  • In today's video after being asked to A LOT, I finally run through my first impressions of the Falco, this includes comfort, power, handling, looks and any faults I think there are. If you're looking at buying a Falco why not have a watch :)
    This isn't one of my usual reviews, I might do a longer term one on this bike once I work out every last bug and have it just the way I want it :)

    I have a 2000 Falco and I'd never go back to inline-fours. BEsides, this bike is nearly unknown, yet does a motorway fly as well as hours travelling. I did a two week trip around france in 2018 and never felt aches or pains after hours of riding. Amazing bike.

      I still love my inline 4s, but mostly V4s, they're still the best package imo, that said I miss the Falco daily for many reasons, yours included, and really wish I didn't have to sell it.

    Thanks for your vids abt. the Falco SL. Helped me a lot. Stopped cycling in 2001 after two chrashes with CX 500 TURBO which I had for 10 years and a GTS 1000 from Yamaha. Kids are grown up now. Bought a Falco SL 1000 today. 2001, 37.000 km, Superbike handlebar, steelflex, silver. Thats it. All the best to you. Greetings from the east of Hamburg, Germany.

    Great video. I thought I was keen on my Falco but your enthusiasm is so infectious I’m seeing some parts of it in a new light. Mine came with some old scorpion cans with baffles which are just about the right noise level and have the right deep throaty timbre so I’m putting up with the dents and scuffs for now. I am a huge fan of the engine and it’s balancer shafts. My previous bike had 3 cylinders and 147 bhp but I have more fun on the Falco. And at 22 yrs it looks classic but not old. Perfick. Re cans consider Remus. They sounded crazy good on my old TRX

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! Haha I have a problem you see around bikes I may like them a bit too much :P Ah nice, do the scorpion cans slip on to the stock headers? If they do I'd go for them tbh I had scorpions before and I'd happily buy from them again.
      It's a fantastic engine. Yeah the power on the road is beautiful to be fair, not too little and not a mad amount that instantly get you in trouble, I'd love 200bhp but I'd be in jail very quickly. Yeah it's a kind of timeless design really!!
      They don't seem to do exhausts for aprilias at all sadly! Not that I'm in the market for a bit anyway, the stock will do for now.

    • @mike-qz1nw
      @mike-qz1nw 2 года назад

      @@TheGorillaBiker tbh I can’t say if they are stock headers but I would guess so. It might be worth checking with AP workshops in Tamworth re cans they will know what fits. I have always admired the v2 tuonos and RSVs which have ‘Aprilia racing ‘ option cans fitted make lovely noise so I’ll have sniff around them in due course. Power wise the Falco your right it’s the Goldilocks solution. The TRX lovely though it was, ran out of puff too soon and the Daytona ( like a bulldog-impressive when angry but also surprisingly intelligent ) was a complete helicopter-magnet😜

    I’ve put a handlebar conversion on and a YSS shock , the shock is a great upgrade

      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +1

      Very nice bike history too :P
      Did you go for a Falcuono type deal? I don't actually mind the stock bars :) I must get the shock done asap tbh!!
      Oh nice, I'd love to try one of those, definitely more of a headcase of a bike :D But yes, the falco is reasonable speed wise and a hell of a lot of fun! Thank you!

      @MrPmunson123 2 года назад +2

      @@TheGorillaBiker bought it thinking I would be ok with the standard bars as my Mille was to extreme, I’m 6” 4” and 60 years old!! So did the top yoke and Renthal bar conversion myself
      It had scorpion end cans on , ( sounds like thunder without the baffles in )
      The engine and sound was the main reason why I bought it 😆 it’s a very underrated bike the shock is so much better, it’s got 10mm ride height adjustment, tips in the corners even better

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +1

      Ah fair enough so, If I hang on to it long enough I might do the same myself at some point :D
      Ah nice, I was trying to talk to Scorpion directly today to see would they make link pipes for they're newest factory oval cans but they wouldn't, or couldn't, do it sadly. I've had scorpions before and really like them.

    Had my Falco five years. Came from a series of Fireblades but thought I would try a V twin. In the UK these are stupid cheap, £1500 for a mint 3000 miler.
    I agree with all you say. I went to a 15 tooth front sprocket, just right. Along the way I picked up a 'big valve' RSV motor. Not much difference in performance to be honest.
    The one thing you don't mention is battery condition. They have to be good or starter sprag clutch damage can occur. Mine has always started fine so I can't comment.
    Great bikes, a bit unruly, but I have had some memorable rides on the old girl. Best value for money out their, if you are prepared to care for them.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад

      Ah very good! When I was looking before I bought this one the cheapest I saw over yonder on autotrader was about £2500, which would have worked out waaaaaay too expensive to import sadly.
      Oh really, that's good to hear really so! I'm very happy with how it performs power wise as is tbh, any faster and I'd just be arrested a lot :P
      I've heard as such, I'll be doing the cable and starter solenoid change soon and was going to mention all of that then, tbh most bikes suffer if you use a crap battery.

    A lot of these aprilias have a hard time starting due to people fitting low cranking amp batteries. They were never good new due to low battery technology back then. This destroys the sprag clutch. Especially when starting the bike when its hot. Aprilia performance near Birmingham in the UK do an upgrade kit to help prevent this. Higher 230 CA battery, 150amp solenoid and a set of thicker copper leads. £170.

      @@TheGorillaBiker OK, I watched all of it. No Music. No drones. No B-roll, just 33 minutes and 2 seconds of you talking. Not complaining, just amazed. How can you think of stuff to say? You are the king. ;)

      Hahaha that sound like a critique :P I'm sorry I didn't have time for B roll :'( I'll do better.

    If I won the lottery (which I won't, because the odds are worse when you don't do it 😁), I'd still keep my old ZX9r. These old bikes are still great, amazing performance and fun at a much lower cost.

      Haha I play it like....twice a year so I have to win eventually right :P Yeah I'd 100% keep my old bikes too, actually I'd keep more of them :D There's such good bikes out there for ok money once you don't mind making a few improvements!

      @@TheGorillaBiker I'd definitely buy more and do them up, always doing things with my bikes, it's in my blood lol, I did train as a mechanic 20 years back, great times. I worked in a few garages and at STS Tyre Pros for a bit. Still learning all the time as we all do, part of the fun 👍

      I have no idea why I like working on them so much tbh, no mechanics in the family or anything but I love it!! Absolutely you never stop, if we did we'd be bored eh :P

      I'd love a 944 too, and another Falco, or my own. Still gutted I couldn't bring it with me to America.

      I already knew the answer. April is in my shed. Just sitting mint. Just waiting to chop her way through a corner.

      @@TheGorillaBiker I ran across a Falco owner here in the US. He was looking to sell it. I didn't have 5k for another Italian headache. His had 80k miles on it.
