This is such amazing piano playing, he really is one of the absolute greats for me. And it’s such a perfect example of a pianist who doesn’t need to rely on speed to convey the maestoso character - To have such tonal and rhythmic control is majestic enough. Wow!
I am currently learning this piece, it's typically Rachmaninoff: A pain when learning, but a blessing when playing! I love this turn into d-Minor in the main theme. It seems like a short sigh, nostalgically remembering better times or imagining them...
dont throw at me tomatoes, but where is there an insane voicing? Its just what should be. I mean, Rachmaninoff wrote a tenuto over all the notes of a tenor melody, they should sound like that by itself. If other professional pianists cannot do that, they dont deserve to be pianists at all.
Yeah, the voicings are exactly as they should sound, I believe the uploader chose a more catchy title (which is not necessarily wrong, Sokolov is indeed great).

In fact maestoso is not speedy at all, by definition. "Majestade" is usually attributed to "the king". When a king shows up, is he running? 😂
Great Sokolov, great interpretation of a masterpiece!

A wonderful interpretation of this immensely difficult prelude. Sokolov never disappoints.
This is one of my favorite preludes, never heard Sokolov perform it before. Sounds excellent!
Stimmt!
wonderful performance. thank you
Impressive👍💯❤️
THANKS BRAVO MAESTRO💯💯💯💯💯💯...HELLO FROM FINLAND
Maestro is the best!
The blond girl in the audience (beginning) was shaking her head in admiration!
Doesn't get much better than this.
Rachmaninov STRONG
I love rachmaninoff ❤❤
Sokolov again!
Compelled by artistry's call, I crafted a visual ode to the maestro, and in its creation, I gleaned wisdom aplenty.
💐🌺❤❤❤
This whole recital is just perfection
Great as always

Hi, where has this been performed & recorded? Greetings, Jan
Hi Jan, this is from the World human rights concert in Geneva, Dec 2021.
It really sound like two different sections of an orchestra.
Almost too much rubato, otherwise yes, the voicing and the middle section are a fine marvel

No worries, I will not throw you tomatoes, you are feel to express your thoughts here.

I think you have misunderstood the colloquial meaning of "insane". Here it means "unbelievably good".
I agree with you. It was an excellent performance but there was no out of the world voicing.
