That's because you're not the ideal rich customer they want to attract. They aren't trying to attract the average person. It's like Target vs asking your Butler to buy it for you. They only want to attract people who are so rich they are eager to waste their money. To people like that, shallow things like Brand and Connection and Family is ALL that matters. Doesnt matter if they lose the case, they want to feel like they are buying the ultra best

No unfortunately in the business world rich people are going to be shallow and will judge you on what you wear. It is very naive to think it won't happen when fashion is entirely based on brand name. Look at Apple phones, they work the same way. Luxury is whatever people say luxury is. They have specific high market clients who want to buy the IMAGE. And don't think it's because the image works. They might look good and lose the case. Doesn't matter because the lawyer still gets paid, and they rich customer only wants a lawyer he can waste money on so he FEELS like he is getting the best service money can afford. Otherwise, he feels like his money is being wasted. The way the ultra rich think is very different to how normal rich think. And that's very different to how upper middle class thinks. Brand name matters, it shouldn't matter to the average person, but to rich people the law doesn't apply to them, they can pay bribes to break the law, and having a rich looking lawyer is part of that image. It's part of the job basically. Hence why Lamborghini doesn't run advertisements for the average person to watch etc. If you can capture a market of only having rich customers, spending alot of money on your wardrobe to attract them is a worthwhile investment. There's always another rich fool eager to part with his money and it's better to have 1 wealthy client who lets you prolong and draw out the case of a white color crime, than 10 rough necks trying to beat a murder charge

That is the employee's first week on the job at a super high end law firm, so image is going to be everything. Especially when your boss hired him, when he wasn't qualified for the job. He didn't want Mike to stand out dressing like he didn't belong there.
@@gilbertoflores7397 that's the problem #1 with all of this. If what they praise is the suit, then there's a problem with the whole firm. I get that there's a psychological thing about this and that's why they opt to do these marketing stunts, but still... it's nonsense how much law firms care about this. And I doubt that if they paid him better, he would waste it all on custom suits. Different mindsets.
@@ReversedPolaritySome professions like legal, academics, politics, sales, consulting value appearance much more than other professions like engineering, medicine, research etc. My theory is that those professions are about somewhat intangible things where you have to inspire trust of the buyer, so appearance is one of the things that inspires trust on sight before qualifications.
@@MK-lh3xd indeed, that's the main gist behind uniforms and symbols. I understand the psychology behind the marketing and the persuasion of a uniform, and I get that lawyers may want to dress differently to convince difficult clients with their status. I just think that it's a bit elitist to praise custom-made suits over a suit that looks decent and professional just to blend in with the firm's politics or how much they waste on suits. Lawyers are not supposed to be Victoria's Secret models, they're supposed to represent clients first and foremost. I just think the whole status thing is not representative of a good lawyer, it's just visual marketing for the unaware. The effect works quite well but many clients can see past all that.
I met some major law firm partner guys and some of them are like this, but rest were not. They said what you say to the client matters more than what you wear, and really rich people rarely care about what brand you wear or what car you drive because they lost the need to "flex" themselves
This can’t be true, Hollywood propaganda has programmed into me a view of rich people as being as petty as an 8th grade bully that makes fun of you for having Walmart shoes. Don’t tell me they are no bs, result oriented people, that care more about competence than clothes.
@@jonmaster5000nah that's actually wrong. They don't need them to dress rich, but they expect their lawyers to BE rich. They will also turn down the average looking person for the important jobs. And that's only like the top 1% billionaires. The multi millionaires absolutely care about appearance especially if they are new money and don't want to take any chances with legal or financial matters. Appearance does matter, and even if you think it's shallow, there's many shallow rich people who are looking to buy that brand image because it's a more surefire way to prove competency than letting an average person take the chance. Why risk it? They have so much money they WANT to spend it so it feel like they actually worked for something that helped them.

They also probably do that to be straightforward hand open and are not going to lie to you. They'll probably say you are fat or this you does not suit you.
No. 100 dollars for a suit is a crappy suit. 500 dollars for a suit is still pretty crappy. Anything tailored with good materials is 1500 minimum. Nice suits are generally between 2000-3000 minimum depending on the season. Obviously, not everyone can afford good suits, but people who know about the craftmanship will automatically recognize a cheap suit and a good one. It can be a deal breaker in certain professions.
One reason I could never do one of these wealth-oriented jobs is that I’d want to save the money but I know I’d be pressured to spending it on shit I don’t care for, like expensive clothes.

All suits look the same to me I can’t tell when someone is wearing an expensive one
Usually it’s the thickness and texture. Thin and flat suits are cheap. Ironically better in super hot situations but otherwise they fall flat to a lot of other suits. You might not be able to tell the difference when looking at 1 person if it’s a cheap or expensive suit, but if you see a cheap one next to an expensive suit in real life, it’s much more obvious which is which. 😊
When the Tailor is snobby,
You're in the right fckn place ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
That's because you're not the ideal rich customer they want to attract. They aren't trying to attract the average person. It's like Target vs asking your Butler to buy it for you. They only want to attract people who are so rich they are eager to waste their money. To people like that, shallow things like Brand and Connection and Family is ALL that matters. Doesnt matter if they lose the case, they want to feel like they are buying the ultra best
One hack is to look at the fitting, if the suit looks like it’s custom made then it’s on the expensive side
A cheap fitted suit will look better than an ill fitting expensive one.
was a great show wish they kept making them (and dude came back full time)
I remember one of our analysts (senators ofc) had to go to a congressman's office for a presentation. He came back and told the senator that though he gave the presentation, the congressman and his staff looked like they weren't listening at all. In another office, he was scheduled but was brushed off when he got there. The senator took him shopping and bought him an expensive suit, a watch, and a pair of expensive glasses. Every presentation he gave wearing those things was always met with enthusiasm.

That makes sense, with an expensive suit he was treated like a lobbyist. Everybody in DC wants to talk to the lobbyists and their money.

@@pharaohsmagician8329 No I'm talking about what makes you look good in a suit, not what's good for business optics.

The expensive suits last a long time. So, overall you won't be spending often or more than other clothes.
