- DMV Drive Test Part 1 is the first of 3 videos that we created to help new drivers understand what will be expected from them when arriving at the DMV for their driving test. Our videos will cover how to check in at the DMV for the driving test, how the DMV examiner will grade the driving test, and what your automatic fails on the driving test will be (Critical Driving Errors).

My test is on Tuesday! I'm so excited. Thank you for making this video, none of my family could answer this question for me 😭
Glad I could help. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!
Thank you so much for doing this video and the other two parts! I'm over in SoCal and just passed my driving test this past Wednesday on the first try!! 😊🎉 I paid attention to your tips and that really helped me feel prepared. Continue all the great videos and content!

Fantastic! Stay safe out there.
Your video really helped ! I took my test on Monday and passed ! I won’t lie, my examiner was quite grumpy and not too nice throughout the whole ride haha, but I still passed with only 2 errors. Thanks for helping me to not feel too nervous !
Glad it helped! Stay safe out there on your first weekend with a DL.
Have my test tomorrow, going over a few things before I go tomorrow. Video was helpful!!

Thank you. Good luck tomorrow!!
@@dmvanddriver9624 test is in Culver City tomorrow at 10:20 am. They open at 8 am. Suggested time you think I should arrive? 8:30 am? Takes like 15-20 min to get there but still gotta check in
You got your license??
@@deisydiaz4473 sadly I failed, but I feel I was wronged because the instructor denied a misleading direction he gave at the beginning of the test, and claimed it was my fault. I failed three times, the second time I was about to pass but made a mistake at the very end. Life has put on hold me being able to get back to practicing and getting my permit again, but soon, in the next month I'll get it again, and before end of year get it. Hbu?
You're like a driving angel thank you 👍

i have my test tomorrow, so nervous….wish me luck!
Good luck!!
I have a few questions since I’m taking my drivers test in 9 days , in cities should I go around 25-30 or 20-30 mph? , if other vehicles are going fast but I’m going at the 25-30 should I speed up to 35 or keep going at 25-30 and ignore the others , for lane changes should I count to 3 and then change? Also for stops should I do one stop and then go a bit forward and stop then go at a stop sign?
Hi Kimberly. You want to be close to the posted speed limit. The speed limit signs are usually after traffic lights or larger intersections. Don’t speed with other traffic because it’s still speeding and the DMV will mark you down. Neighborhoods (houses with driveways entering the roadway you’re on) are always 25 unless they are physically posted differently. Downtown business districts are usually 25. I suggest driving around the DMV to familiarize yourself with the area or at lease check out street view on Google Maps.
Lane changes: Signal, check your middle mirror, side mirror in the direction of the lane change, and the corresponding blind spot (over your shoulder), look back forward (in case traffic is slowing in front of you), and then proceed when it’s clear. Keep an eye on your side mirror for speeding motorcycles.
Stop signs: always start behind the first limit line that you arrive at, and then you can ease up to see and proceed when it’s clear. You don’t legally have to stop the second time just be careful. If it’s a four-way stop, stop behind the first limit line and then except your right of way, But keep scanning the intersection in case someone is speeding and won’t stop.
Where you from? Because, I’m in Texas and I never heard DMV. In Texas, it’s called DPS. This is the first video I watched from you.
From California, so worse drivers than out in Texas 🤣.
Hi, I got a question. Do I need the insurance owner to come with me to the driving test? So I'm going with a friend who has a license, but he's not the insurance owner
In my experience no (also in California). If you’re over 18 you just have to have a CA licensed driver go with you and have the current registration and insurance. Your name doesn’t have to be on it, just current for the vehicle. If you’re under 18 be sure that the person coming with you is 25 or older with a CA license. Good luck.
hey i had a question wondering if u can answer it for me , so the day of test when taking the car ur gonna drive does the person whose name is on the registration of the car need to be there that day ? and also if u have insurance for the car but you’re not really on since ur a minor ?
I will try to answer that for you. In California, and in my experience, the vehicle being used just needs to have current registration and insurance. The registered owner doesn’t need to be there as long as everything is current, so you could borrow your friend’s vehicle for the test.
The new driver’s name does Not need to be on the insurance either. Most insurance companies don’t put a new driver on the insurance until they have a valid driver’s license. That is entirely up to the insurance company so if you had any further questions about that I would inquire with your insurance company.
Hope that answers your question.
@@dmvanddriver9624 got it thank you for clearing that up for me. i got my driving license testing coming up may 10th. lol
@@jennaloza7843 Best of luck Jenna!
I will be skipping into the DMV tomorrow 😂
Best of luck and thank you for your time.
@@dmvanddriver9624 thank you! I passed! 😊
@@clarinel6577 congratulations!! Stay safe out there.
I have driving test on October 26. I'm L.A.
I'm already super nervous.
Don’t think of the test like a test. All you’re doing is driving their kid to school, no crash, no ticket…pass. Take a deep breath before you go. You’ve got this!
I lost the road test evaluation slip they gave me. Can I get a new one?

Blue button
my driving test is next week i be using my husband car for my test but the back windows are tinted will that be a problem?
That shouldn’t be a problem in CA because they are concerned about vehicle safety issues. Plus it’s legal to have the rear window tinted.
Awesome thank you so much!
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO ON MY TEST WHEN ITS RAINING? I have my test tomorrow and it’s going to be raining the whole day!! Should I be driving the exact speed limit or a few MPH less whilst it rains?? I know it’s a automatic fail if you drive under the speed limit
Drive at a safe speed, usually the speed limit. If it’s raining hard enough that there is standing water on the roadway you may have justification to drive a little slower. You can get marked down for driving a little slow, but if you have a reason for going slower then it’s okay. That will be a judgement call that you can talk with your parent about that day based on the current conditions of the roadway.
If it’s raining be sure to turn on your headlights for inclement weather, know how your windshield wipers operate before the test (and be comfortable using them), and have your vehicles defroster on so that your windows don’t fog up.
@@dmvanddriver9624 thanks I passed on my first try, easy stuff was over thinking it though
@@soulja4islam706 congratulations…stay safe out there.
do i need to bring a birth certificate or social security card? I’m under 18
For taking the permit you’ll need to bring the entire list found on the DMV website.
For taking the drive test you’ll need your permit, certificate of completion of behind the wheel training, and current registration and insurance.
Check your state’s DMV website for clarification.
During pre-drive test, engine should be on or started ?
They will ask you to turn your vehicle to the “ON” position, not started. But if you accidentally start it it’s no big deal. They’ll just have you shut the car off. You’re not graded on that. Good luck. 👍🏻
What if it only has a push start button
Is this for a grade?
The only thing graded is the bolded items on the sheet. Set and release parking brake, show and tell arm signals, and point to windshield wipers, defroster, emergency flashers, and headlights.
Do people in their 30's need to get their learning permit
Yes. But you shouldn’t have to wait to take the behind the wheel test. Check your state’s DMV for their requirements. You will still have to take a written knowledge based exam.
Immediately take photos of car accident don't move car until after photos have been taken! I can't stress this enough. Call police. Get a witness if possible phone number. Take photo of person who hit you. Write down on pad exactly what and how it happened date, time. It's not to pricey get a camera for your vehicle, absolutely use it always when driving. Someone will call you more than once asking same questions. A person will say they are trying to figure out who's to blame and record your conversation. Record your own conversation with them. Listen to video, for his ideas. Save every text, Save every call made to you. Report Insurance who won't pay claim,to State Insurance Commission. Check to see if there is a camera on light pole. If there is, have your attorney subpoena the camera recordings. Person will ask about your seat belt and who else was in car with you.
If there is any doubt of whose fault it is ask law enforcement to take a report. They are required to if you ask. Some agencies will only take reports if there is a complaint of pain or greater injury. Just ask. It’s their job. I also wrote a report as soon as someone asked for one. Pictures are worth 1000 words and video is better. Points of rest for vehicles are good. Be careful of other traffic when taking photos. Godspeed everyone.
Omgg this video was actually really helpful 🤍
Is it a automatic fail to have a small crack on windshield 🤦🏻♀️
It can be. I would swing by the DMV and ask one of the examiners in passing if the crack in the windshield is too big. I’ve been told that if it’s in the driver’s view at all they won’t allow the vehicle to be used. I’ve also been told that if the crack is over 12 inches they won’t allow that vehicle to be used either. Hope that helps.
It shouldn’t be an “automatic fail”, but they won’t allow you to test. I’m not sure if that counts against your three chances with the permit.
Thank you for the information !!
I just clarified with a DMV examiner today. If you cannot take the test due to a crack it does NOT count as an automatic fail, you just can’t take the test that day. So it will not cost you anything and not count against your three driving attempts. Good luck.
Thank you for that. I spent some time repairing it and it looks noticeable but not… if that makes sense… I just went to the dmv to see if they could inspect but they didn’t, they just said don’t tell anyone about it 🤐🤫🥲 but i shall see where it goes during the test.
How many times you can retry the Drive test in CA.
You can take three behind the wheel drive tests. If you fail the third test, you have to resubmit all of your paperwork to the DMV and take the written test again. The time held with the original permit doesn’t expire.
My test is tomorrow after looking at this video I’m confident 🪄✨ wish me luck 🍀
Good luck!! You got this!
