Kourosh Esfandiari but 2 Elvis songs. I know it's hard to scale the 50s without Elvis. Let's not critique to much. Something like this takes a bit of research.
Why there isnt Nirvana, Queen, MJ, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The who, The Doors, Jenis Joplin or Led Zeppelin why? So many singers and Bands
It’s a shame about the quality of the older stuff, sure we can still sing the songs, but what they originally sounded like is lost to the deterioration of the records
Back in those days, music was felt as a live experience, going to concerts. That's where you had the posibility to listen to an orchestra or band with all their capabilities. Those legendary live concerts are so far away...
The compilation had a bias against African-American musicians, including black jump blues artists of the 1940s and 1950s; early black rock musicians like Little Richard and Chuck Berry; black soul, R&B, and disco artists; Stevie Wonder; Michael Jackson; and so many more.
@@makeadifference4all There were many black musicians shown up until the 1940's, so to say there was a bias isn't totally accurate. Robert Johnson would've never made the list if that was the case. Why did they stop showing black musicians after the 40's is the question.
Not me. I got this in my recommendations after watching a New York City over time 1700-3000 video. I didn't even know there was a 1940s rap video!!!!!!!
Uh, the 60s without JANIS JOPLIN or JIMI HENDRIX?? The 80s with no Michael Jackson or Madonna?? The 90s without NIRVANA, for god's sake? What were the criteria for this list?
Most of them from 1946 onward match the list of "Top Billboard Song of the Year" according to the list at this link - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Year-End_number-one_singles_and_albums - However, it seems I've heard a few different ones quoted in the past than those on the list - 1965 Satisfaction and 1969 Aquarius / Let the Sun Shine being among them.
If an Act didn't have the Billboard, (USA), No.1 Single of the Year, they are not in the List. That is how Andy Gibb had the No.1 Hit of 1978, with 'Shadow Dancing'. In the UK etc. it did next to nothing - No.42 in our Weekly Chart. His Brothers, in The Bee Gees, had Billboard's No.2 Hit for 1978, ('Night Fever'), No.4 Hit for 1978, ('Staying Alive'), and No.6 Hit for 1978, ('How Deep Is Your Love').
State of Landston Official Kanye?!? Kanye!??! Granted Kanye may not be at his best right now but from 2005-2013 Kanye was a fucking god his sound and 808’s created a whole new side genre to hip-hop and his music was amazing
State of Landston Official Did I ever say I wanted to change your opinion? No not once just wanted to debate a point with you but if you wanna get all defensive for no good reason go right ahead
No Frank Sinatra, no Michael Jackson, no Bee Gees, no Madonna, no Celine Dion, no Queen, no Led Zeppelin, no Nirvana, no Eminem? WTF?!!! I didn't talk for my fav peeps, I talked for people that defined WHOLE MUSICAL ERAS!!!!
I was gonna answer with the argument I used in other replies (about that this video used a database which holds the most sold songs in any year)... but on second thought, I think you're right. The problem is the title of this video, it should have been "Most sold songs year by year (1890-2019), but not "evolution of popular music".
I really enjoyed this video, the only thing is- where the hell are freakin Michael Jackson and Madonna?! and what about the amazing 1939's Somewhere over the rainbow?
Tommynka Good video but, indeed, where is Michael Jackson?. Common now, talk about popular music, he's right up there through the out decades. This isn't complete without him.
Or heck, in the _'90s_ even: "AND IIIIIIII, WILL ALWAYS LOOOOVE YOUUUUUUUUU..." I mean, okay, rap is super popular. But can't they be bothered to even RAP properly? By that I mean, speak. It's spoken-word with music backing. SPEAK! NOT MUMBLE! :P
Y’all heard that runway song ‘clap clap clap clap clap that ass bitch shake that camel toe let me see them pussy lips’ I mean it kinda slaps but it’s trash...
That guy in the year 1951 gave a magnificent evolution in music industry. You transpired how music really is. Thanks and salute you sir for your wonderful contribution!
I can’t be the only person here who likes old music AND modern music, right? Everyone in this comment section seems to be dissing modern music. Really though, modern music is great, but it doesn’t hurt to listen to classics every once in a while. Everyone has their own opinions so can y’all stop dissing others preferences?
I get what you're saying and there's nothing wrong with you liking modern music but we have just as much right to dislike modern music as you do liking it. The problem many of us have with modern music is most all of it is autotuned and promotes sex, drugs and violence which I don't consider to be real music. No hate on you for liking modern music, but we have our right to dislike what we want for it is just as much our opinion as you have yours.
Lucid Vision I’m just seeing all these comments saying stuff like “modern music sucks and it’s the devils music and it’s brainwashing kids and Beethoven is lovveveeee Beethoven is liiiiffffeeee” meanwhile they probably don’t know ANY modern music and have only heard about rappers like 6ix9ine or Lil Pump or Gucci Mane and don’t pay attention to the actual GOOD singers like Mxmtoon or Cavetown or Austin Weber or even Billie Eilish (she makes really good songs ngl) Everyone hating on it are only thinking about those mumble rappers who rap about sex, drugs, money, women and cars but they don’t realize all the different types of music. It’s, like, all that they see in their eyes are “mmgmmmm money kdjdjdjfkdm rapper skkdmdn Kanye west dkkdmdndn booty” on the songs I’m just saying that maybe if you hate something so much, keep it to yourself? Anyone who won’t agree with you will just insult you so it’s best to keep your mouth shut, besides, no one wants to hear “oh modern music SUCKS devils music blah blah” because that is annoying af and such an unoriginal comment, like you’re just wasting your time on a comment that thousands of other people have written and it’s getting boring reading all of them
I love songs by Pink, Sarah Bereilles, Dixie Chicks, Blonde, Nickel Creek, Big Mama Thornton, Elvis Presley, Kingston Trio, Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Allison Kraus, Good Charlotte, Etta James, Nancy Sinatra, The Weather Girls, Dolly Parton, Mary Mary, .... to name just a couple and missing a lot (the list goes on and on and I'm always discovering new to me music). There's always good new music. And there's always good old music. The are disturbing and unlikeable songs amoung any age of music. Older music features all kinds of sexist and racist themes (really listen to 1950's pop songs or try and get your hands on US political songs from when bringing along music was part of any mildly successful political campaign). Newer music has sexist and racist messages too. There's not some perfect age of music where there weren't bad messages in music as well as good.

I hate everything about being 15, especially the music, and the fact that everything is made like shit, IT'S ALL FUCKING PLASTIC NOW. I'd rather be tortured for a year, and, afterwards, get to live in the 1910s to whenever I died, then to live in this damned age another second of my life.
...well, it depends on HOW much older, if you want "joyful". A lot of the 1900's or so songs are melodramatic tear-jerkers about...well, death, really. Like, little kids gone too young due to consumption being compared to broken tragic porcelain dolls, or like "Listen to the Mockingbird" has the line "The mockingbird is singing _on her grave_ ." So...yeah. In other news, how was your day? :P Seriously, there of course IS happy music in the past, and happier _sounding_ , as in, the tune is more fun. Including even in the 1890s--WWI. But...people did also sing about what was actually happening, and...well, no antibiotics, or vaccines, or...

What. Is music from the 1890s supposed to be bad or something. That piece of music is much better than most music from this year in a compositional point of view.
YT: * recommends me a 10 year old video about the history of pop music when all I watch on here is animal videos, MMA highlights and Japanese cooking videos * Have they stopped selling my info? 😹
People comparing older music to new music while I'm here with my playlist featuring Elvis, Queen, Vivaldi, Iron Maiden, Britney Spears and Hatsune Miku
I wish i can experience what it was like to live back in the older days.. what they did for fun, how they hanged out, foods they ate, how they dressed, etc..
and also how they racially abused black people and how they treated woman and how you had to work in the factories as a child and child abuse at schools.
Notice Jazz by far dominated the 20th century. Until Rock came along you either listen to Jazz or Country. Music like Blues and Classical music that was still being made at the time kind of took a back seat to Jazz. Without Jazz and blue you don't Rock. I guess Rock is kind of its own thing. At the same it has it origins in Country, Blues and Jazz.
Yes and once rock got big people listened less and less to jazz and now rap/hip hop is getting big and people are listening less and less to rock yet people act like there isnt new jazz music and stuff coming out its very annoying. Imagine the charts was always full of jazz and u were someone that didnt like jazz.
Yo 1890s Song of the Year was another one. I still remember the announcement vividly. My granddaughter was born that day and I was out for a cold one with the homes to celebrate.
I feel like I now know more about my past life cause of this. 1st of all, I remember that I was either born on the year 1899 OR I remember music from that century. I love these songs so far. Keep on playing it makes me feel a way.

The compilation had a bias against African-American musicians, including black jump blues artists of the 1940s and 1950s; early black rock musicians like Little Richard and Chuck Berry; black soul, R&B, and disco artists; Stevie Wonder; Michael Jackson; and so many more.

Where are the BEE GEES??? Donna Summer? Disco in general?!
Donna Summer had the Billboard No.2 Hit for 1979, ('Bad Girls'), the No.7 Hit for 1979, ('Hot Stuff'), and the No.12 Hit for 1979, ('MacArthur Park').

Yayyy I’m a legend
I can’t be the only person here who likes old music AND modern music, right? Everyone in this comment section seems to be dissing modern music. Really though, modern music is great, but it doesn’t hurt to listen to classics every once in a while. Everyone has their own opinions so can y’all stop dissing others preferences?
Thank you 🙏🏼 you're statement will save a lot
I get what you're saying and there's nothing wrong with you liking modern music but we have just as much right to dislike modern music as you do liking it.
The problem many of us have with modern music is most all of it is autotuned and promotes sex, drugs and violence which I don't consider to be real music.
No hate on you for liking modern music, but we have our right to dislike what we want for it is just as much our opinion as you have yours.
Lucid Vision I’m just seeing all these comments saying stuff like “modern music sucks and it’s the devils music and it’s brainwashing kids and Beethoven is lovveveeee Beethoven is liiiiffffeeee” meanwhile they probably don’t know ANY modern music and have only heard about rappers like 6ix9ine or Lil Pump or Gucci Mane and don’t pay attention to the actual GOOD singers like Mxmtoon or Cavetown or Austin Weber or even Billie Eilish (she makes really good songs ngl)
Everyone hating on it are only thinking about those mumble rappers who rap about sex, drugs, money, women and cars but they don’t realize all the different types of music. It’s, like, all that they see in their eyes are “mmgmmmm money kdjdjdjfkdm rapper skkdmdn Kanye west dkkdmdndn booty” on the songs
I’m just saying that maybe if you hate something so much, keep it to yourself? Anyone who won’t agree with you will just insult you so it’s best to keep your mouth shut, besides, no one wants to hear “oh modern music SUCKS devils music blah blah” because that is annoying af and such an unoriginal comment, like you’re just wasting your time on a comment that thousands of other people have written and it’s getting boring reading all of them
Lol same they got queen, Beatles, ac dc and we get eminem, LMFAO mick gordon, etc I see this as a win win
1950s was the birth of rock in roll. I wish u would’ve went more depth on that. There was only 2 or 3 songs shown about it

...well, it depends on HOW much older, if you want "joyful".
Galbreath S. Quin Lol teenage angst is the cringiest garbage to read I swear

Where was Michael Jackson
@Nobby Heads Rofl
Good point
stupid video
In the 80s era, your playlist basically is all the songs you heard ,once you already listen the true 80s hits
when the music from 1893 is better than the xbox kids mic
What. Is music from the 1890s supposed to be bad or something. That piece of music is much better than most music from this year in a compositional point of view.
YT: * recommends me a 10 year old video about the history of pop music when all I watch on here is animal videos, MMA highlights and Japanese cooking videos *
Have they stopped selling my info? 😹
You are supposed to type “[“ at the start and “]” at the end, not “*”
That’s actually really cool to watch, and still knowing some of the songs from along time ago just blows my mind
1902 best pop song of all time
What is this singer's name?
@Nihar Gundawar thank you so much
13:48 ... Candle in the Wind came out in 1973 :P
elton john recreated it in 1997 (princess diana)
You just had to google it man...
Love how the video of Elvis from 1957 is better than half of the videos since then.....
@@purpleoceanflower I mean they never said it was good, just that they wanted to see what it was like
Same, all of it
How they hung* out
Lmao I just can’t imagine people being like “Aye u hear that new Cohen song?”💀💀
This is not a very accurate list.
Ashanti Nyongo no Airplane nor The Doors nor Jimi. Hendrix nor Janis Joplin.
ashanti nyongo you wanna know what i think about this video? i think this video is bull shit !!!!!
Ikr. There’s no Bohemian Rhapsody
No rick roll
Where is Motown?
Notice Jazz by far dominated the 20th century. Until Rock came along you either listen to Jazz or Country. Music like Blues and Classical music that was still being made at the time kind of took a back seat to Jazz. Without Jazz and blue you don't Rock. I guess Rock is kind of its own thing. At the same it has it origins in Country, Blues and Jazz.
You got it in a nut shell.
Yes and once rock got big people listened less and less to jazz and now rap/hip hop is getting big and people are listening less and less to rock yet people act like there isnt new jazz music and stuff coming out its very annoying. Imagine the charts was always full of jazz and u were someone that didnt like jazz.
the fact that you didn't show queen ._.
IKR
Queen sucked. Literally.
@@WombatLoveAffair You suck
So sad, really sad
I agree. Where was Queen? You cant have a music list without queen
Yo 1890s Song of the Year was another one. I still remember the announcement vividly. My granddaughter was born that day and I was out for a cold one with the homes to celebrate.
0:18 me and the boys after get 0/50 on math exam
LOL
How is this a hit list through out the decades WITHOUT ANY MICHAEL JACKSON???????????? So clearly this whole list is inaccurate
Janelly M not to mention brother can you spare a dime was the anthem of the 30s and didn't even make it.
rawrtf2 How when Elvis was on it?
Doesn’t matter. The video is old
0:52 sound like louis Armstrong
I kno Louis Armstrong did sing that song but I didn’t know he sampled it.
I think it is? It sounds too high quality for the 1890s
Armstrong are Born in 1901
So today I learned that, besides knowing a couple of songs here and there, I know every song pretty consistently after 1956
I was surprised when I heard silly love songs lol
Heorge Garrison same I got instantly happy
Heorge Garrison stfu
Me too!
I loved the music of the 1920s 40s and 50s
Swing shall rise
2019: Old town road
I feel like I now know more about my past life cause of this. 1st of all, I remember that I was either born on the year 1899 OR I remember music from that century. I love these songs so far. Keep on playing it makes me feel a way.
No Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Aretha Franklin?
1993- I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston (Whitney was in this video)
Queen? Where's Queen? WHERE'S IS FUCKING QUEEN?!!
Real question is, where the fuck is Eminem?
where is ABBA, Michael Jackson?
Frank Sinatra?
2010’s has been loaded with hits
Most of these clips were too short to actually appreciate the music and song, especially the very early music that I've never heard.
The 80’s are not the 80’s without MJ!!!!!!
They are 80s without Jackson I grew up in the 80s it was pretty 80s when you didn’t hear about Micheal
@@chuckenmcnuggets4464 he was popular in the 70s tho
Where are Queen and Michael Jackson ?
i had no idea that "take me out to the ball game" dated back to 1908.. still sung today at every 7th inning stretch.
I always thought it was written in the 1890s, but I looked it up online, and the information was consistent.
This video is over a decade old. Time goes by fast
