I'm sure it caused thousands of people to start smoking LOL. I just learned something I never knew that. I always wire the radios straight from the battery. Thanks Jim
This is exactly how a car stereo is wired up so a constant DC power source keeps the memories when the main power connected to the accessory buss on the key switch is off.. Many two way radios do not use this third wire at all and there is nothing connected to that socket pin inside the radio.. I have seen radios that have been modified which need extra power for the finals and they use this extra hot wire for that.. I have also seen this used as a backup power source so if the main supply goes down a small relay or voltage switching transistor would instantly change over to the backup battery or other power source.. Some higher end base station CB's have this option if the built in AC power cord supply looses AC power..
Newer cars a lot of electrical devices such as your power outlets are controlled thru a a circuit board that is part of you engine control computer and with the right OBD device and software you can change what stays on and what shuts off.
I have an extra Wii power brick I was going to convert after seeing your video on power supplies. Is it worth doing? Is the noise really bad? BTW great video Johnny.
No the noise seems fine to me, But I live in a high noise area anyway so you may notice a difference or you may not. You could always use extra filtering capacitors or noise filters etc. But the reason why I stand behind the Wii power brick is because the damn thing is actually built well. whereas most other power bricks for charging laptops and stuff like that are really terrible and have high noise and distort your output signal Either way it couldn’t hurt to try it out because otherwise it’s just going to be useless unless you still use a Wii console 👍
it was for the pop up car radio antenna-i used to use one in my Ford Cortina mk2 so when u turn radio on it popped up then turn radio off and it powers antenna till it goes back down..
That's for ten meters, yeah yeah, heard that so many times. I have had computer problems, not all fixed yet but most of it is running, took 9 days to fix!!! I have still no idea what was behind it. I think it might have been watching the Johnny Jonesathome videos!!!! Ah, I am just kidding. Funny thing is the computer was running slow when I got it going and now it is picking up speed. Another strange thing is it is a lot louder!!!! Can't quite work that one out. Still got problems with emails, but who needs them right? I have not seen a CB with three wires to date, but with them being processor controlled it is bound to be along shortly, something else to flatten the car battery when left outside on cold winter nights for days on end! I have over 300 videos to catch up on, but I will get there, I might fall asleep a few times, but hay, I have a lot of watching videos to do. Oh, You remembered I wanted to see inside the CB, I feel honoured :-))
If your computer is running louder it could mean that Your processor is getting too hot and your fan is kicking in at max speed your processor may be throttling itself due to overheating and causing slower speeds you can always do a virus scan with “AVG antivirus” which is a free download at avg.com and I’ve used it for 10 years And I couldn’t agree with you more there’s no reason to leave your damn radio on all the time, I mean sure it probably takes very very little current to keep the memory but I just don’t see the point in the first place how hard is it to move the buttons when you get in the vehicle ( Most the time you’re going to be surfing channels anyway) I was wondering where the hell you were I thought you lost all hope in me and stopped watching haha
@@JohnnyNJones Nah, but I have got hundreds of videos to catch up on, still waiting to see the inside of a certain CB!!!! As for Anti-virus, I have one that goes through a few online that is supposed to catch everything. I have a funny feeling it was one of the updates, but I don't know if it was the browser update or M$ update or one of the others, they all came in together (SNEAKY) and I think one of them caused the computer to freeze everything I tried to go online. I have had the computer since 2014 (August) and it has ran every day since. Everything reports back as being healthy, but every-time I tried to go one the Internet it froze. It is running now, but I have lost email accounts and can't get them to reload into the computer! All Gmail accounts. Wouldn't surprise me if Google had a hand in it, it knows to much and has to much control over everyone's computer. Only thing that needs memory in the car is the radio, who needs the memory to be active in a CB? If I go missing it is the computer that is dead, or me, one of the two! I should get a back-up drive for all the files I have on this computer.
Yeah definitely back up all your files if it’s acting funny, Most likely a corrupted software issue. Could be the hard drive or could be like you said an update that broke some files You can try a restore point if you have one saved
@@JohnnyNJones I got most of it back, but in a way that you are not supposed to. I don't care, it is working for now. Emails are still not working and it is the email I need. They gave me this computer for free if I attend unpaid meetings for 2hrs a month. At the moment they are on line, but I have not test the audio or camera. No one to check it with. Oh well, I will find out on the day. I am trying to get someone from IT at the firm to look at the emails, but no luck so far! Get on with that CB!!!! I am certain it was an update, why would it work until I connected to the internet otherwise. Two things trying to do the same thing at once. I should update to Windows 10, but I like 8.1. I have used W10 and hate it.
I was trying to find out what the Orange wire was as someone has just given me a TRC 444 from realistic in very good condition, We are not used to these rigs here in Britain. This version is from the Philippines as a Guy I know who lives here in UK now bought it there. I got to almost 4 minutes & switched it off as I thought I'm not going to find out anytime soon. Im not waiting 12 mins & 7 seconds so looked elsewhere. A video explaining something so simple should not take almost 13 mins.
Well that’s a good point David. When I had the video in mind I was making it for my subscribers into a full video. I wasn’t taking into consideration people searching it on Google. I’ll update it somehow to make it easier
People are so stupid like we don't want to hear the history of a CB radio bro we just want to know where to hook the orange wire this should be a 30 second video
Well this video clearly explains what the Orange wire is for. Therefore, if you actually wanted to see the channel you were last on then you wouldn’t just attatch it to the red wire. I’m not gonna make a 30 second video for stupid people just because they have the attention span of a dying fish Quick answers and 30 second videos are the reason why people can’t perform simple math equations or think their way out of a paper bag without a RUclips tutorial. People don’t want to know why anymore. They just want the “answer”. Well, that makes for a very stupid society “bro”.

nice!!!........i have the maxon MCB-25,it has the telephone mic plug which i dont like, but it looks good in my collection, thanks for sharing
No problem Mr. raccoon, Seems to be quite well-built
Awesome video, thank you 👍
No problem!

Hey, that’s good to know man 👍
I left my lights on awhile back and when i got a jump start. My car stereo had lost all its pre-sets but my cb was fine😆👍😎
Yep I don’t know why they don’t use a “CMOS” style battery for holding memory storage like in computers

They were cigar lighters not cigarette lighters, only lightweights smoke cigarettes.
Haha Well then I am a middle weight because I smoke both
