Lots of times in Japan people wear face masks to protect people around them from a flu or cold they might have. Face mask started to be used in Japan during and after the Spanish flu epidemic. It is very frustrating to have Americans or others try to force their culture and way of life on a people with a different way of life. Appreciate very much that you appreciate and respect Thai culture.

Thai or Japanese culture is for sick people to show more consideration of society around them by using masks (the downside is that sick people are still expected to work). This is **very** different though as this is **everyone** wearing it cause they are made to feel unsecure without it and shun people who don't conform . As such it can be compared to cultures that cover up women for religious purposes. This despite science, as opposed to political dictates masquerading as science, is out now out on masks doing as much or more harm than good. Particularly towards the young.

Yes Kyle couldn’t said it better myself
To all westerners pushing their views please remember one thing thai youth learn English in school and most speak better English then westerners and they are on RUclips as well just one thing Respect and have compassion on others views and beliefs if Thai people come to the western countries they would be super respectful of others like back in their home country.
Just do one thing chill out and take a leaf out of Thai culture nang sabai

@@mamabear5488 probably so, however, that was not the point of the post. I think the point was about culture and our reaction to the cultures we live in. Americans often expect the people in the country they are living in to change. I will use myself as an example.
I first came to Japan in 1972 after serving four years, eight months and twenty eight days in the Marine Corps. In the beginning everything was hunky dory. After about six months culture shock started to set in. I hated everything the Japanese did. “Why don’t they do it our way….” Then I went to Taiwan and Americans were making the same complaints about the Chinese! It is NOT the Chinese or the Japanese it was US not able to respect their culture.
I do not know the medical value of masks but when the society you live in requests you use masks then just do it.

No matter how many true reports that COVID cannot be stopped with Masks, Shots, and Distance people are still wearing masks. Have.been in Thailand this trip over 80 days and have watched all the people masked. I will not photo a person with a mask - I did last year and looking back I’m not even sure who they are. It doesn’t make for the memories that I am making and makes me feel like I’m photographing an accident scene

My time in the Marines in Southeast Asia, specifically Japan, 1980-81. Lots of people in Japan wore masks. There are lots of odors in areas of Asia, especially in the cities, some in the countryside because of burning season. Crematoriums kinda smelled as well. Binjo ditches were kinda nasty and smelled like a water treatment plant.
The Philippines,South Korea. Not much difference.
Try Beijing or any other city in China. Air pollution that is 400 parts per million air quality on any given day. You would think it is fog but it’s pollution.
This is all BC. Before covid. Many years before covid.
Everyone in China wears a mask. Lots of coal burning power plants and sanitary issues.
Most people, especially younger people who have never been anywhere or who have never bothered to do some research, would more than likely not understand. Having preached all that- some people wearing masks just plain don’t want to get a germ. Even though germs get on your clothing and ones own skin. Especially our shoes. Ever think about where your shoes take you? Maybe where other’s shoes have been. Who had their hand on the gas pump or the EV charging handle before you. Where “their” hands have been before you use it. Do you wear gloves when you put on your mask?
It really is better to let your body naturally develop an immunity.
Unless you’re in China. Definitely wear a mask in China. Your lungs will thank you.

I do my best to not "feel" like things don't make sense without looking at stats. While I "feel" California went overboard, their numbers of deaths per 1000 people were lower than states that bucked the mask mandates. Had they used Florida's logic and style of mask wearing, 40,000 more deaths. Sure, not allowing people to go on a pier is stupid, or closing golf courses. The main thing is not dramatizing your viewpoints to get a win in an argument and both sides of the argument did that in the USA. Wearing masks doesn't protect you, it protects others from you. If I pee on you and we are naked, then you get wet. If I'm wearing pants than only I get wet. The size of viral loads had a lot to do with who got covid and who didn't so that logic supports mask wearing. You touching your face isn't an argument against the mask, its against your use of the mask...lol But yeah, wear one or not. Just know the numbers. Wearing masks and lockdowns saved a lot of lives but it also broke our country. IT hurt every country. There are many takaways and learning opportunities we've all had. I really don't think many learned much outside of which political team they are on as far as in the USA goes.

Afterwards, I picture the cleaning lady coming into the room in the morning and putting them all skew again and mumbling under her breath, about the weird falang that upset the zen in the room. I guess it's just how they roll, because even the stickers on their cars are never straight.

Why should anyone care if someone else wears a face mask or not? You don't know their situation - they may be asthmatic or autoimmune and wearing it due to pollution, it may make them feel safer, it may be they have a pimple they are hiding, but whatever the reason, it's their business, not yours, don't want to wear one, don't wear it, but remember that others have the freedom to do as they please. More people need to learn to accept others choices when they are contrary to their own and stop being so fascist as to believe their way is the only right way. I love the Thai culture of things you have no control over are not worth worrying about so you just don't let it affect you. Little things that would have driven me crazy in the US and Australia stopped mattering after moving here because in the big scheme, if it doesn't really affect me, why let it. You become happier when you stop trying to control the world and focus only on what you actually have control over and immediately affects you.

Okay I'm going to go out on a limb here. I think, it is common practice here to follow suit then be an independent thinker. From the time they go to school if they're lucky graduate college everybody basically looks the same acts the same until they're on their own. Most of the time they're never really on their own. I believe they don't want to stand out for being an individual. A lot of them don't seek independent knowledge other than what they see around them or on the Facebook news. I also would say they respect the people around them. Except when they're behind the wheel of a vehicle, on a motorbike, or in the food line. Then it's always up to you. If we try to figure things out in Thailand it only hurts. Cheers

I don’t care if people wear a mask as long as I’m not forced too!!!
If your underwear does not stop a fart, a mask is not gonna help either!!
    Just my opinion

What I have noticed from meeting different cultures in the West and living in asia. Westerners expect things to be certain way and people should act accordingly. The people in Asia tend to not care much when anyone else is doing as long as it doesn't affect them in a negative way. However I had a difficult time with the face masks even though for the most part they were never mandatory here only inside certain shopping areas or Banks or government buildings.

    Hi Chuck and Paige.
I'm the idiot who randomly shook your and your wife's hands in a seaside restaurant in Rayong.
Please pass on my apologies to your mother in law and the crew who were traveling with you. I should have said "Sawadee" to them too. Please offer them my appologies.

Who cares., wearing a mass, that is how Thais think about the others.(not your business) Here in this country, you can do what you want, happy for what you do but not making some body hurt. So the others or whoever think to the one that make bad felling, that is their fault. The buddha said.

In a post-COVID-19 world, people who perceive themselves as less attractive than others are more likely to keep wearing masks when they’re highly motivated to make a good impression. That’s according to a recent study published in Frontiers in Psychology. The results consistently demonstrated that self-perceived unattractive individuals were more willing to wear a mask, as they believed it would benefit their attractiveness,” the authors

They were the reason why we all went, they wanted to go to the beach. This is not a normal group the ladies are less mature than the girls are and I'm not too bad to hang out with either.

The "Karen" phenomenon is all too real. People just need to do what they want and let others do their own thing. It's sad when people waste time worrying about what other people are doing instead of just living their own lives.
