I had the same problem with my Breville model BOV650 purchased new in Oct 2021. Watched this video all the way thru then read all of the comments. I learned by reading the comments maybe all you need to do is wipe the thermostat clean. It's located top right inside of the oven, I wiped it with a clean cloth and now it works. THANKS!
Thanks for the tips. I have had this unit 9 years and use it multiple times a day. I cleaned the thermostat face in the back rear right side. Viola! She be working.
Thanks for this and for pointing out the location of the thermostat. I took a dry paper towel and wiped the surface of the thermostat. Voila, that familiar buzzing sound! I don't know if this fix will last, but at least I'll get one more sandwich out of it.
@@Mr8Captain A year later and the oven is still working. Glad this worked for you. WIthout HelpMeOut's video though I never would have known where the thermostat was!
Thank you! Just wiped mine down and it's heating fine again. I wish I would have checked before taking it mostly apart. I've had my BV800XL since 2013 or earlier, so I'm glad I can keep using it.
In case you-all do not scroll down to see GreatDad's note below. I tried his insanely easy fix of just cleaning the thermostat (see video - no disassembly required). It _can't_ have worked, yet...it worked!!
5:42 the three screws - by all means remove the feet from the unit but just right of the bottom right screw there is a drill hole and a screw down the hole that is the screw you remove free the control unit that allows you to take the lid completely off. No need to have a long screw driver as you mention much earlier in this video. Just take the feet off and that one screw to free the controller.
YEP! Perfect fix . . . easiest appliance problem I have ever encountered! However . . . having put a flashlight on it revealed a mess of grease on the inside panels and element guards (been cooking for over 10+ years). Going to have to take it all apart to clean them . . . I had the same problem. There doesn't seem to be replacement temp sensors available anymore for this model. I was about to toss the whole toaster but i tried putting the sensor back in again-- works fine! Its been a few weeks now with no problems.
Novice here. When you say putting the temp sensors back in. Do you mean disconnecting them from the wire that leads to the controller then reconnecting it again. I couldn’t find a video on disconnecting temp or thermal sensors but did find on a regular oven which was more like a replacement. ruclips.net/video/vjVOqTLoJR0/видео.html I’m assuming I would have to open the back unlike the example in the video I posted. I’m attempting a fix on a breville bov800xl. It’s been two months since you posted this. Is this issue still resolved. Thanks
Great informative video. I was able to get those 5 black screws off with a smaller screwdriver, just enough finger strength, and cut risk. FWIW, HEATER_N spade was burnt out on my Breville's power PCB. New ones are $50 with shipping and currently back-ordered so after 7 years might have to just throw it in the landfill.
Same problem with my PCB power supply board. I was able to re-solder my Heater-N spade back into the board. BTW the overall build quality of that board is very low. Thin epoxy, warped board, poor heat dissipation and low quality interconnects make the board a likely defective component. Inspect those boards carefully and you may find your fault and be able to fix it using a solder iron to reflow burned traces.
A good slap on the right side (machine's left side) resonates in a way that triggers the heating circuit. It's been working for years, but I'm at a point now where I'd rather get a replacement part.
Wow! Giving it the ol' Fonzie smack brought mine back to life too. I'm still going to buy a new one while they still make them, but this will tide me over until the new one arrives arrives. Thanks for the tip!
Should be possible to check resistance of the thermostat. It's like a simply thermistor (similar to what is used in 3d printers). Resistance should be more than 0 (shorted) but less than infinity (open circuit).
Same problem Tap on the right side made it work a few times until it didn’t. Elements measures 8ohms each Thermistor measures 80k0hms at 80 degrees and goes down as it gets warmer. No idea what the correct value should be but since the part is not available to the landfill this toaster will go.
I really love the Air Frying function of my Breville Toaster/Air Fry oven and have not yet have a problem with it. The most common component to fail in any convection oven is the convection calculator fan and they fail in every brand simply because the motor bearings fail and the motor ends up seizing and shorting out. Very few small fan motors have the good bearings in them to last reliably for years and years. It's not right to simply toss a small appliance into the land fill because a cheap part gives out when the rest of it is perfectly good and well engineered.
Yes, we need to get away from disposing appliances so quickly, videos like this help us do that. I have a kitchenaid toaster oven that stopped working after just a year.
E01 error is likely to mean either a failed thermal fuse at the back of the oven (once the back cover taken off) or a failed thermistor (thermal resister used to measure temperature). just in case this helps anyone, the sage / breville smart oven uses SF214E SEFUSE 10A 250V 216 Celcius fuse, you can check the fuse for continuity with most electronic meters. in case no signal is coming through - it’s the culprit. alternatively, if the fuse shows signal continuity, then it could be thermal resistor (thermistor) that is screwed to the wall of the oven and needs to unscrewed from the inside. if that’s the element to fix and you manage to unscrew it - first clean it and then test it for resistance. It’s a 100k glass Thermal Resistor NTC MF58 if measured at 25C temperature (costs peanuts). So, it can read lower or higher depending on the temperature of the space you’re in, normally 70k to 120k, unless the temp difference is more significant.Sometimes, just cleaning it helps as dirt can short the signal and, thus, trigger the discussed error. Bear in mind that if you decide to change the thermal resistor due to it being shorted after all, then soldering it won’t work - you’d need to crimp it. It operates at under 230C, where solder isn’t likely to last long. Sage / Breville make their devices a nightmare to disassemble and fix. They're very simple in principle, but well - it's just business (i.e., scam).
Mine just stopping working after 5 or so years of having it. It was in storage when I moved back home June 2020 to October 2021. Convection oven mode makes a normal heating sound but no heat for 30 mins while I was cleaning up around the house...pizza mode works so I guess that’ll due for now. Love my zoster oven.
I did a resistance/continuity check on the temperature sensor, where the connector meets the display panel (that's the easiest spot to get to the two wires going to the sensor). Mine read at 125k ohms of resistance. I also checked the thermal fuse and it was fine. I also checked a lot of the control/power circuit board, and all the variable resistors (blue capacitor looking things) were fine, the triads (heatsink bois) were fine, the resistors were fine, and even the capacitors. Notably, those yellow capacitors are X2 capacitors, they are in series with the power (power on one end, power on the other, no ground), so follow their chunky traces to know the flow of higher voltage. I had a little trouble testing the relays and transformer. Given that the device powers on, I assume my issue lies in a bad reading from the thermal sensor and displays error E05. Like on startup, everything is fine, but the device reads an unexpected reading from the temperature sensor and displays error E05. It also makes sense that the device will not allow a user to use the device when the temperature sensor is faulty because it becomes very unsafe if it were to heat uncontrolled.
To fix the intermittent start button problem mentioned at end of video, I disassembled all the way to the PCB and replaced the microswitch behind the outer button. It took a steady soldering hand to do that, so find an electronics nerd friend to help out. The switch has four legs and is universally used on count less appliances of all brands. It’s so cheap that a minimum order is a dozen or more for $5 or so off Amazon.
Cleaning the thermostat at the back with a slightly moistened cloth with some SimpleGreen did the trick for me as well! There was virtually nothing on it... so this is weird. I've repaired a lot of things over the years... but I honestly don't understand this failure mode! Funny how Breville has no mention of it in their "troubleshooting" section of the manual.
Hey brother where did you get the thermostat it may be the problem with mine. It is a different model although manufacturers frequently use the same parts across there spectrum. I have the same oven, different problem. The top rear element doesn't heat up as much as the other three. Does anyone know if the problem is the element or something else? Thanks
Almost all toaster ovens are manufactured in ways that make their repair difficult. Screws are difficult to reach, as with the Breville here, or they are not driven by Phillips or flat head screw-drivers, or rivets are used that must be filed away. Also, replacement parts are not standardized when they could be easily, parts such as thermostats. One must usually by from a parts distributor who ads his markup the the manufacturer's. All this difficulty is part of the effort to make you junk yours and buy a new one. That is the American way! Sucker the public !
Just wondering if you help me by experience what would be the defective part on one of these toastesr that show E01 and cant get to start ....unless the room temperature its warm ...or i put it next to heater or stove to warm up the casing then it starts working . Thanks
Well you really didn't need a long screw drive or rag some thing up, since you did took the other foot off then the whole cover assembly came off...:) and if you didn't you should have then taking those screws from inside be the easiest part.
Great video, thanks! I am having hard time locate the parts, and the site listed here is gone too. Is there anywhere else I can get the parts from? Thanks!!
@@HelpMeOutVideos Can you please tell me where you bought that part? The 2 replacement part websites I've checked online say that part is "No longer available".
Hola amigo mi horno dice E06 puedes ayudarme por favor
Just wondering if you help me by experience what would be the defective part on one of these toastesr that show E01 and cant get to start ....unless the room temperature its warm ...or i put it next to heater or stove to warm up the casing then it starts working .
Thanks
Good afternoon friend, my oven throws me an error code E05, can you help me
Well you really didn't need a long screw drive or rag some thing up, since you did took the other foot off then the whole cover assembly came off...:)
and if you didn't you should have then taking those screws from inside be the easiest part.

Resistance check
where did you buy your part?
eReplacementPart.com
Great video, thanks! I am having hard time locate the parts, and the site listed here is gone too. Is there anywhere else I can get the parts from? Thanks!!
Can you post the part number you ordered below?
Thermostat part number SP0010487
@@HelpMeOutVideos Can you please tell me where you bought that part? The 2 replacement part websites I've checked online say that part is "No longer available". And indeed when I called Breville they confirmed it is no longer in production and though the same model Breville is still being sold (though with a different thermostat part...probably one that's more reliable). Thank you.
@@ryanwolfshorndl , I got mine on ereplacementparts. Looks like they are out of stock. Did some searching and getting the same results as you. Sorry I don't have any more ideas. Is the new thermostat compatible?
Help Me Out! Videos unfortunately, the new thermostat is not compatible. It has a male connector (I believe) where the old thermostat’s connector into the electrical board was the opposite. Breville has a repair program that I’m going to try out. Less than half the cost of buying a new one.
ryanwolf Just get an adapter connector
Why didn't you show what you did for people like me that do not have a clue
You are assuming that you replaced the thermostat..but you did not check the thermocouple resistance. Not a good video
too much work, ordered some shit for 30 dollars on amazon
Spent all the time explaining how to open the darn thing open rather than how to fix the problem
Spent more time talking about the dang screws than just saying it was the dang thermostat in the back left corner of the oven!!
I can not hear this guy he mumbles thru the whole thing. I need to know if there is a replaceable fuse in an Oster Convection. I've had three of these just quit on me. But they were still under warranty. This one isn't.
Too slow.
How did you put in the new replacement thermostat? I don’t see that in the video.
