Another great update Andrew, Good to see you getting away for a break. Interesting to see the beans and how the different drills have made a difference, I guess this is all part of the process when trying new crops. I like the idea of a mechanical weeder and I am sure it will be something that can be developed. Garfords farm machinery make some fantastic weeders, for weeding between plants aswell as between the rows. Great to see Henry, keep up the good work regarding the flooding. Thanks Andrew, looking forward to Wednesday update.
The weeder didn’t do any good with us but I think on sandier soils and smaller weeds it would. Im going to try to get to see a state of the art Garford working.
Great update! Henry is right, got to keep the issue of drainage on the agenda, the idea that the EA can’t afford the very thing they exist to do is ridiculous!
Pleased to see you in Wales again. Have spent many happy days down the Lleyn. On a wet day you can’t beat tucking up beside the fire with a bottle of Welsh whisky and the poet R S Thomas in hand but make sure you’ve confiscated all spare ropes!
Looks like the bean trails are very weather dependent and soil type Weeder again maybe soil type dependant but good that it can be adjusted for inter row cultivation but then I’d prefer the sugar beet inter row machine. Enjoy your break in wales
Cheers Bob. As I said though re the beans in the vid, they are no more weather dependent than wheat or barley. Huge acreage of those have been lost this year due to rain straight after drilling.
Another nice update Andrew, its a shame for Henry and very frustrating ,the weeder looks like it needs some way of penetrating the ground, we use a bag lifter makes it a lot easier unloading covered lorries and a little extra height for filling the spreader and drill
Wardy, I am so sorry for Henry's, and no doubt many others, problems with flooding. You can see just how upset he is and I would imagine it's totally soul destroying. Is there an online petition that viewers can sign to try and inject some life into the EA?
Great video as usual! I find with bag lifters you can either tip them down or crowd them back to see easier if you're putting bags on, you soon get used to it though. I personally find them quicker & safer than forks I looked at weeders when sfi first came out and for the lighter tine harrows someone said, "if you can see the weeds you're too late" so perhaps those weeds were a bit big for a fair trial?
Whoever is going to be in government after next Thursday the EA will still not be accountable. I agree with Henry it’s soul destroying to put good land into bird food rather food to feed the nation. See you Wednesday
Cracking update Andrew. Still feel for Henry that poor chap and if there not going to fix the bank it’s just going to get worse and worse every year, and where do they get there prices from 5 million to repair it Jesus. The council down here want to put up a 60x40 shed and they say it’s going to cost 4 million pounds to put up,makes no sense.
Enjoy North Wales Andrew and Co. I'm sure you know Ifor Williams are based in Corwen. But the Jamaican company I worked for also has a factory there. As well as packing Powders, Pulses and Spices for Retail sale they also make Encona Sauces there. West Indian Hot Pepper Sauce in a square bottle being most well known.
With the EA obviously ignoring the ongoing problem of the flooding around Henrys area, would this have anything to do with the new builds upstream in Lincoln at Swanpool? If it floods downstream it doesn't flood upstream at Swanpool? And hey presto a highly likely flooding issue is removed and the poor old farmer downstream gets flooded and ruined. Works out well for the council tax take. Or, I could be completely wrong. There is a reason why Swanpool has never been built on as it is/was a natural flood plain.
The EA need john price to sort that river out, was working by the bridge few weeks ago and trees and plants are coming back naturaly but some say the EA are going to charge him for restoring it, guess whst the houses near by didnt flood this year🤔
The EA couldn’t run a bath! They are totally useless, I hope the new government sorts them out and strips them of their powers. They have become an enforcement agency, who mark their own homework, , nothing more. 😡
Not sure about star weeded, seen similar years ago on market garden, if I remember we could adjust the angle and width, it’s must design fault or old age? on rollers, for 11 years old had some moneies worth, great blog
The weeder didn’t do any good with us but I think on sandier soils and smaller weeds it would. I think it’s a design fault with the rolls but it’s the only issue we’ve had in 11 years so I’m not complaining!
Good update Andrew , hope you all have a nice break and the weather improve. I hope the EA mans up and realize the cost they have caused in loss of crops and property and compensate, I will agree with Henry they have had enough time now to get a plan in action and do something to help prevent anymore damage to his land. Weeder was interesting but I wasn't to impressed .
I don’t know about the new weeder ,however I use an Einbock tinted weeded .We used it 5 times on beans this year ,twice between sowing and crop emergence, and then every 10 days or so for the next month. This is because it will only take small weeds out ,it pulls the weeds out or buries them. Not perfect, but the beans look ok.
We are considering it. I’m going to try to find a band sprayer so only take out some because the beans really need them to hold them up and make combining easier.
Lissington rolling cultavator is what you need very ajustable to crop and soil type you probaley have one in the nettles that your father or granddad used
I take photis of our barley at home quite regularly (to prove direct drilling works🤣) planted earlier than last year but come to head later, been a tough time through may and june, to cold i think, our lambs have been much slower growing and fattening aswel this year
It only floods when the river bank collapses which is due to lack of maintenance from the EA. It’s happened twice in 5 years, he does t get a penny in compensation so to take it out of food production and put it into stewardship means he’ll get income in those years.
Thank you Andrew. Another informative edition of WWW. Poor Henry. Enjoy your hols with dogs included. Talking about the next Government, who the heck do we country folk vote for? I've absolutely no idea who would best represent our farmers now.
It’s so difficult I’ll agree. I try to avoid talking politics because some people have very strong views and you end up in a row! I don’t know yet.
