We still have that little 50. It starts up every time too. We should've bought the 90 for his first quad instead, I had to put a lot of work into the 50 to make it fast enough for him to enjoy it lol. We kept the 50 for when our son has friends come over to ride. He's got a little Polaris 110 Outlaw now.
Wow! You got it zipping along nicely. I'm impressed you installed the lights on it. I've been looking at a TRX90X for my boys, but I really want lights on it. Were they hard to install?
They were pretty easy. I did it the quick way and ran the hot to the battery. I just have to make sure the lights are off when he's done or it'll kill the battery.
What variator rollers did you install weight wise? What gear ratio did you go to ? I think stock is 16 front 32 rear ? What cdi box? Sorry for all questions lol
I have 2 of these. Took the speed collar off but it’s still pretty slow. What other restricters are on it? I keep hearing about the air intake is there some sort way for it to grab more air?
We added a Uni air filter but that didn't make it much faster. The two things that made the biggest difference was the aftermarket CDI (Rev) box and the rear sprocket. We sold that atv a while back and unfortunately I can't remember which cdi and sprocket we ended up buying. Another cheap easy upgrade would be an aftermarket carburetor but then you lose the automatic choke that comes with the new Kawasaki atv's.
I just bought my son a 2017 KFX 50. I took the CVT collar off and got it going a little faster, then I purchased a cdi box with adjustment for the timing. The little thing really moves now. I am just a little concerned about overloading the engine. How is the cdi box working for you and what is the best setting for the timing adjustment?
I bought mine on Ebay too. It didn't work either but I moved some of the pins in the plug around after I did some research online and then it worked. But I can't remember how I did it unfortunately. Sorry.
I bought it on Amazon. It appears to be out of stock. Here's the link. Brand New Kawasaki KFX 50 DC Unrestricted Race CDI Adjustable www.amazon.com/dp/B00PAAZ84S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_czr9xb0506WCS. I had to change around the wires in the connector as well. Move the wires in the connector to match the connector from a KFX 90 and it will work.
Can you tell me which sprockets and chain you used. Also did you out an exhaust on it if so which one. On the rollers which ones did you use I already pulled the collar out. what jets did you use?
Ricky Bockhorn I ordered the front and rear sprockets from Rebel Gears, I'd have to get back to you on the sizes can't remember. I left the stock exhaust. I bought a set of 7 gram performance rollers off of Amazon.
Hello i have a 2017 KFX50 50 and can't find a rev limiter box that works i have bought two and both did not work. i am also looking for the sprockets can you please help me
Man I'm surprised the stock top speed is so low. Not much faster than a power wheel. Looks like you got it moving pretty good though! Thanks for the advice, I'll go 90cc.
Justin Buell, I'm not sure how big/small your child is but a 90 is not a good first machine. I have 2 different size 4wheelers for the kids to ride, a 2007 Polaris Outlaw 90, and a 2003 Kawi KFX50 (older 2-stroke version of the machine in this video). I can say without hesitation that the 90 is NOT a starter machine. It's physically too big, brake handles too big and far from the bars, and once opened up it is too damn fast for a 6 year old. The only good part is that it's rather wide, so flipping it is very difficult. My sons KFX is plenty quick for a kid starting out.
Like most people I wouldn't buy an ATV without having my son sit on it to see how everything feels looks fits. My son actually had a Chinese 110cc before he we got him the KFX 50 and it was actually smaller in size than the 50. Most ATVs can be governed down to keep your child riding at a safe speed as well.
Yeah, I looked at one of those cheap Chinese machines when I was looking to buy a starter rig. I went with the KFX because it is a much better built ATV. Not long after that a friend of mine had the throttle stick on a 2 year old Chinese ATV. Luckily he was close enough to grab the handlebars and keep it from taking off with his daughter on it! In the end I will always stick with name brand machines. And if you buy name brand machines then a 90 is just too much ATV for a 5-6 year old that is just starting out.
+nugent5438 Thanks for the feedback guys. I definitely am considering the kfx as well. Saw a few videos of the 90's and decided it may be too much bike for my kid's age. Won't get anything without seeing it first but it will definitely be either Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki. I am with you on the Chinese models, the build quality just isn't there.
is the 90 also a bigger bike or only the engine is bigger? if the bikes are the same size then it'd he easier to slow down the 90 i think. I'm looking to get one for my daughter. She's learning now on a 125 chinese with me aboard. Bought the chinese to see if she likes atving or not before investing on a proper machine.
Get him a Chinese tao tao . Boulder model . They cost around $500 and you can turn the throttle up and down so after he learns to ride you can gradually make it faster . My nephew's have them and they are awesome
I put a down payment on the 90cc for my 3 year old....from these comments I'm wondering if I should change it to the 50? hes a smart little guy but I dont want him to have a hard time with the controls. I can certainly slow it down at the throttle....hmmm
I'd stick with the 90cc if I were you. I had to add a lot of parts to our 50cc to make it "fast enough" for my son to enjoy riding it lol. Like you said, you can always adjust the speed limiter on the 90cc to his comfort level.
Hi there, I just bought my son one of these quads. It's great you can do some simple mods to get some more power out of it. Was the company selling the cdi ( xtreme-partsstore )? If so they are selling them on Ebay. Thanks for the great vid.
We actually bought one of those before the Kawasaki. It was a Tao Tao 110cc blue spider web themed bike. We still have it. The motor runs great still but I've had to weld the frame several times. The first day we had it I knew it was cheaply made. It clattered and vibrated like crazy. You get what you pay for.
I remember my first 50cc quad when I was 6-ish.. now going to be 18 soon and hoping to buy Renegade XXC 1000 triple black one day
Awesome ATV we bought the 2021 KFX 90 and will be posting a video this week on it, our son loves it!

@@AssaultOffroad that’s awesome! Do you find the Polaris better quality than the Kawasaki?
Very similar quality in my opinion. No problems with either one so far. 🤞
@@AssaultOffroad Awesome!
Hi im wondering what sprockets you went with and what weight rollers you changed to
Your are a 👌awesome Dad 😃.
Wow that lil thing really gets it now. Nice video
Thanks

oh gee, must be easier than I was making it out to be. do they light up well at night?
+nevertoooldtohavefun Yeah they're very bright
What variator rollers did you install weight wise?
What gear ratio did you go to ? I think stock is 16 front 32 rear ?
What cdi box?
Sorry for all questions lol
Louder than I was expecting. Is that an aftermarket exhaust? If so, is the original quieter?
Hugh Jafro That's the original exhaust.
You can take the tip out of the end - wakes it up a little.
Do you have a parts number for that cdi??
What cdi box you use and gears?size sprockets?

@@AssaultOffroad you remember where you bought the CDI
I bought it on Amazon but it's unavailable now
I just bought one for my daughter. She gets it on her birthday soon! Did you remove the collar on the cvt? It looks pretty fast!
Where did you find a performance CDI box? And how did you confirm that it actually did anything? Thanks in advance!
I bought it on Amazon. It's no longer for sale. My son rode next to my four-wheeler before and after I installed it to check the top speed.
@@AssaultOffroad thanks for the reply! I'm having a hard time finding anything!

Do you know what age range this will be good for?
Kawasaki says 6 and up but my son got bored with it when he was 7 or 8, even with the mods I made to it.
@@AssaultOffroad damn! My son is 7 going on 8. Just too slow? Thanks for the reply!
@@manny2door Yeah exactly. He would get irritated when everyone else that was riding was faster than him lol.
@@AssaultOffroad aww damn lol well thanks you saved me some money I was just about to buy one this weekend 😂

I have found the solution for the cdi and coil made a big difference and I also have parts numbers and how to do it
Where did you find the aftermarket cdi box?
I would like any info you have on the cdi box
Where are the restrictors. I didn’t see them in mine
one in the exhaust pipe, up by the head. one in the intake header, between the carb and head.
50cc atv is that ?
Kawasaki KFX 50
What brand of LED lights are those and how did you mount them? Thanks.
Zak Tucker They are MegaLight LED Headlights. I bought them on Amazon but it looks like they are no longer available.
Joshburden Thanks. Great video. We went with the 90cc based on video.
What is the top speed stock
Stock top speed is 8-10mph. You can pull a few restrictors that come pre-installed to get about 15mph out of it.
+Joshburden thx
+Zisco Vlogs no problem!

ProbeGT2 They are the same size bike. I should've gone with the 90.
I want to buy my 7 year old boy a quad like this!
I prefer a Honda for younger kids
did you take out the internal clutch engadger?
Joe Diggy . I removed the speed limiting collar ring from the front clutch assembly and swapped out the rollers for lighter ones.
before or after it was going 8 just wondering
Joe Diggy . The first thing I did was remove just the collar. That got it going about 8mph.
thats weird my stock 2013 went 17-18 stock
Joe Diggy. Is it a 50cc or a 90cc? I wonder if they added more restrictors later on.
Looking to get my son something but he is only 5 and they say that he has to be 6. How can you get around that?
Eric Soliz
My ATV dealer didn't ask lol. We only ride on private property.

how tall is he?
This was filmed a few years ago, I'm not sure how tall he was back then.
Lol I have a polaris sportsman 110 which goes at least 40 mph
EDIT: thanks assault offroad for giving my comment a ❤
