You guys are so different from most of other RUclipsrs, I mean in a good way:there are no "DIY", "morning/night routine", "spring/winter/holiday haul", "what I got for Christmas", "Fitness routine" and all these kinds of videos, uhh... I found your channel a few days ago and I loved it straight away and then I wondered why. Then I found the answer:BECAUSE YOU DON'T DO THOSE KINDS OF VIDEOS THAT I listed above and that every other RUclipsr does! They are just getting boring. your videos are SIMPLE, creative and hilarious. Thanks for that! Love y'all!
i don't think those video you said are not well-executed by other youtubers, i know that if damon and jo do it too it will be more entertaining, natural and realistic. i love to see those kind of videos from damon and jo too!
i'm currently a 17 year old senior in high school and I applied to sooOo many jobs throughout my summer and also went to a few interviews but I never got hired so when I went back to school, I started selling brownies at my school on the low and I saved enough money to go to thailand by myself. I'm going in like 3 weeks and I'm soo excited but I'm still trying to save as much money as I can to spend over there etc. Anyway, as soon as I get back from thailand, I am planning on applying to more jobs and hopefully I do get hired because so many more countries and amazing things await. Thank you for your advice and good luck on your travels
I just got hired at a new job to save up for my college move to Europe next year and I literally can't feel my legs after my first day of working a 12 hr shift. I watch this video every day before work to remind myself why I'm putting myself through the struggle & y'all hella help me get through it. love y'all to pieces 🙏🏻 #euro2017
GUYS! I live in Chile (South America) and I learned to speak english when I was about 15. That is not common at all here, so I started getting interested in languages and travelling. I am 18 now and already travelled to Argentina, Brazil and Europe on my own because I saved literally EVERY SINGLE PENNY that I earned. I live with my parents so I'm absolutely taking advantage of that. Now I am working as a TOUR GUIDE which I am really excited about, I've been working for two months now , I get to manage when I want to work, morning or afternoon, and the days that I am not available. Also, I get a base payment per shift and a percentage of the tips that people give me. It's awesome because I am learning so much about different cultures! So, as Jo said, if you know another language, there will be options!
I'm gonna be a flight attendant lol. So I literally get to travel for my job, and if I wanna travel I get free or discounted flights! And even tho yes I will have to work and sometimes I'm only going to be at the place for only a few hours, sometimes I'll have to stay overnight and get to explore the place I'm at :) I'm so excited! I'm not sure if what I've written makes sense but it's a long story so I didn't know how to sum it up lol.
Being a traveler comes with challenges. Employers don't like people that travel. They will not hire u if you're just gonna be there until you get your travel money. They don't want you because you are not going to be a work slave for them. They don't care about you. All they care about is that you work like a dog and make them rich. Even if I don't travel I can never spend more than a year in one job. I sell jewelry online but I still seek out jobs to get money for travel because when I travel I like to go shopping so having extra money for my trip is always nice.
Damon and Jo, oh my god everything about you is perfect. You two articulate and teach the best there is to learn about travel, language and life. It's inspiring. I also love to travel and speak new languages and let's be honest, to learn through the traumatic experience of embarrassing myself as a foreigner. It's rare to find other young Americans who feel the same. You two are the best. xoxo g
i am an ER nurse, eventually i want to become a traveling nurse -- 12 week assignments at different locations in the nation with housing included.....can't wait for this adventure to start!! if your ever in chicago, would love to meet you guys!
Do your shopping one day later each week so over time you save several weeks worth on food. Note: This only works if you don't buy extra food to compensate the extra day. Get creative and stretch the food you do buy. Plant herbs, spring onions because these are ridiculously expensive to buy by the bunch. Even cut up old unusable tomatoes into slices and water into your garden. It works to grow new plants!
Great work! Planting our own food here in QLD, Australia too! Trying to do it on the cheap and organically. Replanting food scraps has worked wonders for new crops so far. 8 new tomato plants in the last fortnight!
i'm thinking of working as a flight attendant for a year or bit more after graduating college "travel gap year" :P , still 3 more years to go but i'm prepping myself for this position.
DamonAndJo hey guys! love your channel. I'm currently studying french and I really want to major in French, but I'm afraid there will be no job oppurtunities for it. What do you guys recommend, and what job opportunities could I pursue? Thanks guys!
I work in a granite company in the export department. As soon as I started watching your videos, I started saving money. I don't know were I'm going, when I'm going, but I know I'm going! Thank you for doing all this amazing things and inspiring me!
I found this channel this evening and I wanna say this is literally the only channel I turned notifications on fr. Thank you both for bringing that much light to my day :)
I miss your old advice videos like this so much you guys :'( youre both so insightful and have such great outlooks on life, id love to see more of that - in addition to your reg travel vlogs. This is brilliant. My fave video of yours was the first one I watched, study abroad tips in Paris. I think its refreshing to see anyone on youtube be this real and redeemable. You two are gift!
In my early 20s I worked as a game tester, which isn't something you can just do anywhere, but in the Bay Area there are a lot of game developers like Sega, Sony, and EA. They usually hire on contract (90 days) and the good news is they hire in huge blocks, so if you at least land an interview, it's a near guarantee that they'll hire you. You're basically a peon and your job isn't secure but even if they let you go, if you were let go on good terms (and filed for UI) they sometimes call back in six months to ask you to work again. Probably 80% of these contract testers get laid off when the time comes around for contract renewal so you'll never be a permanent employee. This actually works out amazing for travelers because it's really hard to travel spontaneously when you work full time 365 days/yr. Testing jobs are ALWAYS full-time because they have deadlines and stuff and the pay is decent ($15-17/hr)
You 2 are the absolute cutest ever! I just found your Chanel Bc of jo being shot and I already LOVE YOU BOTH!!!.... you both just made me feel so much better about my husband and My decision to sell our home of 10 years and go back to renting so we could eliminate the up keep/landscaping bills and put that money into our children being able to have a beach house for the summer and take snowboard/skiing trips every month in the winter..... just when I was starting to think about if we did the right thing due to being in a room full of people who act like owning your home and not renting some how makes your social status higher in our Community you can't help but to start to feel a lil insecure about your decisions but watching this video has made me realize that our decision to get out of another 20 year commitment was the right decision my children will have the greatest memories not just in a home but around the world and I couldn't ask for anything more and you can make a house a home regardless of if you rent or own it's up to you to make it home and that's what we have done in our rental property!!!! God bless you both and safe travels!!!!
Get a PRN or "as needed" job. I work at a hospital PRN. Basically, I can pick up hours if I want them and don't if I don't want to. It's the perfect setup for a traveler.
Erika Drummond I know it's been a year but I was looking up PRN jobs at the hospitals near me and they all seem to be on call positions. How do you manage that?
How much money (dollars) did you guys spent around Europe? Including travel expenses, food, and a bed to sleep in? I'm planning a trip this summer and need all the tips I need! I know that I can watch all your past videos but hell with it. To be quite honest you guys made me want to travel, And I really can't wait to experience to be lost and find some amazing places. Thank you for this great experience! Can't wait for new content! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
+Alex Divina You really should google the Backpacker Index. It's a site that compiles travel budgets for cities all around the world and shows you what cities are the most expensive and least expensive. It even gives you a breakdown of the day's expenditures, including a low-cost hostel rate, budget meals, transportation, and a moderate "entertainment budget" which basically means cheap beer.
this video was the most inspiring for me out of anything you've done! thank you! shows how there actually is no magic and traveling is open for anybody!
Your guys' assessment regarding mortgages is a little off. It's not a commitment until you "die". You can sell your house if you so choose. Yes, it's a long-term commitment, but I am looking forward to buying a house and having a mortgage so that I never have to rent again. Renting is throwing your money away. Paying a mortgage is gaining equity. You actually have something to show for all that money you pay each month. I am a firm believer in homebuying. I'm looking forward to paying my mortgage AND traveling the world.
I can speak English Portuguese, a bit of French and polish. I want to be a tour guide, i absolutely love nature and love travelling 💕 I'm on my last year in school so i can finally get a proper job, go to college and travel! 😍🙌
I don't know if it matters to you guys but I just saw some of your videos and I really want to travel and be a freelance photographer. These are actually great points/tips.
literally Jo's life is everything I'm aiming for. I'm currently a sophomore in high school and taking marketing/entrepreneurship classes and I want to work in a travel agency (maybe one day own one) and travel everywhere
i love your guys' relationship and your sassiness and its so lovely and nice to watch at seven in the morning; although, this is just the second video i've watched, so i'm not sure if you're just roommates, or more than that, but i love how clever you two are.
people with homes can get roommates and still travel. Airbnb is killer money in austin texas for my friends. Work the job don't let it work you. Realtor/youtuber/ blogger.
I work in a supermarket and TWO nurseries all week with only a Sunday off. I have no idea where I want to go with my life, what I want to do until I die. But I know I want to travel. Hoping to become an au pair in Paris in September! It's a start.
My boyfriend and I bought a house it was a fixer upper but still livable you know? It's adorable and super cheap. We now save like $500 (between the both of us) on our monthly expenses and will have it paid off in a couple years because we pay higher than the lowest payment. So I know buying a house isn't for everyone but it also doesn't have to be a "death sentence" like is said in the video! :) Just thought I'd share my point of view. I love y'all's videos!
kind of random, but if you're from the US, which state are you from? Finding an affordable home has been a struggle for my boyfriend and I in New Jersey :(
I got a job last school year at a bagel shop and saved up enough money to go to the Dominican Republic over the summer! Now I’m working at Dairy Queen and will hopefully work at the zoo this summer as a camp counselor and begin to save up to either go back to the Dominican or go to Spain or Japan... or really anywhere. I want to go everywhere. I love your channel and I’m feeling inspired lol!
I only have one job at the moment but as someone who has had 3 in the past - I respect your hustle! I put money away monthly into an account and wait for it to reach a desried amount ie 1000 and then take that money and spend it on a trip. Then I wait to save the money back up so I can go on my next trip, it takes about 3-6 months :) Also planning your meals in advance and buying only what you need reduces waste and has cut my weekly shopping from 30 to 13. Enjoy your travels, your videos are amazing!!
Personal tip: if you live in a big city close to a sports stadium that's a good little dob right there. There's a shit ton of jobs at a sports stadium that one can do and it's seasonal! Depending on which sport depends on your dead season (obvi) Baseball: Oct-Mar Football: Jan-Aug, Hockey: May/June-Sept, Basketball: May-Sept. Some places offer pto, and if you save it for the off season you are gucci, just be sure to save money as you work that way you can enjoy the dead season
First off, love you guys! You have definitely found the wander in me that I tried to buried. Going to Denver on December 8th (WOOO!) Second I live in MI and I found a coworking space near me. Can you elaborate more on what you do there Jo? And why it's a good idea to have a job there?
Great info guys! im currently looking for a part time job while going to uni from monday till saturdat and is SO hard... but im searching like crazy haha so glad your channel is growing!!!
I feel like I can relate to you guys so much. I have a job that has roll over vacation time (so ideally I could add it all up and take like a month off to travel ,but fo real who has time for that I just save it up for a week than bounce!) and is flexible with scheduling only because my boss is cool as shit ! She travels and totally understands the work/life balance. I actually just completed a cross country road trip this past summer ! I can only travel 2 big trips twice a year.. which sucks because I want moreeeee. Ideally I would like to blog as a career and on the side work as a paramedic. which is what I'm working towards now ! keep up the awesome vids, I love watching you guys. you make my day ! :)
I luckily have two jobs with great bosses that allow me to go where I want as long as I communicate. I also do freelance work as a creative director so I accept gigs that fit with my schedule. The catering tip is goldddd guys.
If anyone considered going to college vs. traveling. The best way is to choose a major related to traveling. There are so many majors related to traveling. Just research and if you are afraid, just force yourself to let go of all fears and all worries..and do it! In a long run, you will adapt to the situation..you will be glad you did it! When I came back to the U.S...I had to work cause ya girl broke, but I just went to a random U.S state..and told the manager..I am going to only work for one month (it is called a seasonal hire). Do not be picky about the job..as long, the job has money coming through. I am good to go :)
I've been a freelance artist teaching photoshop for years, but completely full time in only the past year and chillllee it is harrrrdd because I'm in the house working all the time, but you guys inspire me to get the hell out and just go somewhere.
do market research groups! You can search online for a company in your area. You can be selected randomly to come in and give your opinion about a product or idea for money. I live in London and its very common, you can earn up to £50 for just an hour. I promise I'm not scamming you an example is 'focus force'. Good luck!
I have tried to save money in the past, like Damon suggested and is amazing and sad how DAMN FAST it goes away from your hands!!... I'm going to try it again this year thou, just to see how much I can keep on my own, but I'm going to have to hide it reaaaaallly well this time to not even remember it myself lol
You guys inspire me! I also work odd jobs (one of them is catering) and I love to travel as much as I can while learning new languages. I recently spent 2 months in Brazil and I continue to learn Portuguese(WHICH I LOVE). The way I've been able to get the most out of my travels is by staying with people that I have met on an application called Hellotalk. It's a language learning app that pairs language learners from different countries and cultures, I have met amazing people on here and continue to do so, who have opened their homes to me and I've done the same in return. The relationships I have built on there have allowed me to travel to different places without worrying about somewhere to stay and being able to fully immerse myself in a new culture! P.s I will be in NY for Santacon this December and it would be cool to hang out with you guys!!!! Beijos
Hi! I just found this channel and I'm hooked with you guys! I absolutely love your videos and how informative and cheerful they are. Replying to the question you made at the end of the video, I'm currently in my senior year of Film School and even though acting is my passion my dream job would be to make money for making documentaries about traveling, this is probably why I'm so in love with your channel, hahah. One question for you now, when did you two decide to take the first step into this journey, and what was the first country you visited? Wish you guys the best!
I know being in the City of Chicago grub hub delivery is big and the tips and pay are good. That helped me save for my flight lessons and if you have a bike deliver with that so you wont have to use your tip money on gas
I am on DamonandJo Marathon and I'm loving it!! I lived in NYC all of my life and have been trying to start modeling and acting. Where can I go to try and be an extra? Is there a website or place I can sign up?
Vocês tem a vida dos sonhos gente, estou acabando o HS agora e não sei mesmo o que fazer, mas anyways ces são uma inspiração pra mim. Conheci o canal a poucos dias e xonei
hey guys, im from NS, Canada (boonies) and im in university studying russian language so i can get my undergrad and translate/interpret remotely (ideally?). you guys are great, and i wish you luck in everything you do/anywhere you go! xx
Hi, I was wondering, I'm from france, is it difficult to be a french teacher in the US ? I mean, does it pay well ? Did you do studies to be a french teacher ? Thanks by advance ! I'm kind of planning to do this and I'm a little scared
Loving you guys. I work at Allstate. As of right now, planning on going back to college this fall because I don't make enough. I want a career a picked out rather than something I fell into because I hate my desk job looking at a computer all day. I'm on the Christian guide to savings and debt free, the Dave Ramsey financial peace university. It's really working.
I really like watching your videos and to see how you manage to travel and get out there. I watch your videos to help me not travel how I normally travel which is stand by (I'm a flight attendant). I want to be able to go to some places and not have to worry about getting stuck. I don't know but maybe you guys might want to try becoming flight attendants... You have your own schedule, work as much or as little as you want, have health care, 401k (in some airlines), and you TRAVEL for cheap or free, fly 1st class (if their is room) and not have to pay for the upgrade. Plus you can still get jobs in your major and work part time just for the benefits like most other flight attendants do. Just a suggestion.
I've been an english teacher in China and Mexico and I'm only 20! Look up International Language Programs, that's what I did. And other good options for flexible jobs that pay well and allow you to travel: be a substitute teacher (depending on the school district, they might only require a semester of college), temp agencies, online english teaching/tutoring... I'm in college because for my dream career I need a degree but OBVIOUSLY I'm not gonna stop traveling so while I'm still in school that's how I afford it, I went to Iceland last year and I'm planning my next trip now. Also, if you speak a second language well, you can be an interpreter or translator! That's what I'm looking into to make more money while I'm in school, if you do it in the medical or legal field you need a certification but it's relatively quick and affordable (compared to college). Believe you me, when I get certified I'm taking full advantage of that to travel as MUCH as possible.
did anyone notice that after they talked about mortgage, Jo went on a trip with deep thoughts, so intense, look at her face! who knows what that subject brought to her mind!! =)
Hey Damon and Jo! I just recently started watching your channel and I really like it! Thank you for teaching me all things of travel! For starters, I am still in high school and still trying to decide on what I want to be/my dream job, but I would have to say, it might just be a flight attendant because I really, really, really love to travel! As of now, I work at a fast food joint to create extra money for me. I have a question. I speak English, and Jo, you said that if someone speaks English it's easier to get a job abroad correct? As a English teacher, au pair, etc. wouldn't I have to know the national language of that country in order to teach there or be a nanny or how exactly does that work? Also, one last thing, if that's okay. I recently got an offer to attend a language school in France this summer. I would really like to go for 1-2 weeks at least, but my mom seems hostile towards the idea. I'm not sure if it's the money (the money depends on the amount of time I spend there, and which location in France I pick) or because I have a little sibling at home, or what, but do you have any suggestions for helping me convince her to let me go? Thanks for everything!!!
CakeManiaAddict We're no longer in college! I (Damon) studied languages and media, but dropped out after two years, and Jo got her degree in International Business!
great video! Im 18 and I really just want to travel and learn languages. After seeing all your videos it sort of cemented my decision not to return to university this fall and to go to Germany to be an Au pair (since I've been learning German for a year and a half) and see where life takes me after that. Im just gonna work all summer and save up and maybe take a trip somewhere before germany. Thanks for all the tips and everything!
Thank you for sharing this, it's super helpful! I know this gets personal, but what do you do about things like health insurance? When I lived in the city I was so thrilled to find so many temporary, flexible jobs. I worked alongside caterers as a brand ambassador for a luxury brand and catering definitely seems like a great job!
Hi guys! I love your channel and can totally relate (L'auberge Espagnole is my favorite film!) Long story short, I am leaving my corporate American job to study abroad for a year in Paris for my MBA (English program.) I have six months till I leave and I speak very little French. Do you recommend a classroom environment to learn prior or Rosetta Stone?
Amanda Gavin That's MY favorite movie too!!!! We recommend many things! Put your Facebook and phone in French, download Duolingo or Memrise, and sign up for a class!
Amanda Gavin PS: Congrats on leaving corporate America for the time being. We love stories like yours! You'll see so much of a difference in the way people live abroad.
+Thank you so much Damon&Jo you guys have no idea how much you help me, I am dating a Cariocan women who lives in Brazil, Rio de Janerio, Nova Iguacu, while I am currently in America, and your videos are getting me closer to her daily. #I.know.this.video.is.kind.of.old but.it.is.brilient. Brigado Muito!

That's a good idea. Thanks
Did u ever make it to Europe?
Omg I relate so much to this comment

I'm still in school and I'm applying for study abroad and traveling to Costa Rica next year! So excited!
Danielle Potter you go girl!
My husband and I teach English abroad. Right now we are in Taiwan. It's a great way to travel and earn income. We love it!
You guys are always such fun. Thanks for revealing your income sources. Very interesting.

What did you guys study in college?
I think Damon was a French major but I don't know about jo
Thanks! *****
I think I got fired... 😂😂
I work in a granite company in the export department.
As soon as I started watching your videos, I started saving money. I don't know were I'm going, when I'm going, but I know I'm going!
Thank you for doing all this amazing things and inspiring me!
I mainly watch these videos for the french, and Jo
Sammmme mate
I found this channel this evening and I wanna say this is literally the only channel I turned notifications on fr. Thank you both for bringing that much light to my day :)

It even gives you a breakdown of the day's expenditures, including a low-cost hostel rate, budget meals, transportation, and a moderate "entertainment budget" which basically means cheap beer.
this video was the most inspiring for me out of anything you've done! thank you! shows how there actually is no magic and traveling is open for anybody!
dem shades tho!! haha i love this :)
BRINGIN' SEXY BACK
You guys are so cute and entertaining.
y'all still work those jobs?
please do more videos like these, they're actually really helpful/insightful :)
I love to listen and watch all your videos bc that helps me to improve my english, french and portuguese, love u guys
saludos de Colombia!
+fixieride12 These tips can be used for anyone trying to be an artist, actor, writer, or basically anything freelance!
literally Jo's life is everything I'm aiming for.
Realtor/youtuber/ blogger.
jo is sooo beatiful !!! im stunned c:
I know right!?
I work in a supermarket and TWO nurseries all week with only a Sunday off. I have no idea where I want to go with my life, what I want to do until I die. But I know I want to travel. Hoping to become an au pair in Paris in September! It's a start.
Kizzmita GO GO GO! You will have the time of your life!
Finding an affordable home has been a struggle for my boyfriend and I in New Jersey :(
I'm from Florida :)
I love the way you guys upload lots of short videos.Keep going that way, you doing great.Love u both
This video is a part of our DAILY LA vlog series! Glad you like em.
im a babysitter and my dream job is to work at buzz feed by the time I'm 26/27

+sade watkins I love Buzz Feed! I never thought about working for them! Great idea :)
So... How's that going?
Foxtrot worrrd, I wanna know, too?
please make a video on how to save up for bigger travels that would be really cool! Please!!
Currently going through trying to find a job in a new place that allows more freedom. This was so encouraging. Love you guys! ❤️ Updated video?
Orange is the new black? WHAT EPISODE I'LL FIND YOU
Personal tip: if you live in a big city close to a sports stadium that's a good little dob right there.
I've almost finished watching all of your videos... I love your work guys!
currently work at a daycare and i'm thinking about being an au pair (in france) in the second half of summer!
First off, love you guys! You have definitely found the wander in me that I tried to buried. Going to Denver on December 8th (WOOO!) Second I live in MI and I found a coworking space near me. Can you elaborate more on what you do there Jo? And why it's a good idea to have a job there?
+Jerrie Young Hey girl! I used to work there as a receptionist, super chill work! Thanks for watching :)
Great info guys! im currently looking for a part time job while going to uni from monday till saturdat and is SO hard... but im searching like crazy haha
so glad your channel is growing!!!
You gotta condense those classes to a few days, so you can work the other days! Thanks for the compliment though! :D
this got me so inspired to start working little jobs like dog walking babysitting and cleaning thank you
This video honestly makes me so happy :) You guys just made it fun with all the info too! You totally earned a new subbie!
I'm an engineering technician. I'm about to quit my job and travel for at least a year though. lol
Can you share how you survive living in New York and still manage to travel?
Beijos
So I am wondering how are you guys able to manage paying college debt and travel?
So freaking in love with your personalities!♥
So excellent! Where to next on your bucket list?
Guys you are amazing HAHAHA why did I discovered you only now? Cheers and all the best!
You guys put a smile on my face! I just found you! My new friends! Hey, I would love to see what kind of packs you suggest and use on your travels...
Jo gives me so much LIFE!!!
How do you balance student loans?
I know being in the City of Chicago grub hub delivery is big and the tips and pay are good. That helped me save for my flight lessons and if you have a bike deliver with that so you wont have to use your tip money on gas
Love this! ❤️ Just watched it again... Truth!
Cant wait for them to produce like a film, a book, etc.
Conheci o canal a poucos dias e xonei
hey guys, im from NS, Canada (boonies) and im in university studying russian language so i can get my undergrad and translate/interpret remotely (ideally?). you guys are great, and i wish you luck in everything you do/anywhere you go! xx
I became an au pair two years ago and now that I am going back to Brazil, I got my certificate to teach abroad. (TEFL and about to start CELTA) :D
You're having the time of your life. Just be safe.
Google= Gugou
omg I found my two new favorite people on this planet!
Ive just found you guys and IM SO GLAD i did!
did anyone notice that after they talked about mortgage, Jo went on a trip with deep thoughts, so intense, look at her face! who knows what that subject brought to her mind!!
Thanks for everything!!!
did you ever considered working for airline as flight attendant ?
(fly free and great pay)
Wait so are you guys currently in school or how does that work? Thanks, love your videos!
I love your personalities and videos ! They make my day ! 😁🖤
Did you guys have to pay off student loans?
