Almost every country around the world has its own ‘stylistic’ culture. Among other features, nothing like dancing, or better yet ‘folk/traditional dancing’ that truly reflects historical and traditional culture.
Egypt is recognized worldwide by its pyramids, historical monuments and of course its folk dance ‘some like to call it belly dancing’.
What we are presenting in this video is not the erotic belly dance that many tourists crave for. But we are featuring the traditional folk dance of Egypt by one of the prominent groups performing that art in Egypt right now, namely ‘SOHAG’ folk dance group.
Sohag’s performance was filmed in December 2019 at El-Hagaag open plaza in Luxor. At the background of the plaza, we could see/enjoy the colossal colonnade of the amazing ‘Luxor Temple of Ramses II’

I can't describe how glad I am to find an accurate representation of belly dancing. The modern day belly dancers are mostly European white women who stole our culture and the dance got sexualized. These girls killed it, and they also wore the traditional Saidi Egyptian clothes. I love everything about this vid.
Thank you Fatemah Hatem for the nice & wise comment. It is one of the best I got so far. Actually this was a scene in a documentary about traditional ( Saidi) belly dance, but the Covid 19 pandemic has put the project on hold.
Had they donned the so called traditional belly dance costumes, they'd have been arrested in Upper Egypt. Been there. I know that's true. Edit: as an after thought no one in Egypt cares about the ancient culture or antiquities. That's just how it is.
@@AshrafEzzat When and where is the documentary going to come out?
@@EgyptianDarling Hello there. Hopefully this summer. Thank you for your interest ... Kindly consider subscribing to the channel to keep updated with my upcoming videos & documentaries.
yeeeess!!!! I'm from America, and the whole dance is has been so pornified. The women (it's always women) wear the most skimpy outfits they can find and make it 'Sexy Back'. As I understand it, the dance was a folk dance, done historically in village locations. It was a community event, not a strip club. Seeing how the people who created this style of folk dance didn't die out, that means there were children there. I don't think scantily clad women would have danced seductively for all the men in front of their young children...the folk dance is so much better than the west's sexy dance!
I love how this belly dancing is properly represented. It looks so artfully done not sexualized the way it is expressed in the movies. The hand movements are so graceful.
Kindly share the video.
The real and original belly dance 💃 now everyone seems what’s to claim this art from Indians to South Americans but no one can beet the creators
When claim that this is Indian art they're sought of partially right. In Egypt,.this dance is usually associated with the Dom people just like the Roma people of Europe have their origin in ancient India.
I can imagine thousands of years ago how during festivals the music and the people would be dancing in the streets like this.
You are perfectly correct! Holidays to Hathor would be celebrated!
and using the same musical instruments too
@@waeleldanbouky6920 Such a beautiful art form.
That's not the actual traditional dancing for Egyptians though 😅
Belly dancing the way we know today is made by a mixture of greeks moves and so and Arabian. You can research cuz I can't really remember the exact info sorry.
@@abdul.rahman8552It is, lol. Belly dancing originated in Ancient Egypt. Why did you feel the need to share your opinion when you didn't actually go learn about it? You can start with a quick Wikipedia read. Cheers...
this has been the only video of belly dancing i’ve been able to find thats not sexualized to hell and back, it really is such a beautiful art i’m glad i was able to see a video of it for how it’s supposed to be traditionally:]

@@bigboybeni soy otra argentina que también adora la cultura egipcia. qué lindo saber que hay gente que siente lo mismo por nuestra cultura latina!
While more revealing dance costumes have their place too, I love seeing belly dancers dressed in more traditional and less revealing style! And they all look like they're having a blast, both the dancers and the musicians.
They are indeed. Kindly share the video.😍
My favorite video of this . I’m so happy to see my people get proper representation when it comes to our culture that’s been sexualised. I love everything about this and looking forward to the documentary .
I find belly dancing to be unbelievably cool and beautiful. It's crazy how much control these dancers have over parts of their body! God bless 💓
I love how the musicians dance with them and play so compellingly.
This is how it should be .. Ancient and Beautiful ❤️
This is thé beautiful and original belly dancing. The true one done by original people. Love Egypte 💕💕💕💕
❤❤❤❤
I just stumbled upon this video and I've been reading other comments about how they've finally found a bellydancing performance that is not sexualised...and I agree!
Belly dancing or raqs baladi has this bizarre reputation for being a sexualised dance...when it's not! and you can argue that a good belly dancer is one who can perform without the reinforced sexualisation that is witnessed in many contemporary belly dancing performances.
Referring also to the legendary styles of Samia Gamal, Tahia Karioka and even Kitty Foutsaki, although yes the dance can be sensual, yet they still maintained grace and dignity during their timeless performances.
I have to say thank you so much for this video, I am from Africa, Mozambique is my country. Unfortunately I see a lot of miss representation about dances from Africa. This gives me a bit of faith. Everything now is so fusion that becomes confusion or is so sexualised that unfortunately the dances loses the purpose in the main stream because everything is about showbiz, and sell, and make money and not to show the culture (how it really is). Africans in my belief have to find a way to modernize yes but keep at the same time the aesthetics of the dance movements, the purpose, the culture and the background history. For that has to do with the teachers but also the performers. We have to be careful when we start to change so much the dances, especially when they are coming from folk or traditional concepts.
Thank you Pynksy Shell, for your insightful comment. As an African myself, I share your views about our ancient traditions. Indeed we must keep them ( especially music & folk dance) alive & intact in such a modern/monetized world.
Belly dance is not only from Africa!!!
@@rosedudesert4389 we know its also from west asia
@@rosedudesert4389 true but I believe it originated from there. This video was showing part of traditional Egyptian culture.
@@breebreeturner Bellydance originated mostly from Mesopotamia, therefore Asia not Africa 🤔
And it's not regarded as a type of African dance either, that's why it's called oriental dance or arabic dance, not african dance‼️
Now this is what I wanted to see-- real representation
Thank you ... Kindly share the video.

I really wish the camera person had zoomed out once in a while to show the whole group dancing so we could see the formations in the choreography. Beautiful dancing, disappointing camera work.
I practice Hula and Tahitian dance which helped me Segway into Belly dance, I studied the names of the movements and found what real belly dance looks like. I’m a much bigger fan of the older styles as opposed to the new watered down stuff I used to practice.

Thanks for the education on how the traditional Egyptian belly dance looks like. I been belly dancing since I was little but stoped cause I don’t want to receive hate from anyone. And did my research on how the dance really is. I’m Macedonian/American btw.
as long as you do it respectfully i don't see the problem..? dont do it in a mocking way and i don't see why ppl wouldn't send hate

This looks so fun in this context. I generally have only seen belly dance meant for the stage, like Kira Lebedeva or Yana Yamana, and they were obviously heavily modified for their audience as well. It's hard to find dances that are actually from Egypt, etc, when you don't know Arabic or Farsi because googling "Traditional Egyptian Belly Dance" just brings up random folks dancing "Traditional Egyptian Belly Dance". I guess the folks who post videos in English are usually folks who speak primarily English as well, which makes videos like this one rarer. There's a certain rustic simplicity to this video that has its own effects which are different from the modified versions for the stage. Thanks for posting!
The look so beautiful 😻 so much grace and their movements just flow

Glad you like it. Kindly share the video.
I'm a young guy from the west, but am so glad to see this traditional belly dance! Many of the other videos are so sexualised, it doesn't really speak to culture and history of this people. This is much more interesting!
아름다운 댄스를 감상하며 즐거운 시간입니다.
감사합니다.
This is the way I danced. Back in the day. To that sort of music. And I loved it. It made me feel happy.
I can feel the energy through my phone!! Wow
I think I've just found authentic Egyptian belly dance video. ❤🇧🇩
That mijwiz is so beautiful. Middle eastern sound is so intoxicating the dancers are enchanting mashallah 🧿
Egypt is considered apart of the Middle East bc Arabs colonized it, this is not middle eastern culture, this is OG Egyptian culture
No not Middle Eastern that don't exist, it's not a continent, you must be American since you don't know geography. This is from north Africa not Middle East a term that was made in the 1930s by British & Zionists ppl that invaded Palestine. This term should be taken out of our vocabulary.
Egypt is North African.
Egyptian only🇪🇬🇪🇬
Thanks!
Egyptian dance🇪🇬❤❤
This is why belly dancing is FAR BETTER to watch on RUclips MUCH MORE than twerking!! Belly Dancing is NOT overly sexualized, not like in the movies or other types of media but as a form of dance that helps a woman embrace her feminity and sexuality!!
The main purpose of the dance traditionally was to prepare pregnant women for labour and men were forbiden from attending belly dancing events.
dont know why I got emotional!! the sound the dance the passion the heart ❤the history
Kindly share the video.
This dancing is amazing and I have found the comments very enlightening. I realise that what I have seen of belly dancing so far is apparently inauthentic and over sexualised, so thankyou very much for the education. My only sorrow is that I don't see many female faces in the audience. P.S I am really enjoying the music and singing too. I love the way the musicians are dancing too. The dance seems to be a visual interpretation of the music rather than a display to inspire sexual feelings.
There is however an entire row of elderly women sitting at the first line and looking very happy.
So gracefully performed👏👏👏Now this is what I called a genuine belly dance performance...
Really nice with men participation too
I have been looking for YEARS for video of authentic belly dance. Everything out there is "tribal fusion" with barely dressed women undulating like snakes. I've always wanted to learn tribal dance, but want to do it in a honorable and respectful manner.
What amazing energy! 💯🙌🏾👏🏼
This is real belly dance, amazing ❤️
I’m a 41 Mexican man grown up in Los Angeles, finding my self having a crush on an Egyptian woman and I’m learning as much as I can and this video is awesome nothing like a happy representation of cultures.

not only the dance but the music is enchanting!
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!😭❤❤❤
amazing music, clothes and dance!! i love egyptian culture♥️
I grew up around belly dancers that honored the traditional style, and was absolutely heartbroken to find how much modern takes on belly dancing are so sexualized. I wasn't surprised, but still sad. So happy to see a video of proper dancing.
Yes Wallahe,....this is the real deal !!! Proper belly dancing.
I love ARAB culture
Every Arab country has a different culture. You will find something like this only in Egypt.
It's Egyptian culture dear ,get it right
@minalameey4366 It's quite surprising that most people don't know that Gypsies also have a huge presence in the Middle East and belly dancing is a dance associated with Egyptian Gypsies and not with the Arabs, Copts, Greeks and Berbers of Egypt.
Such unique flavor of music and culture
We see new things everyday!
What a wonderful world
I been looking for traditional belly dancing for a long time I'm glad I found this.
So beautiful!
I look forward to seeing more. This was beautiful. Thank you. :-)
It looks so glamorous and artful love it ❤❤❤
so this is what it's supposed to look like. i love it. looks so joyous and fun.
So beautiful I wanna start belly dancing already💕
Now that’s what you call authenticity. ❤️ This is pleasing to watch, really don’t enjoy watching half naked belly dancers. Art doesn’t have to do anything with revealing body parts.
just because you dont like seeing body parts doesnt mean they are not art (or that they are art). If you think the human body is shameful just dont look at it.
Such energy💃🏻✨
Thank you for this video it's so Amazing I love it💕
Wish I was there. Stunning

Nice performance, very traditional and super nice. Love it
Wow..this is the art. Not the modern nonsense that happens under the name of this great dance. Belive it or not..this makes it more sensual.
Beautiful dance 😊😊😊😊😊
I love the modest dresses so beautiful thank u for sharing.this is better than nakedness
Beautiful!!!
This is what I mean when I say I like belly dance Dx this is so beautiful!
Like their dress wear
So beautiful much love from Miami USA ❤❤
I’m with most of the subscribers here. I have been looking for authentic belly dancing for a long time online. I took folk dancing in high school (back in the day) and was introduced to belly dancing. I LOVED it and still do. People are so gullible and think all that Tribal fusion crap is ‘authentic’. Don’t get me wrong. I know what it takes to build all that control these ‘dancers’ have over their bodies to move the way they do, but really?? They’ve taken away the meaning of this warm and beautiful middle eastern art form and the stories these dances used to tell and have made it into a competitive activity just barely above peep-show status. Thank you for posting this video so those who do know what is ‘authentic’ can breathe easier and fully enjoy this. ❤️
Just like the very famous Flamenco dance of Spain is the dance of the Gypsies(Roma) of Spain, Belly dance is the dance of Egyptian Gypsies(Dom) who mostly live in Upper Egypt(Southern Egypt) in cities like Luxos.
This is so beautiful
