Fullerton, California --- Fullerton Police Department released body camera, drone and surveillance camera footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday March 26, 2024 at a Fargo bank during a bank robbery.
Police said, on Tuesday March 26, 2024 at approximately 5:09 p.m., the Fullerton Police Department dispatch Center received a 911 call from an employee at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 141 West Bastanchury Road.
The employee explained that a man later identified as 57 years old Scott Thompson
was in the bank claiming to have a bomb and demanding money.
At the time, the bank was open and there were employees and a customer inside the business.
The first officer arrived at the bank within 2 minutes of the call being dispatched and began coordinating the response of additional personnel and resources.
Additional officers arrived and established a containment perimeter around the bank.
An officer was able to make contact with an employee in the bank via telephone.
That employee was able to provide updates regarding Thompson's actions and explained Thompson was sitting at a desk and they were going to give him the money he demanded.
About 10 minutes into the incident the employee told the officer the bank personnel would be
placing $58,000 in a box with DPS written on it and Thompson would be walking out of the bank shortly after.
Thompson exited the bank holding a white box and began walking away from the bank
doors, officers immediately gave him commands to put his hands up and to stop.
Thompson failed to follow the instructions he was given and instead turned around and started walking back towards the bank doors. Police said, fearing Thompson may be re-entering the bank
with an explosive device and as he neared the bank doors an officer involved shooting occurred.
Immediately after the officer involved shooting, officers began to approach Thompson to take him into custody and render Medical Aid, however because Thompson indicated he had an explosive device they secured the area and requested the assistance of the Orange County bomb squad.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department Hazardous Devices Section is made up of 18 members and averages 600 to 800 requests for service yearly, which include rendering safe 50 to 80 improvised explosive devices each year.
The Orange County bomb squad responded and used a tactical robot to examine the device and was determined to be an item constructed to resemble an actual explosive device, referred to as a facsimile device also known as a Fax.
Thompson was pronounced deceased at the scene once it was rendered safe by the Orange County bomb squad.
Police said that Scott Thompson had an extensive criminal history and was on federal probation for armed bank robbery at the time of this incident. Furthermore, he had prior federal convictions for armed bank robbery and escape. And a state conviction for robbery.

Big respect to the 911 Dispatcher as well. Caring, polite and no silly questions (what colour bomb does he have? How long are the wires? Is the detonator Chinese or US made)

She didn't really believe that the guy had a real bomb
I used to work as an EMT, a gas station in town furthest from the police station got hit about twice a month. The employees would just call into dispatch, "Hey just calling because we are getting robbed again." Dispatcher knows their number by heart.

Bank robber : "I'm just going to head back in, They won't shoot me"
Okay, that lady who called 911 was as cool as the other side of the pillow!! THAT is how you make a 911 call, if possible. I know people handle stress differently (I would have snapped if the 911 operator kept asking, over and over, “Ma’am can you hear me?” “Ma’am, Can you hear me?” when she new damned well the caller had the police on the other phone. The guy went there to find out, and he did..
Why
How many violent convictions does it take to lock up someone for life or end their life?

Judges must be held accountable... look at that guy with such an extensive criminal history... like what the hell is he doing roaming around freely.
Those cops got there fast with enough man power and equipment to take care of business. I wish all departments were that professional, A+!
The Orange County bomb squad gets 600-800 requests a year? That's two a day. Wow, thats more than some military patrols would see in active duty.

Even the dispatcher had to verify the amount lol.
"What does he look like?"
"formal military"
no wonder 911 operators are such short tempered
Former military, then again the lady was still giving a statement of what he said.
On that note anyone saying they are Ex-military during a crime is pretty much lying. My ass would have said what unit, where's that at, what's your MOS, what rank were you? Etc. just to call him out.
One thing that happens a lot on these 911 calls is the person calling 911 is calling from their cellphone so there's a delay on the cellphone end and the operator is being heard and recorded in real-time, so by the time the person calling says something the operator is already asking another question. So what they're saying to each other starts getting crossed. If how I explained it makes sense.
Who else knew from the beginning that it wasn’t gonna be a real 💣?
Everyone who read the title on the thumbnail.
