Mariah never had a problem with Whitney. The industry and media tried to maker her compete with Whitney because she was the only female that came along with the technical skill that rivaled Whitney’s as well. In the early days they both had similar tones which probably stemmed from the techniques they used to sing. The industry wanted Mariah to be the new “white Whitney” and she refused to let them make her that. She’s bi-racial and proud. She loved urban music and she wasn’t gonna pretend she wasn’t those things just so she could entertain the colorism war of America. They have both set the standard of singing in the past 30 years. When you think about powerful vocals and high vocal range you think of Nippy and Mimi.👌

I like that Mariah Carey mentioned that her label made her work with the same producers on her debut album that had worked with Whitney for Whitney’s debut and sophomore albums. That would cause tension if you didn’t know that Mimi had already written her own songs prior to her debut. The label pushed her to do that and that’s good to know.
Mariah has been asked on several occasions about Whitney since her death, and she always seems genuinely sad and upset.
