Great video! I attended a workshop and learnt how to make kokedama but the person running the workshop told us to soak the kokedama every 2nd day in a bucket of water for at least 30 mins,. She said you needed them to sink, if they weren't sinking they weren't being watered properly. Within in 4 weeks both of the ones I made rotted and died. It is so sad that some people give the wrong info, I am so glad your info is accurate and clear

Does the season matter in terms of fertilizing? For example in winter time is it required less or more to fertilize? Also does this apply to watering too?
Hi really great tutorial. What if I dunk the entire kokedama intro water (just the ball part)? The person who sold it to me told me to dunk it until bubbles stop appearing from the mossball
You can dunk it, but depending on how dry the ball is and the contents of the soil, it can take quite some time for water to completely permeate through the substrate. Letting it soak is easy and you don't really have to babysit it :)

I'd like to lnow that too.That's a great question I made a snake plant kokedama and i wonder how try can let it get. And i am now so tempted to make more kokedamas but i am worried it's not suitable for some plants.
@@skirmantab7383 Hi :o) I have done quite a lot of Kokedama now and the thing to think about is your moss. Pretty much any plants would live as Kokedama providing the internal soil you use suits their required conditions. But if you want greener, or 'live' moss on the outside of your ball you have to think about the conditions the moss likes - ie usually bright, indirect light (no direct sun). This means usually suited to plants that also like those conditions. However, as well as indoor plants I've also done outdoor plants and have recently done some lavender plants - I try to shade the ball (and I also spray/mist it as well as water it) and they do ok although the moss doesn't stay dark green. My advice? Just give it a go! :o) If you lose some, well that's a lesson learned. But I do orchids too and they love it. Maidenhair ferns and Maranta plants are the happiest they could ever be because they want moist roots but never standing in water, so the moss ball provides those conditions perfectly. But just give it a go :o)
Thanks for that great response. Here where we are, it is an extremely dry place and it is very hard to keep the moss green. You either have to have a humidifier going, have a humidity tray or some kind of enclosure. Many kokedama here end up with the moss turning brown after drying out. I suppose it's just the challenge of a super dry climate.
Thanks for this very useful information. I am about to attempt making my first kokedama with a plumosa fern. Currently looking for live moss in Calgary and will be visiting Pisces Pets to see if there is any moss there. Do you know of any other sources for moss?
Great one..I have aglaonema red sima kokedama wrapped with jute..all its leaves are dropping off..nd with burnt apperance at leaf tips..am watering it regularly like u do..any tips to make my kokedama become live☹️
My kokdeama is quite soft, and the guy I bought it from ask me to soak it in water and take it out immediately everyday is that necessary and I notice my moss turning white and hard is this normal
Care will be highly dependent on the materials used and your kokedama was made. I use a well draining soil mix in mine so I like to give them a nice deep watering each time I water. If yours retains water for a long time then I can see that the dipping method will prevent over watering and keep the moss more hydrated. The humidity level where you live will also affect how and how often you water. If you are using hard water for watering, it could be that the white you're seeing is minerals left behind by the water.

I dunk mine in a bucket with fertilizer. It appears to be inside a cage and I would like to know how to replenish it so it can look fresh and green.

Burnt tips are probably a sign of your plant needing more water. Make sure to allow your kokedama to soak deeply when you water.
