When my youngest daughter gets married in the fall I wish Bobby Bare could do this song at her reception in California. She was born in Baton Rouge and we're serving Cajun food so this would be the perfect song. We will have to make do with a DJ playing it.
I have a picture that I need to be able to lay my hands on of myself with Bobby Bare at my Uncle’s farm in Quebec. I would’ve been 10 or 11 years old and I’m not going to say how long ago that was lol. He was pretty humble for such a famous fellow. 🎸🎶
Babby Bare is such a great and unique talent as he writes and sings his own songs and they are wonderful. I was lucky enough to see his show at a dancehouse/bar in Pismo Beach, CA. He is so easy going and a real cool guy. I made a pest of myself by to keep asking him to sing Marie Laveau and he did play it, which I really enjoyed and he was very nice. I hope you are doing well Bobbie!!!
... we also loveD it, as well. Past participal: Will love it. Am loving it. Have loved it. Future, current and past participle... Thanks for the grammatical giggle. Hope you're not home-schooling anyone above the kindergarten level, lol!
Love this dude..I remember a better version where he's smiling and giggling all the way through it.. I can't find it though.. he's in front of some gold curtains in it
He said, "Marie Laveau, you lovely witch Gimme a little charm that'll make me rich Gimme a million dollars and I tell you what I'll do This very night, I'm gonna marry you" Then It'll be (uhh), another man done gone So Marie done some magic, shook a little sand Made a million dollars and she put it in his hand Then she giggled and she wiggled, and she said, "Hey, Hey I'm gettin' ready for my weddin' day" But old handsome Jack said, "Goodbye Marie You're too damned ugly for a rich man like me" Marie started mumblin', her fangs started gnashin' Her body started tremblin', and her eyes started flashin' And she went... another man done gone So if you ever get down where the black trees grow And meet a voodoo lady named Marie Laveau If she ever asks you to make her your wife Man, you better stay with her for the rest of your life Or it'll be... another man done gone (Aah we'll see) (Another man done gone)
This is definitely Bobby's song. Love it❤ Live that little laugh he incorporates into some of his songs.

I hope the wedding went well and the groom was wise enough to show up! He'd better be doing her right still if he knows what's good for him!

Robinella and the CC String Band does an absolutely amazing cover of this song.
Great song Dr hook did a nice version on their first album
Real country
I remember him singing this on hee haw with his kids . wish I could find that video . his boys had a unique scream
That's the version I remember too- they did the perfect screams!
Featured on lead guitar, the late great Ronnie Montrose(yes, THAT Ronnie Montrose from the namesake band)....

Gimme a million dollars and I tell you what I'll do
This very night, I'm gonna marry you"
Then It'll be (uhh), another man done gone
So Marie done some magic, shook a little sand
Made a million dollars and she put it in his hand
Then she giggled and she wiggled, and she said, "Hey, Hey
I'm gettin' ready for my weddin' day"
But old handsome Jack said, "Goodbye Marie
You're too damned ugly for a rich man like me"
Marie started mumblin', her fangs started gnashin'
Her body started tremblin', and her eyes started flashin'
And she went... another man done gone
So if you ever get down where the black trees grow
And meet a voodoo lady named Marie Laveau
If she ever asks you to make her your wife
Man, you better stay with her for the rest of your life
Or it'll be... another man done gone
(Aah we'll see)
(Another man done gone)
I waited on him one time in Springfield Ohio at the Holiday Inn, he was a rude customer. This was about 3 years before this video.
That's odd, every Holiday Inn I ever stayed at had the most underwhelming staff.
Hot in the city
I remember this song today when my teacher said her name
Awesome!!!
Good grief this sounds like it would be a Supertramp song at the very begining!
Or a little bit Steely Dan
Bobby Bare kept a Low profile
😮
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat
😍😍🍋
Hey ya'll just so you know there is a true marie down in new Orleans, she was a voodoo priestess
Donna lane
