£29,995 in UK for the basic model. I think that’s too much for the range - it is competitive now but I expect this won’t come it until well into 2025. Needs to be £24,995.
It must be really tough for motor manufacturers at this time with governments forcing electric car sales and fines etc. I imagine that car prices are getting much higher than the actual production costs just so they can cover the expected fines. This is such a shame. How is it that governments can dictate this when it is people that buy the things and of they don’t want them manufacturer’s are penalised. What an odd world we live in. We have seen the problems with all manufacturers in the UK and on the continent and it must be so disheartening for them. The Chinese companies must be laughing their heads off over this downfall and filling the gaps regardless of any tariff increase as their costs and overheads must be so much lower. Furthermore, all these manufacturers have a huge range of cars to sell and support. A company, say like Tesla, sells 2 cars in the UK and a total of 4 worldwide. Can you imagine, if say Volkswagen, sold 4 types of car what they could achieve. Always enjoy your reviews Mark and brilliant that you get invited to all these launches.
People get so angry in the comments, it’s an electric car. There’s plenty of other cars you people can pick from if you’re not a fan. I’ve got an EV and I absolutely LOVE it and wouldn’t change now.
For that battery size and only having a peak charging power of 100 kWp, it seems to have a very flat charging curve achieving really good 78kW on average on an ideal 10 to 80% charging session. This means that a normal 10 to 80 session shouldn’t take more than 23 minutes, which is ok compared to other similar cars.
Liking the muck box in the Puma boot … but EV3 is gonna walk all over it… Puma battery way too small … they’re doing a Stellantis - well, if you want something physically smaller than a 5008. Fine for around town and short commutes - but if you’re into going on regular excursions, a bigger battery is the order of the day. Still think that the Hyundai/Kia 64kW is a kind of price-to-range sweet spot. Just been driving friends’ cars over the past week - a newish , runout model Fiesta, and an older (22years!) Ibiza. Both, perfectly lovely cars to drive, but the “balm of the calm” getting back into the Soul was just lovely … effortless. Or maybe, it’s that I’m getting too old 😂!!
Nobby, another great review. Seems to be a nice car with good range, if it is accurate! Price is not bad but depends on what competitors like Kia will be charging. If it was under €30,000 they would have a winner.
It won’t get anywhere near that range , do the figures , most EVs get around 3 miles per KWH and this thing does 130 miles ! Not so good now is it ! To get the figures Ford quote it would have to be as efficient as a Tesla , and that’s not going to happen with an ICE car converted to an EV !
@@NobbyOnCars Well I apologised , but it seems we’re only allowed to put positive comments on here . I have an EV and like I said I get angry with legacy carmakers giving people cars like this that only further anti EV feeling . Maybe I’m a cynic , and maybe you’re positive about everything . @@stevejewiss532Which ‘most’ EV’s do 3 miles per kWh? Do tell. There may be a few, but most modern ones are way better than that. Even my lowly Peugeot e3208 does 4.2 in summer and 3.4 in winter without a heat pump.
Good review. I've had many Fords over the years and the Puma is a great car. However the price is ambitious for a revamped ICE car up against serious competition. It's not too far off the price of the EV3 and even the Tesla Model 3....I think Ford may struggle unless lease costs are cheap. I hope it does well.
Hi Nobby. I said it to friends etc that Ford have messed up. Too many electric cars not enough phev or petrol models. Only the kuga phev, diesel etc or the puma which my wife has her second gen one , as it’s a lovely car. The capri is ugly . I like the explorer we but no phev option. I think they have made a huge mistake getting rid of the bread and butter focus. Who has €40-50,000 to spend on a car? Hence the lay offs in Ford.
Phev's are still artificially high in price partly due to tax breaks in UK for companies but current UK govt has signalled this may change next year so hoping prices come down on PHEV's as demand lessens a little. Not just price but hope factory lead times shorten too on Phev's.
Shame about the range ..just not good enough to compete well for a 2025 EV and the price is too high..would expect to see serious discounts from dealers in New Year especially with regards to EU targets /fines.
I don't know what it is about the yellow ford are using for their review cars but it really does the design no favours. The Capri in particular just looked like a taxi from the future and this has the same vibes.
I miss the Fiesta ! 😢 The Fiesta was better for the environment than any EV. Small footprint, economical & less harmful to make & will likely last longer in the road as it’s less complex to repair than an EV.
What gave you the idea that ice cars are easier to repair than evs? An ev motor has far fewer parts than an ice, thus less to need repairing and also why they require less servicing.
@ I was expecting this comment. While the EV motor does have less moving parts than an ICE, EV motors still do have bearings that fail even prematurely that require specialist tools and expertise as they’re sealed units. Likewise on the EV battery if a module fails its specialist tools and expertise. An ICE has serviceable parts that are easily accessible and less complex , less expensive to change than EV batteries/motor bearings. EVs are more reliant on software to communicate with components such as traction battery , motor and drivetrain which is less likely for the physical ICE car. I guess compare the 1st generation iPhone to a corded phone with physical buttons , which one do you think still works & easier to repair ? Can you still get updates for the 1st generation iPhone? Does the corded phone need updating?
Ummmm….. that’s all I can say on this EV, it’s just meh all round and £30k in the UK for an entry level model with a real range of max 200 miles. Not good enough Ford, this looks like models that came out 3 years ago.
It's too expensive. I mightve considered renewing my pcp deal for a Fiesta EV from my current mk8.5 ST, but now I'm priced out of the market for £31K basic entry fugly ass Puma with less range and performance. What are you doing Ford??
That’s actually just Ford’s own design, not VWs. They may have had a parts sharing thing with the sourcing of powertrain equipment and battery cells etc but other than that it’s all their own
What gets me really angry is reviewers like you have given this Puma the thumbs up when you know it won’t get that range ! You’re feeding the anti EV agenda because you say this is great it’s range is ok bla blah blah and yet if you actually do the figures it would have to be more efficient than a Tesla to get that figure ! On your average 3 miles per KWH this thing will only do 130 miles ! 130 miles ! For 30 grand ! Please don’t keep giving the anti EV mob ammunition and stop supporting companies like Ford that really are fudging their figures ! I just why the feeling you’ve all been paid by Ford to say good things !
First of all, I haven’t been paid by anyone. I make revenue from RUclips, exclusively. Secondly, WLTP figures are quoted in a release of a car when I haven’t driven a vehicle yet. When I have, I will give real world consumption as I do in all of the videos that I have produced. Now, imagine I walked into YOUR place of work and SH*T all over your work in front of your superiors. That’s exactly what you’ve done in my video without any basis or proof of what you’ve spouted off on so forgive me if I have little time for mouthpieces like yourself. If you’re that bothered about anti EV people, you should get yourself a hobby. Have a GREAT day.
@ Applogies but it’s really not difficult to work out the range , and as I said you should be taking people like Ford to task on this . The anti EV lot hang on everything to do with EVs and use it as a bat to hit them with and Ford are doing that no favours , they’re not even doing themselves favours because when someone goes into a Ford showroom or watches your video they’ll think great 234 miles I’ll have that , then it does 130 . I’ve watched all the Puma EV reviews and not one crriticises the small battery , I do apologise for taking it out on yours , yours was the last one I saw , but what Ford is doing does not help the EV side of things and I suppose I’m more angry with them , so again I apologise . By the way I think you do a great job your videos are some of the best . Maybe with the new Jag and this I lost the will to live a bit .
I think if Ford can stick to a sensible price, it will sell well.

Ford might be onto a winner….IF the efficiency is there. Can see this playing well with families as a second car (cost dependent)

It will be interesting to see how long Ford are willing to carry ev losses which are apparently fairly substantial on each vehicle..
