I'd love to see a Q & A video, and hear about your potential future long term hiking plans (any additional through hikes in your future and are you still dating the person you met on the PCT?). Thanks for the informative video!
THIS is a freakin GREAT idea!! I've never done a Q&A video before. I guess I figured no one would have any questions for me. I'll post a few polls this week to see what questions people might have that they'd want to have answered and I'll put together the video. Thank you so much for the wonderful idea!!
Awesome! I love my Thurupack Summit Bum fanny pack. This piece of gear was a game changer for me out on trail in 2019. Now, like my trekking poles, I can't hike without it.
Wow! This is a great video. Quick and to the point. Seems logical and smart with pretty much all of the items you mentioned which is a lot. 12 pounds can be heavy, but for that amount of items is impressive. I know that pack is pretty light itself which helps. There are some great pointers and ideas there. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one. My day pack might be considered heavy by some, but I always insist on always carrying all of the 10 essentials, along with plenty of snacks for the day. With my gear videos, I like them to get to the point and be as informative as possible. I've sat through my fair share of videos where they just go on and on and on. The rambling makes me lose interest and retention. I make videos I want to see. :)
I’m so glad to see that you actually brought a real knife. A great video. I’ll have to rewatch this I don’t remember any fire kit. That’s real important to stave off hypothermia. God bless you. John
Very well presented. Thank you for sharing your list. I always have a silnylon tarp & chordage with me. Never seem to see it mentioned in people’s list.
That's a great point about the tarp. I have an emergency tarp I'll carry with me on winter, snowy hikes that I can use as an emergency shelter if I need it. In the warmer months, I carry the space blanket/emergency ivy that I can also use as an emergency shelter should I need it.
Glad you found this video helpful. The Osprey Tempest 20 is a 20 liter pack. Here's the link to the pack on REI so you can get more details: alnk.to/3J2s78y Also, this is a video I made back in 2021 so it's a little old. I made a newer day hiking gear video last year in 2023, which you can check out here: ruclips.net/video/XcBO6urYPUs/видео.html I'll probably make a new day hiking gear video again this year since I have a few new pieces of gear I've been using out on my day hikes so stay tuned!
awesome video! i just came here after i watched your older version of this video. and it has evolved so much! also the way you laid out everything and edited it was great and so helpful! i am gonna make a list for myself to check if i have everything. i love your fannypack!
Thank you! I go back and watch my older videos, to see how far I've come with my channel, how I edit my videos and how I present my content. Also, my gear tends to change from season to season so I figured doing an update to this video would be a good idea. Glad you found this one helpful.
Great to see a hiking RUclipsr from the northwest. I'd like to see videos on rain gear for the northwest and dressing up in layers for a hike in the Pacific Northwest. I'm from Tacoma 👍
Do a little search on my RUclips Channel and you'll find a video featuring all of my favorite winter hiking gear, Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/Q5DUmrdLHpo/видео.html
I think you have everything covered! Besides not owning a few of these things (saving up for that inReach!), the only other item I have in my kit is a rain jacket. You never know with these mountain weather changes! Great video :)
I hiked the PCT in both 2018 and 2019 without an inReach and had a PLB (a one-way panic button to SAR) instead because I didn't have the inReach in my budget yet. I had to buy all the rest of the gear and food I needed for that trip! It took me awhile to save up for the inReach after my PCT hikes and then I didn't realize it needed an active monthly subscription for it to work until I was ready to buy.
I saw that you had a package of waterproof matches. Since you’re in the Pacific Northwest I would recommend a mini big lighter and a small bag of Vaseline soaked cotton balls.

Thank you! I thought the 12.5 lbs for a day hike might be considered on the heavier side for base weight, but I'm also comparing this to my base weight for overnight backpacking trips, which is much higher.
@@Love2Wander Absolutely! I don't mind carrying a little extra weight in my pack if it means I'll be comfortable AND safe. Always prepare for the worse!!
Hey, I apologize if you've already talked about this, but quite frankly, I just found your videos about a month ago. My question is, what is portable charger of choice?
For my longer and overnight backpacking trips, I always carry my RavPower Battery Pack Charger amzn.to/3kkAsv4 to charge all of my electronics on trail. I don't bring this with me on my day hikes, which is why this wasn't featured in this video. Hope this helps!
@@TheHungryHiker It does help. Thank you 😊 I'm diabetic and an avid WA backpacker, it seems like the technology to manage my diabetes has all become rechargeable 🙄. Thanks so much. 👍

This “crap” can save your safe if you find yourself in a bad scenario out in the backcountry. I always like to be prepared for worse case scenario and be self-reliant. Everyone hikes their own hike though…
I literally burst out laughing at the rock hugging at the 48 second mark. 10/10 can relate. Lmao!
I hug THAT rock every single year. 😊

I’m hiking in Michigan this week and literally forgot half my pack lol. First aid, flashlight, mace, rain jacket...so it’s going to be interesting 🤨
Oh no! Hopefully you're able to stop somewhere along the way and replace some of the items you forgot. Be safe out there!

Do you still take your puffy on summer hikes in the PNW?!
Yes. It's part of my clothing layering system. I tend to get cold easy at camp.
Is that your dog?! 😍
Nope, not my dog. Tucker is my roommate. 😀
Nice loadout and only 12.5 lbs. Stay safe on your adventures

It could be 120 here in California desert and I still have a rain jacket in my pack funny 😄😆
