Definitely respect that you incorporated your daughter into an episode. That was sweet. I adore Caverna. It got me back into the hobby after a good 20 years out of it. Two of my friends and I go to Feast for Odin with all additional content as our favorite three player game. We branch out and try other games, but we will always be hungry for a feast. It is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. I respect that these two games contradict the mass publisher and scene push to intensive streamlining that can water down some gaming experiences for me. I understand that this movement brings more to the hobby and can clean up some messiness in many games, but I feel that it reduces quality of some games, as well as the experience for individuals that crave bigger, more complex games. However, I do not want to buy either of these games due to their cost and the fact that my friend owns them. Playing them at his is enough to satisfy my urge for them. It can also be hard to find groups that would like to play games this complex and time consuming. These are also tough games for new players to get into as it is tough to see the results of your actions in points while playing those first games. All of these reasons together have swayed me to purchase Fields of Arle. I cannot wait to try it. Uwe, if you see this. I love you. Feast is a masterpiece. Red bellies, blubber, and greenie babies all day.
First, you guys should do a top 10 dungeon crawl (or whatever you'd classify stuff like Arcadia Quest and Dungeon! as). Great review by the way, I haven't convinced my wife to try any strictly Euro-games like this yet, but this might be one to try out
I liked your review ! I have a Dutch version called Friesche Velden or in English Frisian Fields. The famous Dutch board game explainer Bastiaan Nox explained it, but together with this review i get the game better. What i didn't hear that you can play it also by yourself (1 person).
Excellent review! I think I'll buy this game because I love worker-placement and the game's theme. I also appreciate that you can even play it without anyone else.
What did Z think? I believe I spied his name on the score sheet. Great to see Melody and her love of worker placement here. For me this looks like another great Uwe to eat up the hours for the wife and I after our baby daughter falls asleep :) Great review!
Lol guess the little guy was not happy today. You can hear him crying in the background. Poor boy. Guess he does like this game. J/k I love the family aspects of Tom's Reviews etc...
I was not impressed with Caverna as a two player game because the exploration actions reduce the interaction in the game. These actions usually only get used by only half the players so it helps the game play seven but not two. I will be getting this as this sounds exactly like what I am looking for in a two player game. Thanks Tom!
I know this game is already 60-120 minutes (or 30-60 minutes per player). I'm curious because since this video they have the "Tea and Trade" Expansion that opens it up for 3 players, and with that comes more higher play time 90-180 minutes. Has Tom played Fields of Arle with the expansion? I keep seeing that it's a great expansion to an already great game and could be considered a requirement given the new things that were added, especially if you want to play it with 3 people. Edit: as of 3 months ago, he hasn't yet but plans on getting the 3 player Expansion for the Dice Tower Library. Link: ruclips.net/video/iCvY47SwF8Q/видео.html
I completely disagree! I own both games. They are similar but different enough to justify owning both. especially since FoA is such a well balanced 2 player, and caverna, not so much.
Too much stuff. Both time we set it up, we took it down before finishing it. No one wants to play a game where they have no idea what they are doing for the first half the of the game, especially experienced gamers. I don't want to have to pump myself up to play a game, I want the game to be make me want to play it.
Hogwash. Many great games require several entire play-throughs before you know what you are doing. Tigris & Euphrates for example and that's a classic and former #1. Caylus comes to mind. In many endevours (film, literature, food) you need to press yourself into trying things over and over again that are acclaimed to get to what appreciated about the thing. Not everything worthwhile is immediately enjoyable. (I have no opinion on this game).

This looks fantastic. Thanks for the review you two.
Just received my copy of this game. Now I just gotta wait until Feast gets reprinted, hopefully in the next few months!
I've had this for a while but not played it yet because it was just 2-player. But now there's an expansion which adds a third player. And tea too!

I love your dice tower judgment bit. "Excellent!". I'm waiting to see what judgments of bad games will be like.

Agricola v7.5 anyone?
Looks like my kinda game :)
Melody, where is your top 100?
It's coming. Tom mentioned it a few days ago in a video (don't remember which).

Either Melody is getting taller or Tom is shrinking. I'm hoping its the latter case.

superchee2e what about cave versus cave and fields?
1:20 "This is what one player has."
....ok... I won't buy this game.
It's pronounced like 'arla'
yay! no destructive hammer time. keep up the good work :)
9 and a half years is real time, right?
Not to be pedantic, but it's 9 half years (as in 4.5 years), not nine and a half years
@@jamesandresen7033 you sir are shallow and pedantic :)

Honestly, this doesn't really look that fun :/
I need to find a wife who would play this with me lol.
Only two players? Well, I guess..

So people really play these kind of games?? My wife and I got a headache.
