Nitrogen Fixers in a New Food Forest. Building the Understory

I'm starting to transform a rocky forest knoll (an oak knob?) into a food forest.
Adding plants that serve many purposes: adding nitrogen fixers and pollinators and a living mulch, and in permaculture terms also adding to the root layer and herbaceous layer.
