Born in Mtl 1949. Moved away 1n 1982 for economic reasons. The opening scene almost reminds me of a German newsreel from the 30"s. But those were the days. Notice caucasian faces exclusively. A lot different today. Elm trees downtown. Then the Dutch elm disease took over in the mid sixties. Streetcars! I remember riding the Rosemont sreetcar with my grandmother. Also took the streecar to belmont park. I believe Expo 67 was the Climax of Montreal's glory days. The memories remain but the city, as every other city in the world, has changed. For the better or for the worse?... your interpretation I guess.
I'm a chinese immigrant living in Montreal right now. I came with my parents in 2003. Nothing wrong with being whites. Anti-white identity politic is a mental disease. Montreal was a great city then. Peace.
My folks were 1st generation From British immigrants. Born in 1918 and 1925 (mom). In Maisoneuve. I grew up in the West Island in the 1960s and 70s. Still near Montreal. It’s still pretty good but like you said everywhere has changed. I remember Expo really well it had a huge impact on me. I grew up with lots of Montreal history. The Royals The Maroons. Drinking with Dickie Moore at Toe Blake’s tavern when I was 16 lol. Cheers from Montreal
