Fr. Pontifex - We Hold These Truths

  • "We Hold These Truths" is a video that we felt needed to be produced in order to clearly state the main issue in regards to the (HHS) Health and Human Services Mandate. The main issue is Religious Liberty. The mandate, as it stands right now, violates the Constitution and specifically the 1st Amendment. We have a right to the free exercise of our religion without violating our consciences. Every American should see this as an important issue. It is not a Catholic issue. It is an American issue. Special thank to St. Thomas More and Rev. Charles Fanelli, Pastor for allowing us to film in the church. www.stthomasmor...
    Lyrics:
    At this time in America we've come to the crossroads
    Standing with our religious freedom and what we have been told.
    We hold these truths to be self evident all men created the same
    Endowed with certain unalienable rights that can't be taken away
    They cannot be taken away by man, they were given by the creator
    God almighty in Heaven, greater than any legislature
    No system, No policy, No mandate has the power
    To trample on our conscience and rob us of what is ours
    Things that violate health, we are told we must provide
    Using faulty percentages to justify conquer and divide
    This is not about one issue that we need to just let go
    It's not simply about contraception but about government control
    A Year to comply? A Year to deny?
    A Year to turn the other way and let our conscience die?
    A Mandate that violates the corporate conscience of our faith
    And once this door is open every religion and creed is at stake
    Every American should see this as a threat to our country's foundation
    Religion doesn't make us second class, settling for an accommodation
    Our conscience is sacred; our freedom of religion is a treasure
    Handed to us by Soldiers who fought and sacrificed beyond measure
    The 1st amendment protects the free exercise of Religion
    To exercise our freedom without living a contradiction
    As faithful Americans we HOLD THESE TRUTHS
    Life, Liberty and Happiness' pursuit
    This isn't to be partisan or to endorse a candidate
    This is about a plea to the administration to rescind this mandate
    And as you deliberate for freedoms sake just remember
    We get to use our rights and cast our two cents in November

    Keep preaching Father. We must stand resolute. Life matters. I am adopted. My spouse and brothers and sister-in-law. All adopted and all of us mattered. God bles our birth-mothers who knew this simple truth. Life mattered even in the womb; it is special and holy. Thank you to them and to you father. Keep up the good work.

    I am not Catholic I am non-denominational, but I love God and believe in Jesus Christ. I have viewed Fr. Pontifex and his video's and I find them profoundly challenging and have a biblical foundation that is undeniable no matter what your denomination is. We may not agree on all things, but at the end of the day what is important is that we agree on this one fact God is God and he uses us people to make a difference in other people's lives. Love the video's! Blessings!

    Speak the truth! you just keep saying this. I am adopted as are many in my family. We mattered from the moment of our conception. The HHS will attempt to force us to violate this most basic belief. I will not comply with laws that violate my deepest held religous principles; no matter the cost to myself. If not resolved, I stand ready to peacefully resist an over reaching government. God bless us all, even if you do not agree.

    Only the Church stood squarely across the path of Hitler’s campaign for suppressing truth. I never had any special interest in the Church before, but now I feel a great affection and admiration because the Church alone has had the courage and persistence to stand for intellectual truth and moral freedom. I am forced thus to confess that what I once despised I now praise unreservedly...Albert Einstein

If any mischief follows, then you shall give life for life" Human life begins at conception.If God demanded the death penalty on accidental deaths when a woman was pregnant who will defend the wicked murder of babies for profit? On a side note, though I feel sorry for the church, I think it has brought a lot of this on itself. It has compromised too much in the past with the likes of the Kennedy family. @menarddr Since you've decided to bring an offline online.
    His claim of NFP effectiveness came without a scientific study to back it up. I asked for a study to substantiate his claim. He has not yet provided one.
    Me "getting my feathers ruffled" was me telling him those topics were not relevant to our discussion about the effectiveness of NFP, and indicating that he seemed to have a deep hatred of the Church and that seemed to be biasing his opinion of NFP.

  • @cicciobello1954

    Religion aside...when you peel back the many layers of obfuscation, the core issue is the continued erosion of the American Constitution. Originating from the men and women sworn to uphold this doctrine makes the issue all the more frightening.

  • @mckeehn
    @mckeehn 12 лет назад

    @menarddr I don't care what some Catholics may do. It is their personal decision, and I'm not interested in judging their actions.
    Conception can occur with any method of contraception even BCPs. As a practical matter NFP has statistical use as good as BCPs when the method is followed.
    Again no one is forcing NFP on you if you don't want to use it. You can purchase and use whatever contraception you think is appropriate.

  • @2014jackal
    @2014jackal 12 лет назад

    I really like this video. It cuts to the core of the issue in an interesting way. And I'd like to point out to the leftists here that refusing to pay for contraception is not the same thing as trying to ban it. However, passing a mandate that requires someone to do something that goes completely against their religion like this is wrong and should be considered unconstitutional. I guess Christians are an easy target since they don't burn down embassies and the like.

  • @Kingokings123
    @Kingokings123 12 лет назад

    @bigmoneyownsUSA no, it forces someone to provide a service or product that is morally opposed to their beliefs. in the case where the employee and insurer agree to add the objectionable coverage, that coverage is STILL PROVIDED as a part of the objecting employer’s plan, financed in the SAME way as the rest of the coverage offered by the objecting employer. providing abortifacients is morally unacceptable to the church.

  • @mckeehn
    @mckeehn 12 лет назад

    @menarddr Telling someone they may not do something which is within their religious doctrine because it is illegal is completely different then telling someone they *must* do something against their religious doctrine. @cdawndra Yes it is also NEARLY impossible for all sorts of unlikely events to occur including conception without intercourse. But yes it has happened. From Science Daily "Researchers have found that a method of natural family planning that uses two indicators to identify the fertile phase in a woman's menstrual cycle is as effective as the contraceptive pill for avoiding unplanned pregnancies if used correctly" I'm sure you can find the study with that. It agrees with other studies.

    He may be quoting from the Bible, which includes all the books for 1567 years before the Reformation, the Catholic Catechism,which contains everything we hold as Truths of the Church, and believe in faith, and that are not made up on the moment. @cdawndra The churches stance on the use of barriers is irrelevant to the study. Well OK not totally irrelevant. Those using barriers during the fertile phase instead of abstaining had a slightly higher chance (0.6% vs 0.4%) of becoming pregnant. So what you could conclude if you insist on relating it back the the Church sanctioned NFP method is that the Church method of abstinence during fertility is slightly more effective than using barriers during fertility.

    We don't NEED to go through Mary to get to God. We do so because Mary was selected and favored by God himself and is the holiest of saints. She, therefore, has a much greater pull when it comes to God than a typical person. I'm not at all saying God doesn't listen to our prayers, but when there are so many saints in heaven who can be praying for you too, why not get the extra help? look up "why do catholics pray to mary" on google and click the second link at catholicdoors. its got scripture.

    @holymotclare "Laws are made for the government of actions, and while they cannot interfere with mere religious beliefs and opinions, they may with practices. . . . Can a man excuse his practices to the contrary because of his religious belief? To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself. Government could exist only in name under such circumstances." - Reynolds V US

  • @mckeehn

    @cdawndra Ah there you go again. Some participants used a barrier during the "Fertile Phase" rather than abstain. I fail to see how the fact that some participants in the study elected to use barriers during fertile periods rather than abstain has any relevance to the discussion on the scientific effectiveness of NFP. This sounds like an emotional argument about how you want NFP to not work, rather than a scientific reason why it doesn't.

  • @aliciadear

    Also, who is the other faithful chosen one you are referring to? I can't think of any human more favored by God than the woman, who was without sin, that he chose to bear his son. He entrusted many people with important tasks, but none more important than Mary's. Joseph was also very important, as was John the Baptist, but no one more than Mary. After them, the next most "chosen" was Peter, to whom he entrusted the Church, which is the Catholic church as St. Peter was the first pope.

    Pius XII also took a public stance concerning the Jews of Italy: "The Pope spoke out strongly in their defense with the first mass arrests of Jews in 1943, and L’Osservatore Romano carried an article protesting the internment of Jews and the confiscation of their property. The Fascist press came to call the Vatican paper ‘a mouthpiece of the Jews.’

    @cdawndra NFP is a scientific method with a 99% success rate. It is not rhythm. It is not what our ancestors used. It is a scientific method of observing fertility signs and from those signs making decisions about whether or not to have intimate relations with your spouse.

    @menarddr what does it matter what EWTN is doing, they are standing up for their rights... since when is that illegal or a political move?

    @menarddr You know alot more about that program than I do as I never watch it. Sorry. Don't know Raymond Arroyo either. You seem to be a little obsessed with him however. Have you ever talked to someone about this? Couldn't hurt!

    @holymotclare How so? Your objection to the contraception mandate (as I understand it) is that paying for contraception is against your religious beliefs and therefore interferes with your constitutional rights to practice your religion. I do not see how paying for a war could possibly not be interfering with the same rights if I were to follow that same reasoning. I genuinely would like someone to answer this and not write it off as "a red herring".

    Our unalienable rights “were given by the creator.” These rights could also be proven scientifically. See the book titled: Scientific Proof of Our Unalienable Rights.

    @holymotclare Do paying for the wars interfere with the practice of your religion?

    @Kingokings123 What is there to seriously debate? There is many great examples of the conviction in which people believe in the supernatural . Everything from Stonehenge the pyramids, our beautiful cathedrals, our music, art and even a willingness to die. A tradition of having an all powerful king to rule over us has existed since before we gained the power of written communication. I don't need convincing just how strongly you know in your heart that god exists.

    @fforrett We have no argument when it comes to the historic means in which religion has silenced those who dared to question ;) Wouldn't the world be a better place if we were all Protestant? or better yet all Baptist or even better yet all Southern Baptist ?

    @menarddr Really why the news covers one topic and not another? Your question should be directed at Journalists not Catholics. I can't speak intelligently about the business decisions in someone else's profession.

    Everyone should read, before Election Day, the newly released book titled: “Scientific Proof of Our Unalienable Rights”

    @menarddr It would be unconstitutional for the government to force you to serve in the military, which is why I oppose conscription, but I digress. Your tax dollars go to the military in general. This mandate would specifically force Catholic organizations to do something they strongly oppose, and as I pointed out, refusing to pay for something is not the same as trying to ban it. No one has the right to get these things for free, so it's not a women's rights issue.

    @JGtime The 98% number is a misleading number that has been created out of thin air to exaggerate the number of dissenting Catholics. Even if the number is accurate, it is un-American to force those who find it morally unacceptable to pay for something that is not essential to staying alive. The mosque issue is completely different as people of a certain faith are not being forced to fund what is morally unacceptable. It was merely bad manners to build next to a site of 2,000 American deaths.
