The Renault Trafic - virtually the same as the Vauxhall Vivaro - has aged incredibly well since it first appeared in 2001.
The range is pretty simple - it comes in six different body combinations with short and long wheelbase versions available with low or high roofs.
It's as practical as even the most modern vans and through the side door you can fit the standard Euro Pallet. There's also a full-length metal bulkhead which keeps sound down at high speeds.
Payload range is pretty impressive and starts from 926kg to 1248kg. Intrusive wheel arches are telling of its age, however, and do intrude on the space. Another area where the Renault Traffic falls behind its competitors is with the interior - it's starting to look a bit dated, and nowhere near as impressive as the Ford Transit Custom's. While storage is reasonable, you don't get roof bins or a lockable glovebox, either.
The driving position is pretty good and you do get height adjustment for the driver's seat. You can alter the steering wheel for reach, but not for height. The entry-level Debut model is extremely basic, while mid-level core version gets electric windows, remote central locking and the sport model has alloy wheels, fog lamps, USB for the stereo and a sat-nav.
Overall, the Renault Trafic is competitively priced, comes with a four year warranty with roadside breakdown assistance and it's a great drive. On the downside, there are some reliability issues and the cabin does feel a little dated. Watch the video review and see what you think.

Just bought 2 blacks one for the business. Cracking vans. Much quieter than the equivalent VW which I was surprised at.

I DRIVE Vauxhall SPORTIVE VERSION. Good points are: good mirrors, driver position, resonably quiet cabin, good speakers quality, bluetooth, powerfull enough. Bad points are: radio started to cuf off speakers and after 2 sec comes back to normal,cd stopped eject discs,if you drive in city DPF will kill your finances,it needs about 30min with 2000rpm avery 10days otherwise DPF will get blocked and dash will show errors, brakes could be 10% better.

That happens with all diesels with a DPF though, its how they are and they have to fit them!

New ones have active cleaning changing timing so exhaust gets hotter and burns it easier.

how does this short wheel base model compare to Nissan NV350 in cargo space?

  • @JonDingle
    @JonDingle 6 лет назад +2

Good points: great to drive, quiet, good mirrors and tows well. Bad points: Unreliable immobilizer so engine doesn't always start, bluetooth fails to connect regularly with phone, designed for French users with left priority rear doors and windscreen wiper, interior lights and radio shut off for on battery saving mode" so you end up having to start the van up and finally every time I pull on the handbrake I have to readjust the armrest because the action of applying the handbrake move the armrest. I won't buy one again.

@twinscroll turbo - Truth and myths well intermixed. Let me put it this way. I got mine a few years ago with ~250k, now it's over 300k. At the time I struggled to find a cheap used Renault Trafic around the price point I wanted. The reason being very simple!
Around the price I wanted to pay, I could ONLY find vans with 500k or more! For something considered so "unreliable", I guess we can agree the mileage tells a different story!
Electric Issues yes they might/can have, a lot I guess.
Unfortunately, for me, by far and wide. Most of the issues I've seen on my van and others I've worked on. Surprisingly or not have been user induced problems!
It's totally possible the origin of the problem(s) could have been OEM faults. I won't even argue that. BUT definitely ignorant users amplified by several folds whatever was in there.
Curiously previous owner also complained about some issues... As mentioned, I eventually found out who put those issues in there! :-(
Examples: Headlights connection burning on one side. The other side going the same direction!
Reason, DO NOT PULL any plugs by the wire. Only some wire strands were still connected! Caught on time, fire averted, literally, by minutes!
Totally dead AC and few more strange happenings! AC plug and oil pressure plugs were interchanged!! Yep! Reason, he didn't route the cables correctly and end up connecting them on the wrong spots! Originating very awkward electrical behaviors. I could carry on with a honestly very long list!
In retrospective even the back doors didn't shut properly! Which served to argue the price. Reason: I detected immediately a small plastic ring (red) from a spray bottle was jammed in there! So the door couldn't close properly! LOL 😂 He also complained about the doors not closing properly!
Moral of the story: When one don't have a clue what he's doing. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, leave it well alone. Or get professional help! ;-)

Whats the small Fiat Scudo got to do with it .

    • @utuba7449

The equivalent Fiat Scudo can carry the same volume & weight payload but (like he said),
has a more powerful engine than it (and both the weak VWs you mention).
      Idiot.

Good van when it works due to low fuel consumption and load smart but no long term option. Like most French, the breakdown cost will catch up the fuel bill and/or the higher price of quality. With that said don’t think Mercedes is as reliable as it used to be and Volvo doesn’t make any vans.

+killbasa2000 Not true. Had one in last week with over 400,000 miles....and it was still absolutely fine. Just look after them and don't treat them like shit! Seen plenty of shit ones also, but most of the time it's because they get abused and aren't serviced.

I can't say that about the Vivaro. I had a Vivaro from age 2003 about 16 years and 280.000 km without any problems and rust.

    • @crpth1

Mine is just a little over 300k, smooth and nice! My problem at the time, I bought it, was to find. For the price I wanted to pay a model, with less than 500k! The only ones I could find were on the 500k mark or over! And, yes I wanted relatively cheap. ;-)
When you guys say it's unreliable, I guess it doesn't take a genius to notice that for something so "unreliable". They surely do last a long time! LOL 😂

Love my remapped 62 reg Vivaro. Matt slams doors just like my wife! Why would you need hill control, is that not the brain, hand, foot function? Get an automatic if you can't use a handbrake. Auto wipers are useless though! Same wipers on my Nissan Pulsar, some Renault parts suck.

Stevie Mc - BS! To find my used Trafic, for the price I wanted to pay, it was a struggle. Why? Because they're all between 400k and 500k km or over!! One of them announced with a whopping 650k on the clock. Mine is just shy of 300k!
For such a "sh_t" van, as you say, they do roll a lot more then expected... What a surprise! ;-)
