Oh what great fun, I was captivated watching Joie as it reminds me of a technique from the 90's for faux batik on paper......... the greatest success is either on thin papers or heavier that has been wet, making it easier to crumple and then iron dried before placing the wax...... let the wild rumpus experimentation begin!!!!!! 🦋🦋🦋🦋💗🦋
The melted soy beads really look cool on the papers. The transparent ones are my favorite. Thanks so much for sharing this fun Forgotten Friends Friday.
Evening Gayle! This is interesting, will put it on my to do list. Love how your papers turned out. Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Scrappy Saturday! 👍🌻🌻🌻🐰
Very interesting effect for pages of interest! I really like the vellum and old paper - so cool 😎 My daughter bought fabric dipped in bees wax at a craft fair. It is used for keeping food fresh in your refrigerator. She wrapped half an avocado and 2 days later it was still green and as fresh as the day she cut it!
This was fun to watch, rather relaxing to watch someone else iron, lol. Kidding aside, I love how the papers came out. The ledger was so see through and looked awesome. Really enjoyed seeing the results and can hardly wait to try it. Thank you Gayle!
The map is the coolest, you have the south of Ireland where I am from, and northern Ireland where I am now. This is such a great idea, can't wait to try it out. Thanks Gayle xx
This was quite an interesting video and I would never thought to use wax beads to put onto different types of paper. You really are amazing with your creativity Gayle. God bless and hope you and your husband stay safe and have a blessed night too. Hugs and blessings to you both always! Sue M.❤️🙏🏻🌼🌸😊😘👼👍❌⭕️❌⭕️
Hey hey Gayle. When I saw “waxing” I thought it was going to be using a commercial adhesive waxer like we used for graphic arts back in the 1970 -2000. Before the computer & digital graphics took over we “pasted” pieces of text galleys & art to a page board to be photographed. In California my boys waxed up their skis & surf boards kinda like this, lol.
I watched Joi yesterday and was inspired too! I would caution on leaving a journal with wax cover in the car! LOL ( we are in a 100+ degree season). I'm so excited to try this!!! I enjoyed watching your 'take' on the process! ❤
Once again, you kept me company on a less than stellar morning with an idea I would never have considered. Thanks for the distraction, and the play with wax. Love it.
Good morning Gayle!! This was so fun to see how each piece looks with the wax. I remember watching Yvonne awhile back doing bees wax on ephemera. And I was lucky enough to get the journal she put them in. Love the feel of the bees wax!! Thanks for sharing this. Have an awesome Friday...💜
Hi Gayle I am late watching tonight but I loved watching you play! Using up your beads was a good idea but I think they maybe give you too thick of a coat, maybe you can lay another sheet of coffee dyed or printed copy paper on top (right sides together) and reheat it so both pieces share the wax? I have been doing this since my Mom showed me back in the 70s and we always used an old box grater to make the wax fine. It uses less wax and is easier to apply when grated. If you wanted a scented wax you can always add in a drop or so of essential oil. It also works with candles, parafin, and crayons, yep crayons work great on thin paper and give a stained glass look. I like adding in pressed flowers when I am apply the wax, it gives you that home made paper look. Whatever you do I am still watching because I enjoy your positive outlook and friendly nature in general. My son has asked why I watch even if I know how to do the project already. I tell him the same thing plus you just never know maybe you only think you knew how to do something and learn a new way. It is all about sharing, creating, learning, and being in a happy place! Love ya girly! 🌟💖💖💖🌟
It was definitely weird and wonderful collection. While the nettles are prickly the blooms are lovely. I’ll be subscribing to your other channel. Take care
Oh my goodness, those beads were made here in Iowa. One of my best friend’s sister worked there and was able to buy ‘seconds’. You have no idea how many of those beads I have in many colors! Thanks for the ideas. Kristie
Hi and (((❤))) to you too, Gayle! I love this effect. I think the first time I saw this done the person used a sheet of deli paper or even printer paper to keep the beads from rolling and to protect her iron a bit. Also patterned tissue paper is amazing!
A great morning to you my friend! I really enjoyed your discussion in your last video about where you used to live. Yes moving can be tough. As an ex-military brat and dependent wife, I've moved many times in my life. Even after military life, which I've read, often happens with military kids who grow up in that life. The hardest part to that is losing friends when you leave. Always the most difficult part for me. Anyway, this looks like fun. I wish there was smell-evision AND feel-evision! 😊 I have some bee's wax I'll have to try this out. Have a wonderful day, Gayle! Take care! Sue ♥
i found some of this type of paper when clearing out my family members belorngings and it turned out to be very sticky paper after sitting in the bookcase for awhile. It also made papers that were near it kind of sticky and we were not even having the high temperatures we have been currently having. It looks cool what you are doing - hope yours turns out better than the ones I found that my relative bound in a journal he made.
It’s fun to wax papers. Have you ever tried Daddy Van’s unscented beeswax furniture polish? I learned about this product from Shannon years ago. Gives much the same effect. Comes in a tin and I brush it on. Just not as thick as waxing, but can still see through. Yes, I had to stop the video and go wax some tags and a photo. It’s funny how many things I’ve done in the past and forget about until a video like this reminds me.
Such fun! It may be different in person, but on camera I prefer the pages that have pops of color - such as the pink lines in the ledger pages. 😁. What if you used coffee scented wax in a coffee journal? Or a floral scent for nature? It might get obnoxious over time. 🤣🤣🥰
This has been around for a while. What people have found is that the wax bleeds through to other papers once in the journal. The best thing to do is to use newspaper and iron off the residual wax. You still get the wax effect without the other papers being altered. Thank you for experimenting on the various papers. I think I will try ledger paper and Rachel’s papers. I will sand but not crinkle the paper first. Then crinkle the waxed paper and spray inks in the cracks. Then iron off the excess wax. I am hoping for a batik effect
Hi Gayle!😊😊love the video. I use encaustic wax with damar resin by R&F, a 1 pound bag is about $25 on Amazon. A pancake griddle and a natural bristle brush works great to get the wax evenly distributed over the paper. It's also fun to do art work with mdf board, canvas panel, or any hard flat surface and embed various textiles or dried flowers or feathers or... I wonder it a box cover would be good for this? Maybe Mixed Media Monday?
Thanks for sharing your paper/wax experiments! When you do use the wax brick, perhaps a cheese grater or vegetable peeler would shave off suitable pieces. Admittedly, I've never worked with wax, so I've no idea if this would work.
Hi Gayle, love the results. The sound of the parchment is so cool!!! The map turned very vintage! Do you think if you grated the big block of wax on a cheese grater, it may be faster? I wonder if would stick to the greater. Just a thought.
Good morning, Gayle! I found this technique very interesting, however, before trying it I have a few questions: 1. How do the most commonly used glues perform on waxed papers? (ie, will glitter glue adhere to waxed paper? what about glue stick glue?). 2. My guess you could not use any of the waxed pages for journaling??? When I first began to watch this video, the first thing I thought of was fabric! (As a seamstress, my mind seems to go in that direction!). I would think waxing the fabric flips would render a very interesting tactile dimension to your journals! I will give this a try and report back to you! Thanks for bringing this technique to us today! Have a great weekend!💗
I liked this a lot. Could you please keep us posted about how it wears. Does the wax crack when you fold it? Does it ever remedy in very hot weather. Please keep us posted. 😀
Awesome! I love all the different varieties you showed us. This sorta reminds me of a technique my cousin did on her journal covers. She put materials and flowers with some kind of wax. I bought 5 of them for my girls and I. I think she has a RUclips channel called TwoSilverOranges? Thanks for sharing Gayle. Lovely as always.
Neat! Reminds me of when I used to do Batik in the 70's. Good to see you having fun! If using this on a cover, does it need to be protected? I wonder about the wear & tear. Thanks for showing us Gayle! 😍
Ooh la la. That looks like luscious good fun, gotta get me some of that. Ok I just ordered a brick on subscribe and save for about $13. Idea....dedicate a rasp type zester/grater for shredding the brick....that's what I'm going to try [I have hand issues]. Have a great weekend everyone. THANKS GAYLE!!
I’ve seen people just take the brick of wax directly to the bottom of their hot iron and just rub it right on the iron and then put the iron on the paper. I told Shannon Green that and she said she had tried it but she was clumsy and when she flipped the iron over to put it on the paper she splattered hot wax all over including on her self so that’s something you’d have to be real careful with.
I think your iron hit its stride! This kind of reminds me of the faux leather technique with melted wax beads instead of hair conditioner. I think I'd do any 'coloring' before waxing as the wax will likely act as a resist. You made some great waxy papers!
Morning Gayle. Interesting process. I have watched this some time ago and the person doing it said that when they used the paper the wax leaked onto the next page. I cannot remember who it was. Thanks for sharing the process. I know you film way ahead so I will wish you a very Happy Birthday for next week. Take care and enjoy. Hugs.
I bet a cheese grater would be a great way to shave down chunks of wax. Used wax melts that have lost their smell would work too. I wonder what would happen if you put the wax under the paper and then added heat. Would it pull the wax up through the bottom? I see experimentation in my future. What if you layered wax and papers, then applied heat. I bet it would make goid splotches and look mire organic.
It was fun to see how each paper turned out. I wonder if you could have laid a paper face down on the first envelope underneath, and ironed it to absorb some of the wax buildup? I could smell the wax as you melted it. lol Have a blessed day!
Gayle wax is wonderfull, but use napkins and tissue paper to envelopes, book paper. I cover and envelope with a napking in pieces and it was like a purse.!!
I was thinking you might get a more even effact with shaved wax. Like shaving on a cheese grater. I don't think the flatter shaved wax would escape off the edges like the beads tend to do.

Super fun forgotten friends Friday. I’m anxious to see how you use your pretty new papers. Waxed melted on paper is new to me. Hugs 🌸💕🌸
Hi Gayle 💕Love this idea! Great results! 😍So glad you’re enjoying DashofDave’s digitals! They are fab aren’t they!
You just do the coolest things. Thank you, Gayle. ☺
I used coloured bits I bought for wax sealing and went down a very fun rabbit hole! Thank Gayle for always stimulating creativity!🦌💌❤️📚👍✌️🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌👋

That was fun & you didn't make a big mess!!!. So fun. Can't wait to see you use them.
The map is the coolest, you have the south of Ireland where I am from, and northern Ireland where I am now. This is such a great idea, can't wait to try it out. Thanks Gayle xx
This looks like a lot of fun. Have a great day.
Such a cool idea , look forward to seeing what you do with papers later on
Hi Gayle, I like the pieces that were not scrunched better, the velum looked great! Thanks ! Have an awesome day. Hugs
Ohh thanks Gayle, you got my mind o’spinning too! Hugs💜💜💜vernie
Hugs back, sweet Vernie! 🤗😘❤️
Very cool Gayle!! Love the transparent ones!! TFS!! Hugs, Liz:)
Wish there was such a thing as feel-o-vision & smell-o-vision...so fun!! ❤🤗☕
What a great video Gayle... love the affect, can't wait to see what you make. Tfs and crafty hugs.
💛 TY Gayle!!
This looks fun with the soy beads. I have done doilies with grated beeswax but will have to try others now. I loved the map.
Fun experiment Gayle. Love it.💕Amy
Very cool technique Gayle, looks like you had fun!
Good Morning Gayle ❤️ I love this! My favorite ones are the vintage papers. I love how transparent they became.
Morning sis! Happy Friday! This project looks so fun! Off to watch the video! Have a blessed day and a beautiful weekend! Hugs! Love you! ❤️
Love you too, sis! ❤️

I love Forgotten Friends Fridays! Can’t wait to see what you do with what you created today.
Good morning sweet Gayle. Have a fabulous weekend hugs xoxo
Morning, Lorie, you too! ❤️
So excited and happy to see you use some antique ledger pages! I just got 2000 antique French documents from France in. I will send you some! ❤ Kate
Yippee!!! You’re the love best, Kate! Big hugs! 🤗❤️
This is fun. I’m going to play with it. You will love the movie Where the Crawdads Sing as much as the book. It is really well done.
Good morning, Gayle! I never would have thought of doing the wax! Cool process!

I did this a few days ago on your letter digital kit. Turned out really neat!!! Hugs!!
I think it's fun too! I think Sharon Hoerth has a nice easy method for using the brick, without having to cut it. TFS!👍🌞❤️
It was definitely weird and wonderful collection. While the nettles are prickly the blooms are lovely. I’ll be subscribing to your other channel. Take care
Very cool tfs and happy crafting x

Hi Gayle😊
Who knew that playing with an Iron could be so fun!😂 Love how they turned out💕
I have all the stuff to do this but no time - thanks for showing this before I attempt to work on this ..
Cool. Wonder if it would grate on a micro plain type grater ? I may need to try that 💕
I use a vegetable peeler for my blocks of wax. Hugs Juanette
Thank you so much I learn so much from you! Greatly Appreciated!!!
I have waxed a brittle end paper from an old book to make it a little tougher. I rubbed it with a beeswax candle and then melted it with my heat tool.
What a nice effect!
Good morning! Fun! Thanks for sharing! Blessings!💕
Oh Gayle ... I seriously dislike ironing ... clothes lol. But this type of ironing seems like heaps of fun.
Hi and (((❤))) to you too, Gayle! I love this effect. I think the first time I saw this done the person used a sheet of deli paper or even printer paper to keep the beads from rolling and to protect her iron a bit. Also patterned tissue paper is amazing!

❤️ Gayle can you actually write on the paper once waxed.

luv them all! 🦌💌❤️📚📭
I can see how this could be quite an addiction. You know I'm going to have to try this myself. Hugs......
Good Morning Gayle! Happy ForgottenFriend Friday, yay!
Morning Amy! ❤️
Good morning sweet Gayle, I’ve been wanting to try this since I saw Joie’s video. Have a great weekend ~Shary~
Hi and hugs to you too!! This was definitely something new to me! Thanks for Sharing. Too bad we can't smell and touch! Hugs

Hey Gayle you do the neatest things
I've read Crawdads twice, what a marvelous read
Such fun! It may be different in person, but on camera I prefer the pages that have pops of color - such as the pink lines in the ledger pages. 😁. What if you used coffee scented wax in a coffee journal? Or a floral scent for nature? It might get obnoxious over time. 🤣🤣🥰
Oh fun! Because I can't smell or feel yours I had to go try it out. Love this technique. Thank you for sharing.
Hello dear Gayle happy Friday🌸 hugs Lina.
I remember my daughter doing something similar in school with crayon shavings 🤔. Very cool, thanks for sharing 😊
I also have some wax chips that I've had for years. Need to try this. :)

Isn't that fun Gayle!!!! I find the thinner the paper the more translucent it will be. I wonder what it would look like on Tim Holtz tissue paper?

FUN VIDEO-TFS-HUGS/BLESSINGS

I experiment with glues in an upcoming video and Ceri mentions below that you can write on the pages. 🙂❤️
I liked this a lot. Could you please keep us posted about how it wears. Does the wax crack when you fold it? Does it ever remedy in very hot weather. Please keep us posted. 😀

Your cousin is Jessica? Awesome! I consider her one of my junk journal pals for sure! ❤️

Gayle, thanks for sharing! What type of adhesive do you think will work with this?
I experiment with different glues in an upcoming video…don’t want to ruin the surprise. 😁❤️
Good morning Gayle 💜
Morning Denise! ❤️
Very interesting !
Good Morning Gayle. 💖💖
Morning Edie! ❤️
Ooh la la. That looks like luscious good fun, gotta get me some of that.

Could try a cheese grater for the bees wax...might go quicker. I had seen the other 2 gals videos already and enjoyed yours too.
Hugs.
Yes, it does leak down, so my envelope turned out really cool. 😁❤️
I bet a cheese grater would be a great way to shave down chunks of wax. Used wax melts that have lost their smell would work too. Cool 😎. Gonna have to try this. Hugs 🤗 DarvaDee
That's so neat💕

Gayle wax is wonderfull, but use napkins and tissue paper to envelopes, book paper.
I cover and envelope with a napking in pieces and it was like a purse.!!
what about on a collaged page? would it seal all of the edges? great video, time for me to clean off my workspace and collect up my goodies
Great idea, Bonnie! ❤️
I’m wondering if an old cheese grater would work on the brick of bees wax. Think it might.
So interesting! TFS🤗
I was thinking you might get a more even effact with shaved wax. Like shaving on a cheese grater. I don't think the flatter shaved wax would escape off the edges like the beads tend to do.
This is very cool-thanks for sharing. What kind of glue do you think will work with this? 😎
Not sure! 😂. I’m going to sew the covers I have in mind, but we will have to experiment with glues. 👍❤️
I’m anxious to see how you use these.
Video on that coming next Tuesday. 👍❤️
What if you were to scrunch it after you wax it - it would probably crack - & then maybe use ink to run in the cracks???
Liked this but wonder if you made it look splotchy like a candle dripped wax on a page in a book.
