Sheez! Playing traditional Blues pentatonics like that requires SOOOO many details SOOO many hours of playing and listening. There is a lifetime in those licks.
@@luxibrono, he’s not playing outside at all! He is obviously able to play outside if he wanted because he is a monster but isn’t the case on this video. And I agree a hundred percent that playing pentatonics like him in this video is a lifetime commitment.
Josh really takes the blues and injects funk, country, jazz, the phrasing and licks are just so good, and never feel like he is just playing fast for the sake for it. Great note choice, great everyrhing. The best!
@@medicine_box and the guy has zero ego. He was touring this year as Joe Bonamassa's backup guitarist. Granted Joe is more of a household name, Josh is so far beyond Joe playing wise.
The brilliant guitarist really spans the epochs heard including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, Clapton, Freddie King , Albert King and Josh Smith :) . Big player. Josh greetings from Poland
i used to play that exactly lick hundred times when i broke into jazz in my teen days, i picked it up from Charlie Christian....i mean the short and brief lick from 3:43 to 3:45....
Josh is an absolute monster player, it's so inspiring but also scary and intimidating. I can't even fathom the amount of hours behind an instrument you need to be able to come up with improvisation of that caliber.
I saw this guy at Jimmy Buffet's when he was 17, maybe. He came off stage and up to my table, and picked up my beer bottle and played a killer slide solo with it . I was a long haired rock guitar player and he did it to say "take that old man " It was very impressive . I recently saw him with Joe Bonamasa in Fort Wayne ,In 2022. Joe said "well at least I am the second best guitar player on stage tonight"
holy fucking shit serisouly I've never heard something like that before. Believe I've watch a tons of videos of all great guitarists but IMO you are the best improviser I've never ever seen

Wow i love josh smith hes up there defo with the best blues players his phrasing everything the licks coming out there wow surprise the guitar didnt have steam coming off it
no one could ever match SRV, that's a fact...but Josh Smith's got his own name...There are quite a few guitarist in the 21st century blues scene whose names aren't really known...Josh Smith, Tab Benoit...and of course, Christone "Kingsman" Ingram, who kicks the devil out of the hell....Blues is safe, mate....
@@mytelecasterworld3336 oh god thanks for the lesson mate but those are all very well known blues players, and no SRV is not untouchable that is total hero worship nonsense you need to expand your knowledge of guitar players beyond blues and rock.
Definitely hear some danny gatton in there not that it's a bad thing .. this guy I just recently discovered since I went underground after shredder after shredder became the way to play . Been a long time since I was excited to hear someone's material

Probably the best one for me right now.
That little slide he does around 1:16 is unbelievable

Josh is almost too polished, borderline machine like. It's mind blowing.
I sense nothing machine-like about his playing. It's extremely tasty and musical.
@@griiseknoen I agree but I don't think that's how he meant it
Yet he still plays loose…and in flow which makes it that much sweeter

Outta box blues guitar player. Simply Awesome
Such a great player. Awesome phrasing and great tone.

That signature Josh Smith tone and phrasing! Eyes close, I can definitely identify that it is him.
Theres a lick he does at 2.24 of the video blows me away

It's awesome - and Josh looks he snagged a quick nap during the first half, despite the guitar being on fire :). So much stuff to learn from this ..!
wow...great
The mid tone reminds me a bit of Robben Ford dumble tone, Josh has great style
Awesome!
So melodic
Smooth as silk and still sweet sadness ... bad ass
This is insane. 😯
Awsome
Impresionante!!!!
Something between Robben Ford and Greg Koch, amazing.
He smoked that solo so hard and this is prob just like a warmup jam for him. IMO if there’s any successor to SRV today, it’s Josh Smith.
