they've dropped Samantha, Molly, Felicity and Kirsten (they still have some historic dolls still being sold though). I'd assume they'd remove the books as well from their shop though But I feel you (personally I just liked looking at the things in the magazine rather than buying anything myself ahaha), the books and their subjects were what I loved the most from the product. Kind of disappointed to see it's losing its roots and now more of 'see this girl? She can do *~art~*' whoopty fucking do.
i think those Am. Girl Dolls have been around for a while and they're fucking pricey. also they look like rinky-dink old-old-school creepy dolls like from the 60s or smthng. for some reason it's now a prestige thing for little girls...one of those socio-cultural phases i guess, like certain brand attire, and then 6 months later it's all passé.
This is some of the most offensive advertising I've ever seen from Nintendo because the way they show this just so frustrating I can't even put it into words.
This is doing well to cater to the girly-girl demographic that Nintendo have a lot of games to cater for, and not enough awareness they exist. Perhaps they should have something for the hardcore female gamer as well - especially since women are generally very amenable to peer pressure - moreso than men (who are pretty damn vulnerable to it as-is)
So basically this is what Nintendo thinks of girl gamers? That we are so stupid we can't handle games of a higher caliber than a shitty phone app or N64 repeats? Given the ridiculously stereotypical gender role focus of the games i'm surprised they didn't have a game called barefoot and pregnant or making husbands dinner.
N64 repeats? I like N64 but anyways this stupid stereotypical shit is because of people and I'm leaving it at that. Thank god you see this and don't buy into it. Btw like the other guy said that sounds gross and horrible.
BlackKanye Well let's be fair. I think we would all play "Barefoot and Pregnant Mama" just to see what it was. GOTY if they changed it to "Barefoot and Pregnant Papa"
Please list me some 3DS games that Nintendo should be advertising to girl gamers. I personally think Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion, and Animal Crossing are great titles that everyone can enjoy, but apparently they aren't high enough caliber for you. Oh and to me these ads are targeted towards girls. Not girl gamers. They are trying to get girly girls interested in games. Girl gamers like Becky for instance are already sold customers. Their general marketing has already worked on them.
How about a new Metroid game? Capitalize on Samus being female and dive into the character abit more. Maybe add a fellow male solider whom battles alongside her and slowly becomes a love interest until a final battle in which they sacrifice themselves to save one another for a bittersweet ending. Why not a new game in the Starfox universe with a Female main character and maybe even multiplayer? How many Disney princesses does Nintendo have access to to go on adventures with? I am usually the first one to call out feminism as 90% bullshit propaganda but at the same time doesn't anyone find this ad campaign demeaning toward women? Lol girls we will get a couple of women who have never touched a video game in their lives to tell you how you should view keeping your body to a perceived standard as a game. And how dressing pretty should be your ultimate goal in life...
I'm sure girls will hate this as much as I hate when advertisers go: "guys look guns, explosions, huge titties" fuck off. However, just as there are people that hate it, I'm sure there will be people that enjoy it.
This entire ad campaign is so ridiculously condescending, I'm in shock. This is supposed to get girls into gaming? By making them all out to be vapid, innocent creatures who absolutely shun any notion of action or violence? News flash- it's the 21st century. Girls swear, enjoy sex, and- get this- have interests beyond cooking and shopping. If you want to know the true reason why more girls (and really, people in general) don't get into gaming, it's the skill barrier. A lot of girls don't touch games because they feel they aren't skilled enough to play them, and hence don't even give video games a chance. To fix this, I implore you dudes out there to sit down with a non-gaming gal and walk her through a game, patiently and positively. Whether it be a friend, a sister, or your significant other, just give them the controller for a bit. Who knows, she might really get into it. That's what's going to get more girls into gaming- not some sexist ad marketing campaign.
This seems more target towards casual and non-gamers than anyone else. Also most of the games on there weren't necessarily "girly" games. It's certainly not a good campaign though. It feels generic and Nintendo should be able to do better.
First off I don't understand where Nintendo is coming from with this pink 3DS, Animal Crossing, Art and shopping crap is suppose to make girls more interested. If a girl hasn't picked up a game yet she isn't going to and marketing to her with this weak ass crap is definitely not going to work. I've been playing games for 27 years of my life and I've never once grabbed a game because it was pink, cute or featured artistic shit, shopping or some damn animals. Its insulting Nintendo, like you don't think us girls (and women) have anything else on the brain but that week as stereotypical crap. I like to blow things up, I like to do steal missions, I like saving the princess (cause the bitch needs my help) and I don't mind saving the worthless "male" damsel either. I like games because they are fun not because it's cute, pink or all sparkling... my God can we please get over this crap in 2014? Aren't we all just humans? Lets market to the Gamer not the gender/nationality/sexual preference/religion and so on! That is all! *grumble*
Thankfully this isn't Nintendo as a whole, but instead just a Nintendo UK thing. But still man, this is awful. AI find that this kinda marketing only works to alienate rather than promote, which is you know, what marketing is supposed to fucking do! Gahd!
oidisco i guess i can understand this kind of stuff, i have a younger sister who buys into this kind of advertising. but seriously unless they're marketing to 3rd-5th graders, this is bullshit
1OMEGA111 Ask women, not feminists. I would doubt that a marketing scheme like this would even be approved unless it was surefire. But then again, I'm no marketing buff...
***** considering the fuck-ups nintendo has been making with wii u advertising, i wouldn't be surprised to find out that this isn't a surefire thing but was approved anyway.
I like how when I did a search for that first hosting girl, the first hit I got was a topless calendar. You go Nintendo!
but her acting in this!
Fraser.. at about 4:38 you thought she said "I'm always here to, uh *shrugs shoulder*" nope. she said "I'm always here too, aren't I ?" she has a very specific UK regional accent, that you didn't quite understand :P

Exactly. I may play shooter games but, I love playing Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros.
(I'm a little bit late saying this but) Congratulations you guys on reaching 300k subs! Keep up the good work!
well, here's the weird thing about that Jorgie girl: she looks like a teenager, but she's really 26
i do love jorgie though!
I think she said " I'm always here to, aren't i"
What is that noise that Deacon makes at 4:33? 😂
Tom Nook is actually a tanooki not a racoon, although they are very similar animals.
Wtf at first I thought that blonde girl was a teenager. Google image search Jorgie Porter. No wonder Mario was lurking behind the curtains.
When she makes that weird noise that sounds like "I'm always here too, to uh.." She actually says, "I'm always here too, aren't ah?" Which means I. Helps having UK viewers to help the slang. 😁

use the "+" to talk to someone directly instead of @
for example ***** hello.
hay I remember when thay did minecraft stuff yay that was so fun
Theresa McQueen from Hollyoaks, what u doing advertising Nintendo?

Love Becky's face when fashion style boutique or whatever pops up. Same.
5:21 I agree with Becky's facial expression. That was a really weird line delivery. "You can visit them too..?"
yeah, I had an american girl doll and I remember my poor dad dropping more money than he should of on those crazy expensive accessories.
4:20 - She said "I know that might sound like a lot of responsibility, but don't worry 'cause you'll have plenty of help from loads of new friends along the way. And don't forget I'm always here too, aren't I?"

Nintendo not getting Zelda Williams back to do an ad where she dressed as Sheik.
bad form Nintendo.
Nintendo girls club is the UK's punishment for not buying nintendo products.
If I was still in high school i'd never let myself be seen with a 3ds anymore. my school was full of people that would from this point on rip the ever loving shit out of me for now owning a "Girl's console"
YES HE IS! Weegee is adorable!
Special bulletin from the UK:
"We have no idea who that woman is."
All jokes aside, I'm glad that marketing directly to women may now become part of the norm.
1:33 Becky already has an idea of what's to come
9:52 You can actually pinpoint the second the Becky's heart rips in half
The lego girl thing looks kind of cool and I'm a boy.
why is the nintendo girl club...british?..
because its a British commercial....for Britain.
replygif.net/i/714.gif
@8:43 yeah, that new thing the kids are in to these days!
Her accent is a Manchester accent
YAY art academy!
After watching these adverts I wanna make my own advert showing how real women play games XD
You could say the same thing about Nintendo advertising that features male gamers playing games. Their advertising has never really depicted how gamers really play.

Im sure shes a very nice person'' Beaky looks down the camera, well funny
She says, 'I'm always here too, aren't I'. British talk, y'know.
Stereotypical advertising or not I can't deny it...the Soap Actress' "room" and her second outfit are awfully cute. But the constant barrage of 'you're a girl you must like cute' is really grating.

Her voice... it's like she's FORCING it to sound breathy super hard. I can't listen >>
Ben's Shirt Looks like a Vietnam Flag. Also when I saw the Nintendo Girls Club, I Think of NintendoFangirl.
She says I'm always here too aren't I. Lol
Well......... this was sort of awkward.
i think those Am.
Nintendo Girls Club. 2013 WAS THE YEAR NINTENDO GAVE UP?!?!?!?!?!
*2014
7:22
Luigi gets all the ladies even more than Mario.
I demand a Nintendo Girl Club for Boys.
So a Nintendo Boys Club?
Play bf4 OH WAIT
I miss the gang.
This is some of the most offensive advertising I've ever seen from Nintendo because the way they show this just so frustrating I can't even put it into words.
Jorgie Porter :)

PINK 3DS
So basically this is what Nintendo thinks of girl gamers?
That we are so stupid we can't handle games of a higher caliber than a shitty phone app or N64 repeats?
Given the ridiculously stereotypical gender role focus of the games i'm surprised they didn't have a game called barefoot and pregnant or making husbands dinner.
Well... Cooking Mama is a thing...
"Barefoot and Pregnant Mama" sounds horrible.
N64 repeats? I like N64 but anyways this stupid stereotypical shit is because of people and I'm leaving it at that. Thank god you see this and don't buy into it. Btw like the other guy said that sounds gross and horrible.
BlackKanye
Well let's be fair. I think we would all play "Barefoot and Pregnant Mama" just to see what it was. GOTY if they changed it to "Barefoot and Pregnant Papa"

Pfft, Becky. Just quietly, "I'm a girl..."
She ain't famous in the UK
Well, she sort of is. Not A-list or anything, but she's in Hollyoaks.
girl legos? what the fuck
I'm sure girls will hate this as much as I hate when advertisers go: "guys look guns, explosions, huge titties" fuck off. However, just as there are people that hate it, I'm sure there will be people that enjoy it.
I'm sold on the "guys look" stuff.
It's pretty offensive to me, being a huge fan of New Leaf, and it being labeled as a "girl's game".
Please do RUclips poop, fraser!

Nintendo always targets the wrong audience
I saw a GIF of part 2:04 of the video that nearly made me pee myself laughing.

I thought that'd be... the video - not badly-drawn-unkempt-pubes-newhalf!Peach.
Forgive me.
What the fuck...? 0___o
Nintendo, I love you.
But don't do that.
Women are not all like that.
Please, Nintendo.
Let me love you.

*grumble*
i LOVE nintendo, but this girls club just pisses me off, thank got it just a UK thing.... i think...i hope.
Lol girls dont play vidya games silly nintendo
Damn nintendo...... you fucked up, what the hell is wrong with their marketing/pr?
