Happiness is often associated with feelings of the senses; it is an emotional response. Joy, on the other hand, comes from within. It is a much more enduring feeling that persists no matter the circumstance. I was taught it is ok not to feel happy but in the spiritual life we can experience joy when we really believe God does love each one of us no matter the circumstance. Therefore I focus on contentment rather than happiness. It has been my experience as I spend more prayer time with God in relationship I feel a sense of joy that is usually long lasting. When I receive absolution in the confessional, I experience joy!!

1:18 :" ... My dad said I entered religious life because I hated Manual Work!" At this point, am riveted and already know it's going to be a great episode! Thanks, Fathers.

A little late and I’m sure you won’t see this, but do recommend spiritual direction for someone with severe scrupulosity? I am already seeing a therapist but feel I need spiritual help too.

It's very important to have a good sense of humor in the religious life.😉 Thank you Fathers for a very helpful discussion.

Thank you Fathers. This one was heavy but in a good way. I think this topic should be talked about more. I have always read and heard that joy is a sign of the Holy Spirit but addressing the idea that one can be on the road to holiness even if our lives are not full of joy was helpful to me. I understood the need caveat parts of what was being communicated and appreciate the overall idea of what was being said. Thank you!

I hate folding laundry too. Had my laundry washed, dried and folded for me for 6 weeks at a hotel, it was amazing.

Hello Fathers, would you, could you perhaps can you do a program on the difference between Contemplation and Meditation and present examples of both these forms of prayer. Thank you for your consideration.
