That first ad made me want to buy one 😂. It was like watching a apple ad
Great find. Thanks!
No worries. I was amazed to find it. Just in a box full of tapes recorded in the 90s
That's a nice looking car even now.
couldn't agree with you more there Tom
We used to have one. Still remember the orange plunger under the steering wheel that was the choke.
Passed my test in a 1984 1.6 diesel, seemed nippy enough at the time and very economical
12:13 a speedometer that doesn't work
MrJackpoppy shows that she wasn’t driving it, probably on the back of a low trailer.
excellent
@@scotiajinker8392 because they didn't trust women back then
The headlights don't line up with the bonnet, the bumpers don't line up with the body, the indicators don't line up with anything. The car looks like it has been crash repaired by some dodgy backstreet garage and this is how it came new? Quality control?
Hoop yes shocking panel fit
And they are still driving on till today. I wonder how many small cars of 2019 we will see doing the same thing in 2055...
Hoop you are a Knob
@@rockuk43 Oh spot the fiesta owner!
@@hoop5824 Wrong drive Bentley continental gt Daughter as a fiesta fine car so your point
My Dad had a Ghia,it was a superb wee car.And I have a modern Fiesta which is like a spaceship by comparison!
Imagine watching this and then thinking “Shit!! That’s my old car”
My grandad also probably touched this as it went through Dagenham.
My grandpa owned a fiesta popular 950. The most basic version. It was loud, slow and uncomfortable. But very reliable. Netherttheless we suggested that when he sold it he treated himself to a bit more luxury especially as they often did long trips visiting family. Maybe a fiesta ghia 5 speed or an escort since Ford treated him well. A few years later he announced they had got a new car. And what was it. Something more luxurious? Nope. A fiat panda 750cc! The loudest car ever and a right pig to get started in the winter too. They loved both cars.
My Ford Fiesta MK 2 with 50 hp is from 1985 and now 34 years old, not restored, in the original paint, 61,000 km run, no emission control and he runs like a sewing machine. I love this car as a reminder of the 80s and therefore it is only brought out of the garage in good weather
Well said
I swear the Ford logo is timeless.
Had a 1.1 pop in metallic blue and stuck an XR2 bodykit and pepperpots on it from the scrappers.
Thanks for uploading this. I find these videos fascinating. It's so sad and in many ways unbelievable that this astonishingly successful car is no longer made and I never liked Fords.
Built in reversing lights? Oh Ford, u are spoiling us.
I feel really delighted of myself, that I've recently purchased a 1:18th scale model of the Ford Fiesta, in Mk1 XR2 specification
The side body mouldings save my husband a fortune in repairs----imagine an advertising copywriter saying that now----😊.
'It's even got new wheels which are spherical and not square, makes driving a real treat!'
Lets be honest, Fords marketing department was at the top of its game on this one!
They sure were
Those shut lines lol. That's why I love them
You can almost get in the car without opening the door 😂
This was such a great design. My Mom had one and my Aunty.
Loved driving my Mum’s bottom of the range Popular. No headrests or radio. 😀
The 80s - 90s was peak car, if only we could have simple affordable cars like this today.
It's even got a passenger mirror as standard! 😂 😂 😂
Still same old tappet rattle though! my fist car was a d reg popular plus
"Many advanced engineering features".... Haha I do love a bit of sarcastic humor in advertising! :-D
Had an A reg popular plus! It was a cracking little thing. Not having much in the way of an interior meant it was actually pretty spacious inside...glad I never crashed it though it would have folded like a paper cup!
These look better than the ones we had in the states. We used to get them as rental cars when I was in the Navy. That's what you got if you got the economy car. They were fine unless you had big inclines. Going up those steep hills in Hawaii and California it sounded like a lawnmower and the RPMs were near red line.
Damn! My 2017 fiesta doesnt have a trunk button or a light in the glovebox.....and i got a loaded model!
Or a cigar lighter 😁
@@tonyeff4447 that's half true lol at least you get 2 sockets.
Look at 8:19, no rear seatbelts. They were an optional extra in 1983.
I didn't think they'd even be an option then! I'm sure the law for wearing rear seat belts only came in in 1994.
Well they wouldn't be an option after the law, they would be mandatory.
- "The car's turned a few heads". Yeah... When they're upside down after flipping over at 10 Kph...
never thought i'd hear my old mk2 described as "aerodynamic" 🤣🤣
First seconds I thought it was filmed by a drone :p great vid!!!
The Popular was the big seller. You could always recognise the exhaust sound of a Fiesta.
Theres a 1.1 X reg fiesta for sale near me for £3500. I drove past it yesterday. Reminded me of my very first ever car, a 1.1 X reg Fiesta, 4 speed.
We need cars like this today.
Integrated reverse lamps. Faints in excitement.
had two MK2 XR2's.......they were fun.
The Xr2 was the car to own in the 80s
Had a Caspian Blue 1100L made in 1984.Lovely car.
1:55 That bass boost got me
it's not bass boost, it's overdriven audio
The Peugeot 205 blew away everything in that class back then.
People are taking the piss out of this car ..But please just hang on... Let's look at the competition in 1983 Austin Metro... Renault 5 ...I rest my case.
I had the pleasure of owning a MK 2 Ford Fiesta many years ago. I can confirm these were a cracking little car.
Back in the day before everybody drove around in a big dumb 2-ton SUV.
Well done Ford for this little gem of a car.
12:16 either the speedo has suddenly stopped working (no surprise) or the car is on a flatbed.
Can't be on a flatbed , nothing in front pulling and 80s special effects weren't that advanced and it would be obvious if it were a blue screen. Speedo obviously knackered even in sales demonstrator model. Ford build quality for you.
@Arsenal Emirates Yeah. Too many years using Windows, "blue screen" burnt into my brain :)
Arsenal Emirates blue screens are a thing
The cars only going about 10mph, the speedo only starts at 10mph on them. Look how slow the railings are going by and the traffic ahead is a mile away. Probably had to slow right down when the humongous 80s mobile video camera was shoved next to her!
...... the molded plastic side panels will save my husband a fortune on body repairs!
Hahaha brilliant
Those were the days ..... we used to be united and society was lot more tolerant. What have we done to our country now !!!!
Knight Rider it’s now the dawn of the right wingerism. Through the 2020’s 😐
9:33 Alligator
My first car, 1983 a reg fiesta mk2 ghia bit rusty but only 450 quid in 1997, next was an xr2 which I promptly crashed! Luckily they were cheep and I bot another one for 600 quid
the times when cars had carburators, no cats, ...
and are absolutely not allowed in literally any LEZ city in Europe anymore lol … those are the kind of cars that drove me home from the hospital when I was born
7:18
Anybody else think she was about to take a piss ? ? 🤔🙄
No, I think that's just you
Now that you mention it, yes. Lol!
I did
A brand new car with 2397 miles on thee clock! Then 2620 at 6.18. That's had its day already!
Had one straight from the showroom had it years only money spent was the usual wear and tear bulbs tyres fan belt etc
