This has me seriously eyeing cosplay foam as a build material to mess about with. Trying to do all that texturing of the foam by hand would take me ages. Really like the modularity of the project, really allows for a huge range of functionality. All the little detail work is super nice and the touch of red for the windows does wonders to break up the grey monotony of the structure. Little touch to give the eye something to latch onto. Great job!
That buid looks H U G E ! The fact it being modular makes it even more cooler! Nice job! Also congrats on finding new love in your life! I hope you and Lucille have a lot of happy years ahead of you!
From the WIPs you shared, I wasn't sure how this would come out. But W😮W it's great! Good job resisting the urge to blackline every single crevice. I would have spent months just doing that.
A great project with lots of details! Well done on the entire construction. Inspiring work and makes we want to start yet another project before I finish my current projects XD.
@@DarkMatterWorkshop Of course! Happy to say I've been enjoying what I've been watching and I'm going back through your older videos. Keep it up! Cant wait to see what's next!
Magnificent design & construction you & lady friend produced. Take care of her she really helped you out. In all seriousness, really impressive you total professional. Loved how it's actually several sets. Castle, tower, etcetera. 👍
Amazing work well done 👏 that laser cutter does such great detail and I love ur such a professional lol 😆 don't worry I have done the same just got carried away building and forgot to film 😀😄
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! THATS AWESOME!! And kinda funny as well as I'm making my own modular foam and cardboard castle build. It's my first and it's a tribute build, my take on Castle Greyskull...to figure scale.
If you like when it's done I'll send pictures. I know it's not for miniature tabletop, but I'm totally using everything I've learned from watching your videos and of others building everything from terrain, to textured roll up table terrain maps, foam bricking etc etc to make this monstrosity. I'd always wanted to make one like this and now I am. And I'm going whole Hog with it too. Now what I've gone and done was work within a dollar store and recycling kinda scratch build using all these tricks. The picture I'll send when finished will have all the details that made up the original design, only tweaked as if this were the Very First time MOTU were being made by say Peter Jackson with LOTR level of detail and realism with their 'Bigatures' and a similar tone from the original Conan the Barbarian. Instead of the Skull being essentially a magically shaped Stone parody of a skull, it IS an actual skull, of a Titan from a long near forgotten past. In death the Titan's skeletal remains were bound to the castle built around it, forever imprisoned to act as Guardian of the great Power it had sought to take for itself, now only to safe guard it and house it instead. The Titan's name was Greyskull. Of course this is a wild deviation from the Canon, but this is an Adult take on the story. A Proportionate and Within the Parameters of the MOTU story, all characters Present and accounted for, just Updated maturely in a way that unifies it and Progresses and Alters a Few character backstories, so far that's limited to Greyskull itself and how I'm handling Skeletor. And it's all for shits and giggles. What if MOTU had been done by say...Heavy Metal but Tempered by Peter Jackson with the Balls from Conan. Old and Creepy Haunted looking castle on the outside, but a Living Magic / Super Science interior that has all the trappings from the OG toy Playset. The Turret Laser Cannon, the Techno Flying Throne used to trigger the Rug Covered Trap Door that fell down to the slimy creepy crawly monster pit. Shit...that a Lot of work and its gonna take a long time to make it IF I go beyond Just the Front of the Castle as is. Using the cardboard boxes I'm building it with and upon it's prepared for future modular expansions I have in mind to build out the Rest of the Castle i see in my head. A Movie Quality thing that would Fit Right in with LOTR or Conan. Part of me has always wanted to make things for movies, spfx makeup, miniatures, costuming, props and creatures. This project is practice for me as I'm working towards making a Star Wars fan series. A live action but No Budget production that wouldn't look amiss if it were made around the same time as Battlestar Galactica or Buck Roger's and Doctor Who. Using homemade miniature sets using various Toys and Figures to help create Street scenes and the like for what will begin as a Police Procedural. When I'm taking a break from making Greyskull here, I'm working on making my costume, test building a few wall props made from plastic recycling and paint to help make the real world places I'm limited to filming in at least Passable with Wall Tiles made with Two Different detailed sides to randomly decorate a standard living space and make it again Passable for a Star Wars fan series. And its gonna be unabashedly self aware of this level of production value, but hopefully, if all goes well the story is what'll get ya and then it's all good from there as it's all passable. I'm 48, disabled, so I've a lot of time on my hands. And now I've the..stability to be able to do all of these things ive never really been able to dedicate any real time to beyond Casual artistic Expression. Yeah I know....Long Comment. But there's a reason for it. Your channel along with a handful of others in this particular community of which I have been truly inspired by, have been HUGE help in getting this thing made let alone started. I've said this to Black Magic Craft and I think to Wylocks Armory as well. I sent BMC progress pictures of all of it so far, even Greyskull so if you wanna sneak peek.... So...Thank You.
Seriously amazing application of technology combined with skill and artistry. Another technique to add additional texture is to heat the foam in small sections with a heat gun and press a lightly crumpled piece of tinfoil. Move in small areas across the foam and remember to wear a respirator in a well ventilated area. Keep in mind if you reheat an area you’ll lose most of the texture tinfoil texture you applied.
Damn, man- that's pretty impressive. And congratulations on your new toy; maybe she can engrave you the new storage area you'll need to keep up with all the new shit you'll be making. Always look forward to your uploads, and this was no exception. Still waiting on that case of Maredsous, though... (enjoy your weekend)
