  • Gene Tierney was one of the 'Golden Hollywood' eras most beautiful actresses. Some of her films include : Leave Her To Heaven (1945), Heaven Can Wait (1943), The Razor's Edge (1946), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Whirlpool (1949, Night and the City (1950), The Mating Season (1950), and The Left Hand of God (1955). It is unfortunate that she had to endure much hardship in her life. She gave birth to a daughter who was deaf and mentally disabled, the result of a fan breaking a rubella quarantine. She was also plagued by her own mental illness for years which made her career almost impossible to manage. The music for the song "Laura" was composed by David Raskin for the 1944 movie "Laura" starring Gene Tierney. The lyrics were later written by Johnny Mercer after the film had made the tune popular. This song has become a major jazz standard with over 400 existing recordings. This version by Chet Baker also featured Bruce Thomas on piano, Jacques Pelzer on soprano saxo, Gianni Basso on tenor saxo and Giancarlo Pillot on drums and appeared on the 1977 studio album “The Incredible Chet Baker Plays and Sings”.
