- Reform UK has secured a fifth seat as the final election result in England was declared at South Basildon and East Thurrock, following a recount.
James McMurdock narrowly defeated the Labour candidate by 98 votes, replacing Conservative Stephen Metcalfe.
He joins leader Nigel Farage as the second Reform UK MP in Essex after Farage's victory in Clacton.
Peter Cardwell speaks with Talk's International Editor, Isabel Oakeshott.

I read in his wiki page "McMurdock says his banking career included roles at Barclays Capital, Goldman Sachs, and Lehman Brothers." Am hoping he's not like most of the the other banker/politicians.

Also it's just as well there is a handful of Mps as maybe, if there was more then it would be hard to find out the views of other potential Mps. Good point. Reform being in the position they are in now might put pressure and the wind up Labours arse and they will start to doing the right things the country wants them to do. If they don't, they could get the same treatment as the conservatives did else I can see in four years time.
Did Isobel find out from Mahyar Tousi's channel, etc, that James McMurdock got by without an election agent, and his "team" at the election counts were solely his loving parents? That's what James said to Nigel on the phone after the result was declared!
James McMurdock is a local lad from where he has been elected and has a degree in finance. He has worked in investment banking and has "facilitated billions of dollars in business deals across sectors including energy, infrastructure and manufacturing for both global corporations and developing countries governments" He is 38 years old.
The lunatic left will have him a Nazi by Sunday.

I could not vote for Labour as they always turn into fiscal disaster nor could I vote for the Tories who let the entire country down with simple stupidity. Reform now has a voice in Parliament and it will be loud. They will be a threat to both Starmer and whoever replaces Sunak.
It's not just Reform's elected MPs, but also all the constituencies where they came a reasonably close second that they have to build on.
What a crass election system we have though when Reform got that huge percentage of votes and it ends up with just 5 MPs! Trouble is Labour aren’t going to change the system, are they?

Well done to all our successful MP's, I voted for our local candidate who unfortunately came third in the election. We are now saddled for the next 5 years with the first ever, in Southport, Labour MP. That will be the end of our Pier then as Sefton Council (why we come under them I do not know, we have a Preston postcode PR) only spend our Poll tax on areas South of Hightown.
