Being from Vancouver, it’s funny how skewed the data is when the numbers taken into consideration are for Vancouver and not metro Vancouver. Vancouver is just a city with 650,000 people which is pretty compact already. This data doesn’t include areas like burnaby, new Westminster, etc
Yah but Vancouver can’t really decide the rules for the rest of metro Vancouver. But in all fairness I think every region even sprawling Surrey is trying to radically improve. It’s just Vancouver is improving at a greater rate and started at a move advantageous position. hopefully they inspires the rest of the region. (We don’t talk about the valley though )
Thanks for your nicely presented reminder regarding Vancouver’s ambitious plans. However, simple realities are that a majority of lost old age trees on public streets haven’t been replanted for years by now, public toilets are to few for a natural growing demand within Vancouver, and most public bus stops still remain just being a pole in the concrete ground just to name a few basics saddening it’s residents and visitors alike in terms of becoming the greenest place (: Let’s do better.
An energy efficient home or business is more comfortable and saves money in the long run. Added insulation, triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools.Even if you have money to burn you should not waste it. Climate Change will impact everyone. Leave a better future for your children and grandchildren. Join in and speak up for the future of the planet.
It saves the future residents money in the long run, but the developers who are throwing down the real money to develop buildings have a tougher time convincing residents to pay a premium for supposed long term benefits. A developer can make a more guaranteed quick buck by building the traditional unsustainable way.
I'm sure they my have hit that goal if people went so dam resistant to change even very small ones that can even make there life easier they still treat it like your trying to make them huge a cactus.
A city that rains 7 months a year isn't a bike friendly place to begin with. Translink should improve their bus services if they genuinely wants to improve the environment.
So does the Netherlands a famously wet part of the world? It only rains 3 more days in a year in Vancouver then Amsterdam. But that didn’t stop the Dutch. Now I do prefer transit but I think we should use all the tools in the toolbox to create the best environment possible, and I see bikes as a crucial part of that.

It's amazing how far ahead Vancouver is from Oregon.
Make bus lanes instead of bike lanes. Remove street parking and make underground parkades.
