    instead of marking the chinstrap with something, i just stitch a horizontal line across it and then just sew around it over and over again until i get to the end. the stitchline also helps hold it on the bale without having to use something else to hold it on.

    Thanks for posting I'm actually looking for a used bar tack machine as I have about 75+ front seams I plan to restore down the road!🤔

    Good that you are showing the 'basics' in your videos, it is be a great help to those in re-enactment who are either new or just lacking confidence. I do not remove the swivel bales I just sew the straps on while the bales are on the helmet.

      that's what I did with my fixed bale. Needle and thread without the use of them fancy safety pins.

    This will help me a lot when I replace my post ww2 helmet chinstraps on my helmet steel pot for my ww2 reenacting helmet so I can have the accurate helmet straps to be able to snap my m1c helmet liner into my steel pot.
