    As someone that's suffered from spinal nerve damage for the past 4yrs, highly recommend a minimum CE rated back/spine protection. Alpinestars makes a sweet, low profile one (bionic if I remember correctly) that fits over or under your jersey and has great coverage and is also neck brace compatible if you're into that.

    the story goes like this, i ride and mid range e scooter and one summer night on the way on. i end up hitting a pot hole and flipped into the air did the roll and landed on my back. all this happen when traveling in 19 miles/ 32 km per hour. thank the gods i had got myself a enter level bell helmet, 6.0 leatt elbow guards and leatt knee brace (duel axe). what really break the fall or slow down. it's the fact that the handle bars smacked into my upper chest. and my god. it blow the air out of my lungs. sure it hurt. but i couldn't breath for up to 7 seconds. over all i wasn't hurt so badly that i need to call for help. after laying there for up to 15 minutes. i got backed up and ride home. lesson learned. get better lights and a chest armor. i am so glad that there's video about gear as this. thanks for the information!

    For me I decided what riding I am doing for example I am going to be doing some serious racing so I would go for the best stuff I can afford. The points I go for is a good helmet and boots and a good neck brace and a knee brace. I find what will give the best performance benefits to the best feel and comfort. I just try to do the best research I can do to protect myself.

    I can without a doubt say that a helmet and knee guards are the most important pieces of gear at own. Obviously boots and gloves and chest protectors.
    But EVERY time I’ve fallen off road, I’ve taken some hits to my knees and my elbows. I fell ONCE without my knee guards and my knee has been messed up for over a year now. I can flick it and cause severe pain.
    So, buy as much gear as you can because it will save you in the long run. Also, just watch a few crash videos and see how people crash and what happens to them. Then think of what gear you ride in and if you think you’d be fine with or without certain things.

    I keep going back and forth between getting a sm5 or go ahead and get a 6D atr 1 but it’s just so hard to justify spending 500 dollars. I bought the tech 7 booths which was the most I’ve spent on gear. But I really want a good helmet. Should I pull the trigger on the 6D or is the SM5 good and safe enough since I don’t really race just go to the track on weekend?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 года назад +2

      Riding a track on the weekend and racing shouldn't make a difference. Maybe while racing you're pushing a little harder but you'll want what you feel is the safest helmet regardless. The SM5 is a great, affordable helmet, and I can't tell you which one is the safer between it and the ATR-1, but it's fair to say that the ATR-1 does have more advanced technology. If you feel like you'll be safe in the Astars, then get it. If you think the ATR-1 is the safest option, then go with that. - Chase

    • @lostinpa-dadenduro7555
      @lostinpa-dadenduro7555 4 года назад +1

      One man’s opinion: I’d go with the ATR-1. I had an ATR-1 and now I have an ATR-2. I’ve gone butt over tea kettle and slid down a gravel road on the side of my head in the ATR-1 after smacking it off the ground. My head was OK. My collar bone not so much. Every hit is different, but I spent a lot of time researching after a similar crash I had in a Shoei where I got a gnarly concussion. I have much, much more confidence in the 6D.

    As someone who is just learning the clutch, how to ride, and will only be riding trails and no jumps for a long bit, do I need knee braces, chest protector, and a neck brace?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  2 года назад

      Personally, I would always recommend some sort of chest protection for any skill level. As for knee braces and a neck brace, that is completely up to the rider. Knee injuries can happen at slow speeds just a easily as high speeds, but that also doesn't mean that a knee brace will save you. I would at least get some good, protective knee guards. Neck braces are personal preference. I don't wear one personally, but if a rider feels safer wearing it, more power to them. - Chase

      Have you tried a 6D ATR-2? I find the fit generous. I get a large and then substitute the medium cheek pads. You can mix and match liners and cheek pads for XS/SM, M/L, XL/XXL. So in effect you could turn a large into a medium, etc. Or like you could do a medium liner and then large cheek pads, etc. If you email them your measurements they can help you with fit.
