So I’ve been working on my C70 rig and I found the mic clamp that comes with the C70 works better than the small rig one because you can attach it to the top handle with 2 screws. Give it a shot, it stopped the drooping for me ☺️
Very cool rig configuration. My run and gun rig consist of the Zacuto C70 cage, a Portkeys 7inch monitor with Mars video transmitter power hub and Sigma art 18-35 lens. I rig it a lot differently when it is living on the Ronin 2. Mounted on the Ronin 2 the C70 is an all day workhorse. The only slight hang up is securing the HDMI to SDI converter but other than that it’s very streamlined.
Nice video. Enjoy your style and appreciate that you filmed the build out. We empathize with some of the small difficulties you had! We are using Zacuto Z-finder and Zacuto cage on our C70s. We shoot wildlife so always outside, and have found that Ninja V, Shinobi not bright enough for all situations (like bright sunlight on snow). The Zacuto solution lacks a good method to attach the 15mm rails - which we use for telephoto lenses. Right now using Shape or Kondor Blue baseplates attached to Zacuto cage but they are pretty heavy. Picked up a SmallRig baseplate through your link. Also sub’d so looking forward to more of your content. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Currently rigging out my R6 for the first time as I’m asked to create more video content despite being a photographer… so definitely appreciate this video and it’s timing. Also quick note, hot or cold just implies the use of electricity in either the mount or the shoe. So your small rig cage would add cold shoes and your body would normally have a hot shoe because it has electronic parts on it.
Just a warning... That top handle / top mount will start to wiggle and loosen up. I really like how the small rig C70 setup looks, but there really needs to be more than one point of contact for that handle if you're rigging it out with a large cinema lens and big battery.
Hey nice video. When i plugged the Dtap to Dc cable from the V mount to my C70 nothing happened. After the third try the camera was powered up but later didn't. Do you know why that is?
Have you considered putting the v mount batteries up to the back of the camera? Doesn’t seem to make sense to have it so far back. It would be much more compact and you might want to think about a nice long plate underneath that small rig baseplate. I’ve found with things pointlessly stretched out longer than they need to be make for less of an enjoyable experience operating. Plus than you have rails in the front for lens support, follow focus, etc... you have such long rails not being used.
Very nice, I like that you left in the parts where you struggled fit the parts - anyone who's built a rig can identify with that! Question: what are your thoughts or concerns of the stress on the camera body with the extra weight when holding the top handle? I've built a shoulder rig with the Kondor Blue "cage" (it's just a top and bottom plate, not connected) and I worry that I might be doing damage to the camera.
If you added a matte box then it would look even cooler. Plus then you could drop in filters. I have found that the filters (the good ones) can get super expensive tho
I have one! But it just makes the whole thing too clunky. Probably would only use it in interview settings. And screw the filter lol 😂 , not paying for those when I got the built-in NDs for this thing. Thanks for watching Chris.
4:24 - you can turn the mic holder upside down to make room for your monitor ;) Great video, having a larger battery on the back can work wonders on long shoots 😁
I actually tried that, and it totally worked! But then I added my matte box (not shown in this video), and it obstructs the microphone lol 🤦🏿♂️ Thanks for watching man!
You could get away with flipping the monitor out > sliding the rods and battery forward> and add a matte box with french flag. Depending on the matte box you can have drop in filters like CPL, Diffusion, anamorphic streaks, etc. I used the polar pro Basecamp but tilta and smallrig have them as well
*furiously takes notes* Definitely been looking at different ways to configure this set up. Haven’t yet considered the french flag 🤔 Right now I have the smallrig matte box to fill in until I’m able to get my hands on the base camp. Can’t wait to get my hands on that and experiment with those filters.
@@TristanErvin it’s a scary and strange addiction lmao most of the time I’m stripped down run and gun. But when it’s time i clean up nicely lol #GeekSpeak
Just realized that just about EVERYTHING I used to build this comes from SmallRig.
Hey SmallRig, how about a sponsorship? 😜

Thanks for the great video! I just bought a C70 and essentially just copied your rig...you definitely deserve a sponsorship from SmallRig!
Great stuff man! Thanks!
The rig is coming together!! 😊 The extra weight is great for handheld work
awesome rig! great job!

@@TristanErvin 😂😂😂 I’ve heard that one before! … mostly from myself! 😂😂
Fire video as always
Preciate you Bobby!
That’s a dope setup!

Thanks Hieth!!
Cool, but every time that Rode bobs up and down my OCD triggers. Won't be able to sleep tonight.
I have a Canon 5D mark iii on an small rig cage with a free world monitor 👍🏽

The next Peter McKinnon! 🙌
Haha, maybe
Looking forward to a new vid Tristan! Hope you are doing well.
How long is the battery from the v Mount last? My tip for you is to eventually get shorter cables for a cleaner look

😱 oh so we just throwing camera gear now? 🤣🤣
Practicing minimalism 😂
you can use the mic holder that comes with the camera and save $49 :)

Nice. How much does all this weigh? Y’all got to hit the gym these days to be professional film maker. Lol
These days? Cameras weight like nothing compared to what they used to!
No intro?
Uh for what lol
